    F1 - Apple

Yeah they sounded eleventy bazillion times better not too long ago. They sound like vacuum cleaners now compared to even just 2012. Those of y'all complaining about the cars not sounding loud enough ... sadly, it was realistic for today's F1. That's just how the cars sound now. That engine formula change in 2013 was probably the biggest mistake F1 ever made, on multiple levels.

I love seeing movies in the theater, but people fucking talking out loud or looking at their fucking phones during the movie are just a beating. They can eabod and diaf, and the world will be a better place. Seriously. No doubt these are the same people that park shitty at HEB when it's open, then leave their cart sitting in a parking space when they leave. The prices suck, but if they got rid of the inconsiderate assholes, I'd pay even more. Last movie I saw with an intermission iirc was Reds, when I was in high school in like 1980. It was brutal. /csb

Nah, ignore him. He's never even in the F1 thread, and most of us there enjoyed the movie despite the rather inconsequential hollywood-ized silly moments. Like I said earlier, yeah, there are some things they got wrong, but no deal-breakers. It was a good flick. Is it Grand Prix or Le Mans? No, but imho nobody will ever do it that well again, which is crazy when you consider the era in which those movies were shot and the challenges they faced getting onboard shots. They remind me of 2001 vs modern sci-fi movies.
  4. I'm just here for the cock talk.
  5. So, like I said above, nothing changes with those guys, and they'll always be around no matter what. But in the meantime, a whole lot more people who don't know shit about their cars won't know they have dangerous issues with them because they won't be getting inspections.
  6. In before Classics.
  7. There will always be exceptions and people gaming the system, but cars are more complex now than ever before, and drivers in general know less about their cars than ever before. Hardly anyone these days even knows how to check their oil much less change it, check their tire tread, and lots of other super-basic shit. Without inspections there will be a great many people who won't even know they have fundamental safety issues on their cars that would have been easily detected with a simple inspection. Yeah I get that it's a pita and that the gubment uses it as yet another excuse to tack on an annual tax on top of the annual registration fee, but they're just shifting that now to the emissions testing fee anyway. Sure, reduce the frequency to every other year or so if you want. That's fine. Cars are more reliable than they've ever been. But eliminating inspections completely is stupid and just plain irresponsible.
  8. Exactly. There was a time when I'd regularly see cars on the road that weren't a whole lot better off than this one. You know, people just doin' their own thing. But not in decades, because inspections.
  9. I mean ... I've been getting cars inspected in Texas for 45 years - long enough to know that there are some pretty basic safety items that they inspect that will go uninspected now. Lights, tires, brakes, mirrors, seatbelts, tint darkness, valid insurance, etc. I've also been around long enough to have seen that many people will push and often exceed the limits in the absence of inspections and drive cars that are unsafe to drive.
  10. Even ignoring the emissions implications, doing away with inspections is madness in pretty much every way.
  11. LOL. It's Scotland, so of course Trump is triggered again about windmills. Here he is explaining how windmills are compoletely unrecyclable, that the carbon fiber blades 'rust' and 'rot', and they have to be dumped into the sea, all of which is complete fabricated nonsense, of course. LOL Starmer's doing everything he can to keep the stupidity from 'sploding his head. nsiap.
  12. Wow. They actually do believe that every time you see a con trail (condensation that freezes in the wake of a fast-moving plane) that it's actually cloud seeding. I guess those Indycar and F1 cars I've seen generating wingtip vortices/vapor trails were part of the conspiracy too! Dang. I wish I's MAGA smart!
  13. He might not be that rich, but Bernie and Flavio are. Flavio much less than Bernie tho. Horner is buddies with Bernie. And Bernie & Flav are buddies. And of course both Bernie & Flav know errbody ... lots of friends with big $$.
  14. Hmm .. apparently Horner is meeting with Bernie. Maybe gonna buy Alpine, maybe with Bernie and Flav? I hope so. Need to get rid of Renault/Alpine.
  15. Nah I don't blame him/them at all. It's all part of their job, trying to keep as many viewers as they can until the end of the broadcast.
  16. Yeah that happens so often at the end of races that I really think that's someone in his ear coaching him to manufacture drama where there really is none. And yeah (as is often the case) it was pretty clear that Lando was gaining on Oscar because he was pushing and Oscar was cruising and managing the gap. IMHO had he gotten close enough, Oscar would have just stepped it up a tad.
  17. Yeah Nico's awesome for just not gaf and asking the questions everyone else wants to hear asked. Being a WDC with lifetime Paddock access probably helps in that regard. He's not worried about losing access. He's very quick on his feet and is able to subtly twist the knife or get straight to the meat of the subect when everyone else is dancing around it. He also brings a lot of good insights as a former driver that some of the other ex-drivers don't seem to want to talk about imho. Also, love Ant, Paul (too bad he's gone), & Bernie for just bringing fantastic technical and/or driving insights. Jenson's too nice to say anything remotely controversial about any of the drivers, and Martin is good if you can get past his sometimes blatant biases. Jacques is actually pretty good too, like a crazy French Canadian asshole version of Nico. Crofty is like that big, goofy yellow lab that runs all over the yard not knowing much but not really needing to know that much (as far I'm concerned). And maybe even that's being too harsh on him imho. He knows a fair amount, but imho probably tosses silly theories and speculation into the discussion just so they get discussed & often dismissed - not necessarily because he actually believes them. He's good at being the guy that holds everything together, imho (which is much more difficult than it looks), and for me, that's all he needs to be. He's there to tie all the experts together, not to be an expert. That Harry Benjamin (?) guy seems to be being groomed for that spot, and he's pretty decent too imho. Karun is utterly freaking useless and hopelessly annoying, other than being a decent F1 historian. For analytical or current info purposes, he's a big, long-winded bowl of shit. IMHO Ted is great in the Paddock and pitlane, bringing a lot of good info from there in a usually entertaining way. Simon, Nat, & Naomi are good at the fluffy stuff & the three or more driver features/interviews per race weekend (2 with Lewis + 1 other Brit), so I'll allow them to stay. Karun and Crazy Danica can hit the bricks. /csb Other than the obvious and probably understandable Brit bias in the Sky coverage, I'm good with it - although it does seem to be getting more and more dumbed down lately a la the old NBC coverage. Gonna be interesting to see what we get if Apple gets (got?) US rights tho.
  18. It all still goes back to the cars being too fucking big and too fucking heavy, both of which are directly contradictory to the DNA of F1. Terrible on a tight street course, terrible in slow corners, and terrible in the rain/wet. And specifically today, the damage to the 'show' was even further exacerbated by not starting the race sooner. All around just a huge waste of a potentially great Sunday at Spa. Dry all weekend and then wet on Sunday - esp at Spa - used to typically be a great recipe. But nah. Let's take this great thing and fuck it all up.
  19. I hope it's at least a little wet. Looks like Aston is banking on rain & gambled with a wet setup for Qualifying.
  20. Trump’s war on windmills started in Scotland. Now he’s taking it global https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jul/24/trump-clean-energy-war-global
  21. Got damn, that sure is one punchable motherfucker.
  22. Just flat called him out as a liar right there. I love it.
  23. Yeah that makes sense. It was just weird, they also had him say "aboot" at one point, instead of "about".
  24. Any theories as to why they made Trump Canadian in this South Park episode?
