  1. Somebody won one of the jackpots for over 400 million this week so it reset. I would guess that sales are down though.
  2. I voted to change buildings and statues but not the song. I’m actually not against it but think there needs to be a larger discussion had by the university community. Without that, people will just perceive this a the liberals taking things away and not do any soul searching. If the larger discussion is had and people want to keep the song then I’m fine with that too.
  3. Know one of the be more pacific owners through friends. They recently opened another in Houston, which turned out to be terrible timing. I’ll try to see if they are both closing or if they had to choose between the two.
  4. Agree. Not every piece of shit or mentally ill person is a Karen. A Karen wants to speak to the manager or call the cops. Maybe even let the HOA know that your trash can was out 7 minutes early.
  5. I only came here to see how many negs OP had. Haven’t read a word and I’m sure I missed nothing I couldn’t have got off OAN for myself.
  6. I’m not going to derail another thread with this so one post only. 46% of the tax revenue collected for AISD goes to other districts through recapture. As long as that happens, tax payers in Austin are proper fucked. AISD pays for about 1/3 of the recapture total for the entire state.
  7. It’s going to be expensive as a motherfucker. That’s the price we pay for not starting on this and major road projects 30 years ago. The available land will only go down and the price go up if we try to do this after another 2 million people move here. Transportation is the number one critical issue facing Austin over the next 10 years. I hope we get it right, and I include major road improvements in this as well. I grew up here and hate that my personal version of old Austin is gone. I loved the early 90s when I was a kid. But the reality is that we are a big city now and getting bigger by the day. The current Austin clusterfuck of the worst traffic for a city our size in the nation was created by people trying to hold onto the past. Time to start thinking about what Austin in 2040 will look like. For starters, it will have 4 million people in the area.
  8. My only problem with the statement is that he didn’t say 40%.
  9. Not sure that I qualify in any of these categories because I ditched the GOP in around 2013 because of how the Texas GOP conducted business. Obviously the national version of the party has done even worse, which didn’t seem possible back then. Im never going back and will oppose their agenda until I die. It’s hard to share a country with people that think it’s good to lock brown kids in cages, separated from their parents. Or think that you can wish away a pandemic. Or worship a man that stokes racial division and hatred while calling other countries shit holes. Or normalizes election fraud. I’m just going to stop because the list goes on and on. The point is that these people are going to think like this long after trump is gone. There is one (flawed) group that is able to keep them from having real power over the rest of us and that is the Democratic Party. Get on board or be complicit in the horror show.
  10. I worry about a version of the Bradley effect with polling. The true trumpers will gladly tell a pollster they support trump. But I’m not sure some republicans who will pull the R lever no matter what will admit it. I think people like my parents who don’t like trump but will vote for him because “zomg libruls want communism” would just tell a pollster that they are undecided.
  11. Talked to an investigator that deals with children as part of my job. Said he was wilco but bailed because of chody. “Won the lottery and bought himself a playground” was the quote.
  12. I’m guessing that people that never vote or vote infrequently are weighted less in quality polls. This year could see those people actually show up to vote against trump. Highly anecdotal but I have a couple of friends that never vote, don’t care about politics, and removed themselves from various group texts where politics are discussed. Both say they are 100% in on voting trump out. We will see...
  13. Seems like ring doorbell cameras would cut down on people actually answering the door.
  14. I'll take that as a nomination for Wendy. I personally think that is a solid choice. Close to Austin, has act blue, competitive district, and running against a douche. No rush in getting others in as we have a while but keep them coming.
  15. You can nominate for that as well. Just not much of a chance of flipping it.
  16. With everything going on and democrats feeling more motivated than I have ever seen before, I thought it would be a good time to bump this. Act blue has been setting fundraising records for democrats, and I want to make sure that candidates for the Texas House aren't left out. This is the best chance democrats have had to flip the house in decades, and in a redistricting year no less. I was hoping to get this started sooner but there are still primary run offs happening July 14th and I want to give everybody a fair chance. On July 15th I will start a new thread with a poll of nominated candidates from this thread. We select the candidate that we want to support as a group. We hit them with surly elite cash via act blue (preferred) or a similar site. I will update that thread with volunteer opportunities or chances to meet the candidate. We celebrate their victory and the ousting of the dotard. Please nominate democratic candidates below for the July 15th poll that are running for a Texas House seat in a district that is going to go either way. Closer to Austin for volunteering opportunities is preferred but not required. Act blue is preferred but not required. If the candidate still has a run-off to get through, please indicate that.
  17. Rush always wanted racial divisiveness. I’m sorry that he lived to see what he wanted all along. At least we will be able to rebuild without him.
  18. NYC government saying that 1 in 7 is from out of state like that’s a big impressive number. That means 6/7 is from your state and pissed. Also willing to bet that most of the out of state protesters are from far away lands such as....New Jersey.
  19. Correct. And even if that teacher wasn’t arrested, the district that fired or non-renewed the contract has to report it to the state for their database in Texas. Also, I’m a campus administrator. It’s not that hard to fire a teacher. It’s likely that they will be able to finish out the year assuming they are being fired for being ineffective and not abusive in some way. The files on some of these cops that keep their job amazes me.
  20. Yeah, tough to recruit new GOP voters with the nursing homes not allowing visitors. Meanwhile dotard is running the democratic voter driver with every tweet.
  21. I mean you already charged a police station and torched it. Probably weren’t planning on playing it safe today.
