  1. Will It? Sounds like the TV never says where it is...no location data. If he logged in with a phone/tablet/computer, it will. But if only on a smart TV...will it? When I go to the YTTV location settings on my TV, although I'm using Nvidia Shield, not a smart tv app, it has no ability to change the home area or the current playback area from the device and says that I should go to a mobile device. So I'm wondering if you do exactly what he did above, and you log in on somebody's device that doesn't have location services remotely, he'll just have Boston/home area TV stations permanently?
  2. Happens from time to time on various devices for me. Seems to clear up after a while... Not sure if it's something I'm doing to clear it up or on their end. Sometimes if I just pause and unpause it will straighten out.
  3. Sling TV v YTTV tl:dr - YTTY still the winner, but Sling has some really nice features. I signed up for Sling for UTSA game. Sling is a lot jankier than YTTV for me, but that could be the device app more than the Sling service. I'm on NVIDIA Shield. But it takes a restart pretty regularly, or hangs on start screen, and the slider, at least during live events that are DVRed is not as user friendly and isn't smooth. The preview image doesn't match the image in the stream. At one point, the start screen, which is black with a big Sling logo in the middle...got stuck on Slir...so I think Sling is drunk. I have only been playing with Sling for a few days, so I am sure I am missing things I haven't noticed yet...but... The image quality seems similar to me, although I don't have a high end set up. YTTV lets you record all "texas football games" or all episodes of a show. Sling doesn't seem to have this feature at least for sports. Sling default (didn't buy add on) DVR limit is ridiculous. YTTV unlimited is outstanding. Sling guide is OK, but i like YTTV better. Sling does not seem to let you reorder stations, but it does have some nice filters. Sports, News, Movies. They also have two that are probably to go to if I chose to stick with Sling (I'm not). Favorites and Recents. I don't like that Sling puts the free/no carriage fee crap channels from Roku/Samsung TV/Tubi/Pluto etc on the main guide. That's a lot of crap to scroll through...they do put it at the bottom though. Sling has a cool ESPN3 link in the guide that takes you to an ESPN-lite app just for E3. I have never seen this before, but it's nice. E+ has so much content, you can get lost. For example, I just discovered on Sling E3 app that I can watch UT volleyball on-demand on E3. The only time I've ever seen LHN content on E+ app is replays on LHN which I generally don't have access to. So I went over to ESPN app to find the same UT vball match on demand. Even searching for it and knowing what I was looking for took a while and it kept pointing me to LHN replay/on-demand. If E3 puts up UT baseball games OD, I don't need LHN beyond the two football games. And yes, I love LHN, fuch the haters...it truly keeps me connected to campus and I watch everything on there, especially all live sports. Sling also lets you heart/favorite stuff on E3 which then shows up in your main recommendation screen...that's cool. I plan to catch up on UT vball and soccer. Another win for Sling that I wouldn't have noticed if not side by side. Sling listed the current UT vball match on ESPNU as starting at 12:05p my time. YTTV listed at 12:30p. Turns out YTTV schedule/grid bots got it wrong and started DVRing the match 25 minutes in. I can't really tell if Sling is a better deal or not. They have a really weird and arbitrary attempt at a-la-carte-ish. It seems that if I had Orange+Blue+Orange Sports+Blue Sports+DVR more it would be about the same price as YTTV, but still with limited DVR and no/few/less local channels depending on market. And Sling Orange only allowing 1 stream at a time seems like a deal breaker for any family. YTTV still wins the basics for me...most channels for the price, unlimited DVR, best UI, best app, local channels, easy to share with family. But Sling has some great features I wish YTTV would adopt. In the end, that YTTV DVR though. That makes it the winner. Even if Sling had a product closer to YTTV, I'd still go with YTTV for a simple single price instead of the artificially weird Orange, Blue, Orange+Blue, Orange sports extra, blue sports extra, DVR extra...blah blah crap. And YTTV borrowing from Fubo and adding four screens at once will be awesome.
