  1. When I was at Westwood you could take all regular classes for your full four years, make a 100 on every assignment and not crack the top 10%. Too many kids making all As in the weighted AP classes.
  2. The AP thing depends a lot on the high school. I went to Westwood where it’s like an academic war zone. Extremely competitive.
  3. Not Travis county but this seems like the best place for this question. My wife successfully protested our property taxes in Wilco this year so she took a look at her parents house in a suburb of Houston. On their website you can drill down to individual features of the house and how they are valued for your taxes. The appraisal district added a pool to their features with an attached value of about 8k roughly 10 years ago. They have no pool and have never had one. They contacted the appraisal district who will take the pool off but not pay them anything back for the previous years stating that it’s up to you to check. Although this was sloppy by the appraisal district, I agree that there is probably no recourse at this point. Other people want me to look more into it. I was told there would be no math but it seems like it’s about $1,800 we are talking about over the 10 year period, which sucks but is nowhere near lawyer time. What says surly?
  4. I was on the list. Took about 2 mins to fill out the required info for the $125.
  5. It’s a large school with a few good programs with engineering being top 20. Much of the rest is a diploma mill that just makes money for the school. I haven’t seen the latest rankings but I hear meat judging is top 3.
  6. The growth of Texas with UT staying the same size has really helped a lot of schools. Txst is a vastly different school than I showed up to in the fall of 2003. The quality of student, degree offerings, and overall attitude towards the school from students is so much better. With more money coming in, the campus has been renovated and looks good. I’m guessing it is the same of a lot of schools that are in a similar position such as UTSA, UH, UNT, etc. Aggy is kind of the wild card in the mix. When I was graduating HS, they were determined to stay around the 45k mark on students and it was pretty difficult to be accepted. Later the attitude changed and they have become huge. If aggy wants to stay around their same size, Texas will continue to grow and the other schools will get some pretty good students coming their way. If aggy wants to grow more, get ready to live in a sea of maroon.
  7. I used to teach at a school where there was a family that scammed the school for free lunches for 5 kids. Quick math shows it was about $2,200 a year but that wasn’t my real problem with it. I felt bad for those kids going their entire school career eating a cheese sandwich everyday. I also felt bad for the cafeteria manager who got bitched at all the time for not being a good enough bill collector from her bosses. This was a contracted out company so they had a bottom line to meet. Everybody suffered except for the parent causing the mess.
  8. If a bunch of old, uneducated, white people in Wisconsin give us trump for another four years, I’m going scorched earth.
  9. Hell, Texas was 9%. Ohio is a red state at this point and I would worry about the others first, especially the ones trending more blue.
  10. The swing state mentioned in that article by The Hill is Ohio. The Dems absolutely DO NOT need Ohio in order to win. Or Florida for that matter. Win Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Trump can start packing his boxes.
  11. Prediction: in a month warren will be in first place.
  12. This thread should be required reading for any guy wanting to get married regardless of whether or not he is in the military.
  13. I heard from a chick that was married to a military dude that they will tell you one date that you are coming back but always delay it a couple of days. Cuts way down on the surprises to have that buffer. She was crazy and divorced the guy when he was overseas. Left the house empty. Took the light fixtures and every appliance.
  14. I don’t know that I am a conspiracy nut on any of the typical topics, but I absolutely am on this one. This guy has dirt on high level people and did it either for personal gain or for another government (or both).
  15. Strait of Hormuz or Gibraltar?
  16. I want him to live on the less than 1% chance it will help lead to more information about who he was involved with. He’s a goner though.
  17. Not surprised at all. Only question is if he is suicidal knowing that he will never get out or the hit is on to make sure he never talks. I’ll go with suicide just because he’s still alive.
  18. M4A that want it seems like a terrible idea. It will be treated like another welfare program for the unemployed, poor, undocumented, etc. The per person costs will be astronomical and it will be first in line for the chopping block for republicans. It also loses the overhead reduction benefits from having everyone on the same plan. If we are worried about the middle class being scared off, the best bet is selling them on supplemental insurance. “This plan will cover all of your basic needs, including if something really bad happens. But, if you’re worried about _______, you can always purchase supplemental insurance. Since all of your medical necessities are already covered, these plans will be very affordable.”
  19. Austin isd raises go into effect this month.
  20. “Just because someone is offended doesn’t make an act offensive.” This is the hard part with things related to sexual harassment. All of the trainings I go to say exactly the opposite. I’m careful as hell at work because I work with 90% women and one accusation can sink you.
  21. Just because these people are chanting things that they have always believed privately doesn’t really mean that much has changed. These people have been here all along trying to drag down progress since the start. We overcome them most of the time but they rear their ugly heads at others. Let’s hope that we overcome them once more in 2020 but also never forget that these terrible people aren’t gone. We can never let our guard down again.
  22. What about access to his office 12 days a month?
