There's a lot of good points in your post and I enjoyed learning about your story.
I certainly never claimed in my post that I wasn't racist. As a Hispanic American, I had a typically racist childhood — mostly by my Hispanic grandparents who were the most racist people you would ever meet and hated Black people more than you could ever image. We grew up in a mostly White, typically redneck part of San Antonio and everyone, including me was, well, a racist. When our White school played Black schools in sports, the racist stuff would fly in both directions. It's called the 70's in Texas.
I am not talking about teaching White kids that they grew up in a hopelessly racist society and they should feel guilty. We should acknowledge it, of course, but I prefer students, especially people of color, should focus on getting as many skills as they can in school. My daughter's program at her university (go Duke Blue Devils—just saying), is doing an AMAZING job of helping students of color at middle and high schools. They're teaching them coding. These students are getting a kick-start in how to make something of themselves and it's working really, really well! If I had my choice, I would eliminate history and social studies programs entirely and make education more like a trade school.
I'm sure I harbor many racist views, but I am proud to say that I own a large and growing media platform and I use it to promote the businesses owned by people of color for no cost. We charge the White folks.
Sorry, no pics of her or her roommates, lol.