  4. Sling Orange, which you got for the UTSA game only allows 1 stream...so you got kicked when buddy logged in. Sling Blue allows 3 streams. I also signed up for Sling for the UTSA game...there is a shit ton or really arbitrary shit with Sling between the blue and the orange. including this weird stream limitation.
  5. This is correct. The creds I was using to authenticate LHN until recently was Charter out of NYC. I'm in DC.
  6. If you are willing to give out your Google password, no issues at all, but there is a LOT of personal data tied to your one GOOG PW... auto fill stuff, settings, history, etc. If they are out of your DMA area, they will not get their local stations, they will get yours. As mentioned, you can add them to your family group which is easier. BUT... if you add a family member from another area, like a parent that is old...you will be incessantly annoyed by them every single time they get a gentle reminder from YTTV they are out of area, which doesn't affect viewing or stations at all. Mom calls in a panic every. single. time. No matter how many times I remind her it's just a reminder, and remind her she's still getting Houston local stations, and that the worst case scenario is that she'll see DC stations for a day while I reset, she panics. She is the audience for these warnings. I bet they get few new panic subscribers every month.
  7. They have in some parts. Two fiber providers are digging/hanging fiber in my inside-the-Beltway burb, which has never had fiber to date due to politisuckitude, and Comcast charges more for way less speed on coax than either of the new providers will charge on newly installed unlimited fiber. And Comcast has a data cap for 2/3rds of the country and soon the rest (my area is the holdout). My family's regular usage will hit the data cap every month and 60% of the usage is streaming. Our regular usage will see our already-high bill double with the cap overages. And fuck you Comcast for making me analyze all this shit and worry about pausing TV before I leave the room.
  8. If it ain't too much hassle, can you also post the time the game aired with the top ten lists?
  9. Good friend: https://www.hhzfamilylaw.com/attorneys/charles-e-hardy/ DM if you want more info.
  10. It took a damn spreadsheet for me to work all this crap out...heads up that pricing for the Disney Bundle and the three services is changing at various dates moving forward. And for those of you like me that got Disney+ with the three year discount when it launched, that ends in the middle of all of this. Check when your subscriptions end/renew and figure out if it's worth it to get a bundle or keep what you have. 8/23/22 - ESPN+ went up to $9.99 month/$99.99 year 10/10/22 - Hulu with ads goes up to $7.99/$79.99 11/3/22 - date that new Disney+ ad tier can be selected $7.99, effective Dec. 8 11/12/22 - Disney+ 3 year deal ends/renews at annual rate of $6.99/$69.99 until 12/8 12/8/22 - Disney+ goes up to $7.99ads/$10.99/$109.99...bundles also go up: $12.99 for all 3 with ads $14.99 bundle with ad free D+ $1 more...only existing bundle customers eligible $19.99 bundle with ESPN+, ad free Disney+ & ad free Hulu
  11. Blessings on you and your house! That's awesome.

  13. This will absolutely jinx me, but protip...if you previously loaded up someone else credentials in the ESPN app to get LHN and those credentials changed, check all your devices. I still have LHN on two devices even though a friend of a friend of a friend changed their password and booted me from one device several months ago.
  14. Amazing game. Speed everywhere for Leeds. Makes me wonder if the tie my Spurs eked out v Chelsea last week isn't as strong as I previously thought. 🙂
  15. It's really dependent on exactly where you live and the coverage. But if you can get good speeds at the house, it is plenty fast enough for the streaming and browsing needs of a family. Check the limits though. I'm familiar with TMo 5G home Internet, but not Verizon's. If you stream a lot of it's your primary means of TV, you might hit you cap and then get throttled. No idea if the throttled speed is enough.
  16. I am a Beatles fan above the Rolling Stones for one stupid reason. I made it to summer school class at UT for History of Rock and Roll for the day they covered the Beatles and skipped the next day...they day they covered the Stones. Didn't care for the Beatles before that class...they were my parents music. Loved them ever since.
