  1. Of course I'm not asking you to write a school paper for me! Jeez, how could you even think that? Hey, if you don't mind, could please you cite four credible literary sources that document the comments that people have made responding to my questions by 2pm today?
  2. WWII began in much the same way for the Russians as the Ukraine War has. They began with their disastrous invasion of Finland, which they managed to pull together somewhat towards the end, followed by the Nazi's running all over them for a year or two. Eventually they learned from the Germans and were able to improve their equipment and tactics and eventually outperformed their enemy. Is there a fear that they will improve their performance against the Ukrainians or was this war always un-winnable?
  3. I have another question for the forum: Based on the current Russian clown-show that they have revealed themselves to be, do you think the old 70's-80's Soviet Union would have been more effective in their operations? Is this indicative of Putin ruining his military or is this of incompetence something that is always pervasive in Russia military operations?
  4. Say what you want about the Daily Mail but they do have some awesome graphics:
  5. While we can't say for sure how US/Western armor and tactics would hold up in the new, drone-dominated battlefield, it sure is nice to watch someone else learn the hard lessons and try to learn from it, rather than getting our forces battered. It sure looks like the Russians are learning some very hard lessons. After fighting in our last two un-winnable wars, I am glad that it was Putin that dragged his country into a hopelessly un-winnable war. I'm so sorry for the Ukrainian people and even the Russian conscripts who have to die for one man's vanity.
  6. Don't trigger me, bro.
  7. What's interesting is that over the last few years, YouTube has been hosting lots of GoPro videos of Syrian tanks blundering around urban settings with no air or ground support and getting destroyed. Now, I'm astounded to see the Russians employing the exact same horrible tactics. It appears the Russians are no more competent than the bad Arab armies.
  8. I think you are right on all points. However, do you think our tanks are more resistant to damage than the Russian ones are, or are they just bigger targets?
  9. Thanks. While our carriers allow us to maintain a "blue water" navy, do you think the Chinese will develop some kind of drone attack system deployed by subs?
  10. I'm curious what people think here. Do you think that this war is revealing huge liabilities to our military's reliance on mechanized warfare and our carriers looking like giant targets, or do you ascribe the results of this war to the utter ineptness of the Russian military?
  11. Agreed. German armor was hopelessly overrated. They had suspension problems, they made too many types of vehicles so replacing parts was a bitch, the overlapping wheels meant when a back wheel broke, you had to take off three. And as the war dragged on and they were running out of gas, what was their big solution? Build super-heavy vehicles that were horrible gas guzzlers and were too wide and heavy for the bridges of Europe. American and English tank engineering didn't get all the love but it was superior.
  12. I'm a big fan of the current Belorussian military strategy: "Mother Russia, we are coming to help you! We are ready to begin. Our soldiers will be marching together with you in victory very soon!! Here we go! We are ready to march shortly! Let this begin, tomorrow, or the next day, for sure! Or maybe the very next day! Onward to certain victory!!!!!
  13. Back in the day, there was a fistfight at a distant relative's funeral. Somebody in back called out the speaker for 'standing up there lying'. A few folks amen'd and the dead man's family didn't appreciate it obviously. Even though it was true. So when they were taking the body out, shit got real. In a somewhat related note, there are two famous instances of fighting for control over corpses. One is the physical struggle in the Parkland Hospital between the staff and the secret service over who would carry out President' Kennedy's corpse. The other was the often-physical struggle between NYPD and NYFD over who would carry out the bodies from the 911 wreckage. If it was their man (or woman,) the two sides would have a physical struggle over control of the body that would sometimes turn into the throwing of the fists.
  14. Wow. Did anyone see what Schefter just posted?
  15. Geez, Gil. Guess he has reached the age where he officially doesn't care or maybe he's just stupid.
  16. Full Mexican American on both sides. Guess that doesn't fit the narrative here, but truth.
  17. Well, what we are currently doing for a large segment of our population clearly isn't working, as we have huge numbers of people leaving high school with no skills or prospects. I propose we re-focus on the ways that we can give them a better chance or a shot at a useful* college degree, like they are doing at a highly-regarded school in South Texas. *We already have enough people graduating from college with bullshit degrees and no tangible skills, many mired in hopeless debt, but that is for another thread.
  18. Thanks for your posts. Here, if you post an opinion that differs from other people, you're stupid, "simple," a racist, a communist, a snowflake, etc, etc. It's truly reflective of how we are unable to handle disagreement on a national scale.
  19. You are correct in that I was wrong in claiming that they are teaching STEM exclusively. Hey, I admit it. However, they exist primarily to teach STEM to people who have previously been denied careers in science, technology and medicine and they are doing an amazing job of it. They weren't formed to teach more history. Today, we are failing to prepare kids in our inner cities and as you pointed out, low-income rural communities for relevant careers today. We could repeat these amazing success stories from these STEM-focused schools by following their model. And yeah, I'm pretty "simple," as my wife would surely attest, lol.
  20. The South Texas ISD Science Academy was formed to give the undervalued people of that community an opportunity to develop the useful skills that will give them access to the great careers in technology and medicine and they are highly successful. It wasn't formed to teach kid more history. Would you regard what they are doing as regressive and racist? I think it is amazing and really smart. I would like to see this model expanded for people who are marginalized in our society, with less emphasis on the humanities, as I consider the skills they can acquire through STEM to be more valuable today.
