Because vision, dental, and hearing are important to a person's health, and extraordinarily detrimental to their abilities to work if they are left to deteriorate without treatment? That's all I got, unless you're being sarcastic.

I don’t think of Medicare being used by working people. After posting my random thoughts, I read an article on Forbes that mentioned the comparison to Medicare Advantage plans which contain these benefits. This would make traditional Medicare more competitive with those plans which could be a benefit. Ultimately it would likely result in premium increases for the beneficiaries.

The House is in recess until Sept 20 (yeah, not a joke, August recess this year is July 30 to Sept 20) and Schumer plans to kick off the reconciliation process as soon as the infrastructure bill passes the Senate today and wants committee markups on the text to be done by September 15.  The House will probably come back into session with both the infrastructure bill and the majority of the reconciliation text ready to be taken up.

The debt ceiling is going to be a fight, as usual.

When you say “reconciliation text”, are you referring to the reconciliation instructions or alternatively the actual legislative text of the bill with all of the spending and tax changes?

Also, how do you think the progressive caucus in the House reacts when Manchin, etc. strip down some of the social programs and related tax changes?

  3. I’m still not certain they can pass either the infrastructure or reconciliation bill. The House and Senate are both playing chicken right now with the House being unwilling to take up the infrastructure bill until the Senate passes reconciliation instructions. Sinema is publicly complaining that $3.5 trillion is too much.

Also, they will have to increase the debt ceiling at the same time.

  4. Greg Abbott puts children at risk to help him win the Republican primary. It’s that simple. He cares more about being Governor than Texas school children.

How morally bankrupt can one individual be?

  5. So, how worried do I need to be about Delta?

Entire family is vaccinated and my vaccinated 80 year old FIL cancer survivor lives with us. Prior to this latest flare up, we had returned to normal as I was going back to the office most days, having lunches and dinners with clients and colleagues and not wearing a mask anywhere.

I’m starting to worry that I need to shut things back down again. I’ve started masking up in common spaces at the office and will go back to only getting groceries via curbside. Eating at restaurants is likely out as well.

What’s the latest in breakthrough infections in the not so healthy elderly?

Or game 2. Game 2 gets overshadowed by game 5, but its a top 5 game in Astro history, IMO.

Correct - I was in the right centerfield bleachers for Game 2 and afterwards didn’t think I would see a better game. Then Game 5 happened

  7. Prior to Covid, I noticed an epidemic of people from the back of the plane trying to push their way to the front to make their connection when our flight arrived early. You booked a 15 minute connection. That’s not my fucking problem.

  8. I think that ticket pricing on Qatar is a function of lack of business travel due to Covid. I still think the best business class product is Singapore’s A380, second is Qatar and Emirates comes in third. However I haven’t flown in Qatar’s new Q-suite.

if your considering flying to Doha and back to Southern Europe, consider doing that trip on Turkish Airlines. The onboard product isn’t as great; however Turkish’s business class lounge in Istanbul is my favorite lounge in the world. My wife and I did that going to Rome and it was an extremely comfortable trip.

Ah. @KYHorn because we cannot possibly get back to 2019 domestic supply levels.  We’ve drilled our best locations in the Permian, Bakken, Eagle Ford and Mid Con, and had by the start of Covid. We are on a very long road of domestic supply decline, and I predict it will be faster than people think.

We had also become the swing producer of the world, and I do not think the world has another source that can easily replace our decline.  Also, demand is sharply rising, much faster than what the experts thought.

Just curious - You don’t think OPEC+ can make up the difference?

with respect to GOM, I don’t see any desires for true greenfield projects. It’s just too damn expensive without consistent high prices. If infrastructure is relatively close and can be tied into, then GOM still works.