  17. My guess is that this helps ND stay indyacc. NBC can still resign ND for a bigger paycheck, but not as much as B1G payouts, and will still prioritize ND home games on NBC with one or two a season on Peacock. If there comes a weekend that NBC can get a huge B1G game on in primetime the same weekend as an ND home game, ND will play at 3:30p for a double header. While TV loves the primetime games, the fans love the day games. This is NBC building out their CFB content, not doing away with what they have now. They could easily write it in the contract, assuming NBC and other partners don't balk, that they get first dibs on ND away games vs B1G opponents.
  18. Didn't know this! Thank you!! Unverified Interwebs says 15% discount for GEICO.
  19. Tip for anyone: if you are working from home, or otherwise driving less than pre-COVID, call and adjust miles driven. They will lower your rates a bit.
  20. GEICO. Adding one kid more than doubled ours (mom and dad on the policy). It added over $100 per month comparing 2017 to 2019 (last full year with mom/dad v first full year with kid added). Rates have gone up since then. Had to extrapolate total costs as they don't make it easy to pull out cost per driver. Tip: when they head off to college, if they aren't driving there and it's far enough from home (not commuting) you can call and have them lower the rate for them while in college. You don't have to call them in the summer or on breaks, they assume s/he is driving when they are home. Gulp... Three other kids will need to be insured this year!
  21. tl;dr - Samsung sucks and so does Consumer Reports. Buy American if you can at least until the supply chain issues are resolved. And you get what you pay for in this space as far as my experience. I bought a Maytag commercial grade W/D. So far so good. I bought them directly from maytag.com. I bought the Consumer Reports's best rated W/D and every kitchen appliance in 2016. I wasn't going for anything matching, I wanted the best in each category. Every single appliance had something go wrong within a year. Samsung front loader washer, Samsung front loader dryer, Kitchenaid DW, Samsung fridge, Samsung stove, Samsung microwave (microwave was the one item I didn't get the very best rated cuz they were all rated about the same and I thought the microwave above the stove should match.) Yes, at that specific moment in Time all those Samsung appliances were rated the very best by consumer reports. And each and every one of them was a complete heaping steaming pile of shit. I had the most trouble with the washing machine and the KitchenAid dishwasher. That was replacing parts on those fuckers every 3 to 6 months. And of course it was process of elimination so I'd replace something only to find out I had to replace something else. I suspect I spent more repairing that fucking Samsung washer and then on the Samsung washer itself. I've also asked an appliance repair guy what he recommends. He said everything in his house is GE. Says they're all simple as hell and it's easy to get some parts. Of course I didn't take that advice at all. For me it all boiled down to a choice between the above-mentioned Speed Queen and a Maytag. Speed Queen washing machine which has legions of fanboys who will be deeply offended if you don't buy one. Think iPhone users for a washing machine. But they have a point. It's made in the USA, it's a tried and true old school washing machine that fills up with water and has an agitator. They completely ignored all the stupid front loader trendy bullshit. As far as I know they're missing about three different control boards that my Samsung washer had. Cuz you don't need that. If you're interested in going down the Speed Queen rabbit hole, check out all the YouTube videos that have comparisons. And like vintage cars, there's arguments over a couple of years where the Speed Queen tried to be a little bit more EPA friendly and the model wasn't as good. So make sure you don't get one of those. I decided to go with the Maytag commercial grade residential washer and dryer because the maytags agitator does more work than the Speed Queen agitator. There's YouTube video showing this comparison as well. I think they even have one on the Maytag website to show why there's is better. And then you'll get the army of Speed Queen users saying that video is crap. Basically, the maytags agitator has two moving parts versus Speed Queens one. That was enough for me to go for the maytag, because to me the agitator is what's actually getting things clean. Better agitator means cleaner clothes. I have six kids in the house, so the washer and dryer are running at least two loads a day every day. And an agitator top loader