  1. It’s nice we get these 3 opponents in a row because it will be easy to tell what progresses and what doesn’t. Although I think UTEP and SHSU are a step below SJSU. If we clean up just half the stuff we need to, the results on the scoreboard will be noticeable.
  2. No idea but this was the same crew as the Vandy game last year where we got called for a lot of borderline stuff. The crew is definitely flag happy.
  3. You hating the WR screens then asking for Arch to run the Ewers playbook doesn’t really compute.
  4. We ran it up against all 3 G5 opponents we played last year. Covered all 3 spreads easily.
  5. He had a chance to get into the circle of trust all spring with Baxter out and Blue gone, and the result was a guy coming off an Achilles tear passing him on the depth chart.
  6. Just read an article on OU's On3 site saying this is the biggest game of the Brent Venables era, and people were in the comments basically trying to convince themselves it would be a program-changing win. A home game against the #15 team, starting a freshman QB, where you are favored by almost a touchdown.
  7. Depends on how it looks. Not all 35-3 wins look the same. The Rice game a few years back was 37-3 after 3 quarters, and we had like 400 yards of offense, but then Rice had a 10-minute drive in the 4th quarter, scored a garbage TD, and we only won 37-10. Then the freakout commenced for 6 days til we beat Bama.
  8. We win 41-7 instead of 56-7? If you are insinuating he would get pullled or something, lol.
  9. Bobby The Horns are working through a couple of injuries that have gone unreported. At least one defensive starter will be out for Saturday's game. The injury is not expected to be long-term in nature, maybe a couple of weeks.
  10. Some team notes from IT
  11. Nope. He actually said Niblett was WR5 behind Wingo, Moore, Livingstone and McCutcheon. Which is #notgreat considering how much 5 star money is tied up in dudes apparently unable to give us even a couple of snaps.
  12. I get the frustration, but I wouldn’t call losing to Georgia in OT and losing two 7 point games getting your ass handed to you. But I get your overall point. I don’t think Ryan Day’s gameplan in either matchup was to do very little offensively and pray we couldn’t score from the 1. This is the same hump Day and Kirby had to fight to get over. Took Kirby 5 tries to beat Bama and Day 7 years and 4 losses to Michigan to win a title. It’s more painful because we are close and aren’t just getting our doors blown off.
  13. Must be. If he is even 75% of Jaydon Blue or Keilan Robinson, you aren't moving him to defensive back 6 months ago. That was a red flag.
  14. The Insider from FCB (I’ve always assumed Gary Patterson is the coach he is talking to)
  15. If he were truly hurt, he wouldn't be playing against San Jose flipping State.
  16. Alex Dunlap's OL grades. One of my favorite pieces to read every week (long post but lots of good info)
  17. Cross-posting from the other OU thread. OL shuffle incoming (via their On3 site) OU could start two freshmen on the offensive line this Saturday against No. 15 Michigan. In January, the Sooners brought in two of the most highly-touted freshmen linemen in the country in Michael Fasusi and Ryan Fodje. And since they arrived on campus, they’ve been impressive. Both competed for starting jobs this preseason camp — Fasusi at left tackle and Fodje at right guard. And both could be the difference versus the Wolverines. “We’ve been bragging on those guys since they got here in January, every opportunity we could,” coach Brent Venables said on Wednesday during the SEC teleconference. “Only because their physical maturity and mental maturity have stood out, their willingness, their ability to show up every day and work at a high level, pick up the mental challenges of learning a new language, and then being away from home for the first time, they’ve been exceptional in every way.” Fasusi didn’t play in the season opener versus Illinois State after having a heat-related episode in practice. But he’s expected to return against Michigan and could potentially start with Jacob Sexton likely missing the game due to a knee injury. “It’ll be good to get Mike back,” Venables said. “He had a really good fall camp.” As for Fodje, he could also start on Saturday. He came in at right guard in the first quarter and never came back out, playing 56 of Oklahoma’s 72 snaps. “I thought it was, for a true freshman, that Ryan did some fantastic things,” Venables said. “He whooped and got whooped, lost a few battles as well, which is part of it.” According to SoonerScoop sources, Fasusi and Fodje have both gotten some first-team reps in practice this week. So has Derek Simmons at right tackle, as he also missed the first game. It’ll be fascinating to see who takes the first snaps of the game on Saturday. Oklahoma has several options at every position, including even center, as Troy Everett and Jake Maikkula are still battling. But it’s clear whether they start or not, there’s a good chance both Fasusi and Fodje will play meaningful snaps on Saturday night. That’s a tall task for two true freshmen, but OU feels like they are up for it. “Both those guys are mature beyond their years,” Venables said. “Have a lot to still learn and a lot of developing still, but we trust those guys. They’re going to strain, they’re going to compete, they’re going to respond. They’re going to show up ready to play.”

  19. 11 AM kick against San Jose State ain't gonna get many people fired up regardless of the previous week's result. At least the weather should be bearable (low to mid-80s during the game). The way this schedule is set up, in general, is going to check out most casual fans. 3 straight G5 games + a bye week + no home game in October. Feels a lot different than last year when we had UTSA and ULM right after Michigan, then jumped right into SEC play the next week.
  20. Bill Connelly made some similar points in his article this week: Indeed, all the major offensive measures are down compared with where they were this time last year. In Week 1 of last season, in FBS vs. FBS games, teams averaged 2.11 points per drive and 5.52 yards per play; this year it was 1.9 points per drive and 5.4 yards per play So what's the problem? Big plays vanished: The percentage of completions gaining at least 20 yards fell from 16.3% to 14.7%, and despite the uptick in completion rate (and the downtick in sacks), average yards per dropback fell from 6.4 to 6.0. You know how pro defenses adapted to force Patrick Mahomes to settle for checkdown after checkdown because they were basically forming an umbrella at the back? It appears college defenses are doing the same thing. They're forcing quarterbacks -- who, on average, are less experienced than in recent years -- to dink and dunk and score points before making a crippling error or coming up short on third down. It's working.
  21. Nothing gives a team and offense confidence like the coach saying let’s kick a FG from the 1 foot line to make a 1 touchdown a game a 1 touchdown game. I’m sure the offense would feel all warm and fuzzy jogging off the field.
  22. If you can put up with some Ian Boyd for 10-15 minutes, here is him and Wadlington breaking down a few Arch plays in the first half of the video.
  23. He did a good job of hitting the trifecta of talking points you hear from anyone with half a brain: 1. Questioned why his HS team got blown out in the playoffs if Arch is so good. lol 2. If he is so good why didn't he start last year. Check 3. Said if he was truly competitive and wanted to show he was the best, he would have competed at Elite 11. Nailed it.
  24. 1. Get Arch some confidence/rhythm 2. Let the OL gel 3. Figure out a different punt return plan than sticking Ryan Niblett back there 4. Get Christian Clark 30 carries Those are my priorities, in order, for the next 3 weeks. I don't even care that we are about to go 15/15 in the red zone either. The next time I'll care about that is Florida.
  25. Your opponent starting their next drive on their own 1 is actually something the computers factor in.
