  1. careful, there is now a $99 microcenter inland professional 1TB nvme ssd with QLC (quad level cell) flash ram instead of the TLC (triple level cell) of the pricier ($129) inland premium 1TB nvme.  QLC is bad for boot/scratch drives because it is so slow to write.  it also has less endurance than the other types of flash ram.  good for game drives though.
I'm too drunk to understand what this post means right now.
  2. If you're doing photo work, consider allocating a big part of the budget to a really good quality display, possibly calibration tool, and possibly wacom tablet.
The computation stuff isn't a big deal.  I've been heavy into it last few years and make do on ultrabooks and it handles it with aplomp...nothing really taxes the machine other than large HDR composites.
Luminar 3 crashes my Lenovo AIO laptop all the time
  3. I'm looking to build my first PC -- out of boredom really.

My main purposes would be work, standard home use, mild photography editing (emerging hobby), and mild gaming (nostalgic hobby).  I would say I have pretty good tech skills, but not from a building/programming standpoint.  I did a simple search on pcpartpicker and found this build.  https://pcpartpicker.com/b/kf9G3C

Any feedback on it?  Also, how do people go about picking up software?  Do you just take it in the shorts and buy an outright Microsoft license?

Since we're about to move I won't be buying the pieces yet, just doing the research and price tracking.  I'm in DFW so I have a MicroCenter nearby

My wife is addicted to cookbooks. We started as getting one from wherever we traveled, often times from a restaurant where we’d eat. A lot of the restaurant purchased ones are autographed which is cool. It expanded though to ordering from Amazon as she gets into a certain type of cuisine and now books show up on our doorstep fairly frequently. My favorite to cook from is Donald Link’s “Real Cajun.” Got that one at Herbsaint the night we got engaged.

She got an app called Eat Your Books and it allows you to upload your cookbooks to the app, houses all the recipes so if your wanting a shrimp dish for example it will pull all the shrimp recipes from your library. Pretty cool when meal planning and results in getting more use out of the books.

Just looked for the app and the name didn't come up.

Check out Jabra Elite 75t or whatever their newest release is. Jabra has led the industry in Bluetooth technology since the beginning. Their wireless ear buds have 4 microphones which makes phone calls great. Check out some of the reviews and videos.

I hate my Jabras.  The sound and mic are great for calls, but they are the most uncomfortable fucking things ever.  Just downright painful both to the ear canal and ear drums (upon insertion) and I've attempted multiple ear inserts.

  6. Here's a question for the surl what is the "official" grade for a brisket? What is stamped on the packaging? What is on the label?

I was at kroger today and their briskets where in prime stamped cryos but the price label said choice on it $1.69/#

  7. Twice in the late week, I’ve cooked picanha on the BGE. Last Sunday, I did a straight grill over high heat after using EVOO+Perini Ranch steak rub+Hardcore Carnivore Black. Was awesome. Ran it again last night for my dad and his buddy, who were in town.

I was smoking some ribs so I smoked one picanha with salt/pepper/Black about an hour or 1:15 on 275-degree fire and then hot grilled the other with same Perini/Black rub mix as last Sunday. All I can is wow!

Last Sun — cut picanha in three “chunks” before grilling

Smaller pieces below are one of the grilled chunks and the larger slices are from the smoked one, which I let go a little longer than I wanted. Cooked much faster than expected.

Where did you get the picanha?

  8. The answer is if you go to Oklahoma for any other reason other than to shit on OU's campus than you are part of the problem. Never go to Oklahoma. What the fuck is wrong with you.
    It's hard times my man
  9. I came across this thread in my search to find a borracho beans recipe. I then realized I dont know the difference between pinto beans as they're made in this thread, charro beans, and borracho beans.

    Can someone enlighten me?

  10. Pick single point autofocus, put the focus point where you want it on a stationary object, take a picture and see if that is in focus. basically start with a process of elimination. work from what should be the most accurate focusing method (other than manual focus) and work through the focus modes. if you are using a group or wide focus mode, you should be aware that no matter how smart those modes are supposed to be, things in the foreground will often take priority, even if it is not the subject in your mind
Is that the same as metering?
  11. DSLRs and their lenses sometimes require focus adjustments. Could be that you are having back or front focusing issues. Is it just one lens, multiple lenses, any lens?
Any lens. I'm chalking it up to user error but I'm not sure how to correct.
  12. I'm having trouble w focusing on my Canon Rebel SL1 or maybe it's just that I can't figure it out.  It always seems like it focuses on the opposite of what I want it to ( foliage when I'm taking pictures of people or some random object when I'm taking a landscape picture).  Any tips?

For how long? The train down by the river is probably ok Covid-wise. The kids will love it. We saw all sorts of wild life. That entire area near the train is nice even if you do not feel comfortable riding the train. It is a campground with RV's and campers, etc. with just a good feel during a sunny day. Is your friends wife hot? If so, yall may want to go swimming. Our house had a lot of activities so we really only left that one time. Great area.

Friday to Sunday.  Well, she's pregnant -- which there's nothing wrong with but I usually avoid those categories on The 'Hub

Has anyone been here before and have any recommendations on any must-do's/don'ts? We have about 10 adults plus 5 kids (7 mos - 3 years old) going in May and all staying in the same house. We were going to rent a boat but decided not to due to the age of the kids. Hopefully we can visit the casino if time allows. More than anything we want to do relaxing activities, but I can's sit still for too long and would like options. We are there Friday - Sunday.

Is there a safe swimming hole?

Amazing hiking trails that are kid friendly?

Other things I haven't thought of?

We've got a trip here in 2 weeks with our 3 year old and my good buddy's, his wife, and 2 year old.  Any kid-friendly (non-COVID) activities you'd recommend?