has less capacity than a front loader, so I'm definitely doing more loads a day than before. So of course I wore that Samsung washer down faster than most families. So far, the Maytag is brilliant. But I will tell you all the things we used to bitch about from the front loaders have some of their downsides too. I yelled as loud as anybody that the stupid EPA regs that wouldn't let the washer fill up with water was the reason my clothes weren't getting clean. The clothes in the front loader always had a smell, the front loader itself always had a smell, and once those kids sports clothes get that funky ass smell in them there's never any getting them out. But I will tell you, having a truly old school washer has its downsides. One, it is using a shit ton of water. It completely fills up to do the wash, then it completely fills up to rinse, then it might completely fill up a third time if you have it set to rinse again. I never thought that would bother me or I'd give a shit, cuz I am not that environmentally focused. But that's a lot of damn water. It has settings to use less water. And I'm still working out what actually gets our clothes clean and what doesn't. But I will tell you all those t-shirts that had that faint funky ass smell are all clean now from just one or two washes in the new old school washer. Another downside that never occurred to me, these old style machines really are harder on your clothes. I always read that and I never cared. And I still don't care. But clothes that lasted 5 to 10 years in the old washer are already showing signs of wear and tear and fraying from only having this washer for a few months. And I now have to be cognizant of the drain. So much extra lint and schmutz comes off the clothes now, that it will clog the drain. And so much water is in the washer, it will overfill my old school basement sink next to the washer. That was never an issue with the shitty front loader. And as far as the wear and tear on the clothes, honestly I've got clothes older than my kids, so it's not a bad thing for my clothes to wear out so I have to go buy new shit and I don't look like that old dude. The big advantages are that your clothes are actually clean, and a cycle only takes about 30 minutes. The Samsung washer would go 3 to 4 hours per cycle sometimes. I haven't had them long enough to need any service calls or try to figure out how easy it is to get parts. And I'm not expecting that I will, cuz there's just not that many parts in these beautiful old school bad boys. You didn't ask about this, but I replaced the KitchenAid dishwasher which crapped out, with a Meile dishwasher. I had to wait about 6 months to get one due to supply chain issues. Although they said I'd have to wait a year. So 6 months felt like a bonus. I've had so many problems with dishwashers, I decided to try to buy a top line one and see if they actually were as good as the internet says. And they're expensive. And they're German. So this flies against what I said above about buy American and get something where parts are going to be easier to get. Calculus was different for this since I just had the kids do the dishes by hand in the interim. Less critical than a washing machine. So far so good on the Miele dishwasher, although to be fair we've only had it a few weeks. But the dishes are noticeably cleaner then the previous dishwasher and even compared to my kids doing them by hand. Good luck.
  22. Web site is glitching a bit trying to respond. Probably user error! The Athletic article makes it clear the surprising disparity is because they get the late time slot to themselves on the bigger/better cable channel while Big 12 usually gets earlier slot but on less watched ESPN channels or worse, FS1. Big 12 games on earlier slots compete with SEC or B1G games and split the eye balls. Makes perfect sense and we've all known this. The perennial back handed compliment to Thursday or Friday night games. You get all the eye balls but you aren't a big dog if you are playing at that time. IMHO: The Pac will survive as it is at 10 and *might add a couple in their footprint. The Big 12 will stay put and do just fine. Nothing bigger shakes loose until we are closer to ACC deal being up a *long time form now...an eternity in CFB. The long ass GOR in ACC land is having the exact result it was designed for. Stability and slow the emotional roll. ND will stay independent and combine new NBC deal with streaming deal to stay as is. CBS will bid for that and Domers get better deal than expected. UT and OU don't join SEC early or if we do, just one year early. B1G responded to SEC move...didn't open the floodgates. Now we wait. This thread goes on for years and years and years.
