  1. David Morris also trains KJ Lacey
  2. I ain't worried about Simmons in the least. Nothing these first 3 teams have done in the passing game has been conducive to edge players getting a bunch of sacks. He'll be fine.
  3. I'm assuming that is another PFF number, so I'll take it with a grain of salt. The OL ain't great, but it has been adequate in pass protection, and I rarely see Arch running for his life. If anything, he has created some self-pressure by bailing too early on reads.
  4. I think the idea is that Milwee and Flood are supposed to help formulate the gameplan and be the lead voices in the room when Sark has to go to a defensive meeting or whatever. I've heard the analyst they promoted to assistant QB coach (Bimonte) is pretty involved too and is who sits in the box as the eyes in the sky for the offense. Maybe it has changed, but several years ago, I heard a second-hand story about a game where Sark was on the headset asking the offensive assistants for recommendations/suggestions and was basically met with crickets.
  5. We had Casey Thompson playing behind a bad OL with 4 fingers and Marcus Washington as his WR2 and we had a better offense than this. There are JV QB’s at Austin Westlake who could make some of the throws Arch is missing. I don’t care how bad Caldwell was at Troy, you can’t convince me he couldn’t throw a 8 yard curl route to a receiver standing stil.
  6. CJ Vogel just posted the full snap counts Defense Out of 61 total snaps. 45 – Jaylon Guilbeau 42 – Michael Taaffe 40 – Jelani McDonald, Anthony Hill Jr., Hero Kanu 36 – Liona Lefau 35 – Malik Muhammad 34 – Graceson Littleton 31 – Maraad Watson, Trey Moore 30 – Colin Simmons 29 – Ethan Burke, TyAnthony Smith 24 – Zina Umeozulu 23 – Cole Brevard 20 – Jordan Johnson-Rubell, Derek Williams Jr. 19 – Wardell Mack 18 – Warren Roberson 17 – Kade Phillips 15 – Lance Jackson 13 – Brad Spence, Travis Shaw 11 – Colton Vasek 8 – Melvin Hills 5 – Kobe Black 3 – Josiah Sharma *** Offense Out of 85 total snaps. 85 – Brandon Baker, Trevor Goosby, DJ Campbell, Connor Stroh 81 – Arch Manning 78 – Parker Livingstone 75 – Ryan Wingo 66 – Cole Hutson 62 – Jack Endries 31 – Spencer Shannon, Jerrick Gibson 28 – Christian Clark 26 – James Simon 24 – Ryan Niblett 23 – Daylan McCutcheon 19 – Connor Robertson 16 – Jordan Washington 13 – Nick Townsend 8 – Aaron Butler 5 – Emaree Winston 4 – Kaliq Lockett, Matthew Caldwell 1 – CJ Baxter
  7. Gerry said this morning that this is catching everyone in the building by surprise, and it is not what they saw in practice throughout the spring and fall.
  8. I saw him on the field early. He had a pressure on Nelson on 3rd down when UTEP was backed up in their own end zone. Didn't see him much in the second half.
  9. Did OU’s offensive ineptitude hurt their ability to fix things? It’s an NIL world and about 90% of conversations and decisions these days center around money.
  10. There isn’t a playcaller in the world who could work with what Arch is offering right now and make it look good. -Simple swing passes to RBs? Overthrown. -Quick hitches to the perimeter? 2 feet out of bounds. -1 v 1 with a receiver having 3 steps on a safety? Overthrown. We had to take the ball out of our own QB’s hands in the second half and spam 4 yard runs against UTEP over and over. That was the most depressing moment for a Texas offense since we started a right tackle in the Strong era who had a nickname from the coaches about being afraid of contact.
  11. Anyone who wants the glass half full can rightfully point to the fact we had 470 yards and should have still covered the spread despite all the times we stepped on our own dick. I don’t see any position or aspect of the offense as being completely inept like OU last year or anything like that. It’s just a lot of little things adding up right now and we only need to clean up like half of it to properly complement this defense.
  12. Massive line swing. Spread is down from -41.5 to -40.5 today.
  13. Read the quote right below that.
  14. A few team notes from OB * After several conversations with people behind the scenes, I sensed a lot of positivity and optimism that Texas would play about as close to a complete game as possible on Saturday. I was told that Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian challenged his players to improve in every area this week, and his team responded accordingly. * I was also told that Sarkisian “chewed their asses out” this week. From what I could gather, it sounded like Sarkisian channeled his inner Nick Saban and went “old school” during practices. * This has been a week of accountability during practice. One person told me that too many units have underperformed and were seemingly waiting for Arch Manning to bail them out. I was told that every unit needs to step up on Saturday. * Alex Dunlap recently questioned if Derek Williams has officially handed the torch over to Xavier Filsaime. I was told that Filsaime has seemingly beaten out Williams for that spot. * I asked about receiver Ryan Wingo, and those close to the situation believe he is putting too much pressure on himself. They believe that if Wingo can mentally relax and stop pressing, he will reach his full potential. * The same applies to Colin Simmons. One person said Simmons is “too excited and amped up.” He is another player on this roster with a high ceiling, and the staff wants him to mentally relax and not press. * Based on my conversations this week, I would be surprised if we saw Texas freshman safety Jonah Williams anytime soon. He is still recovering, and Sarkisian is not going to rush him back until he is ready to fully participate. * I was told that the staff is excited about Justus Terry’s future at Texas. For now, Terry is not big enough to play on the inside. According to Alex Dunlap, Terry had seven snaps against San Jose State. It appears Terry will benefit from another offseason with Texas strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton to prepare for a permanent move inside. * One person told me that Daylan McCutcheon is one of the smartest and most instinctive freshman receivers some members of this staff have seen. That is one of the reasons why McCutcheon is ahead of the other freshman receivers from the 2025 class.
  15. UTEP sucks, but covering a 41.5 point spread while missing 5-6 starters would be solid. The offense taking a step forward without Moore, Wisner, Mosley, and a potentially limited Endries would be encouraging regardless of the opponent.
  16. I think that had mainly to do with the fact that he had spent 2 years in an air raid offense, which is like a different planet compared to a normal pro-style/NFL-type system.
  17. Alex Dunlap's OL grades for SJSU (long post, great info)
  18. I'll post his grading scale when he releases it. It is different than PFF. Anything below 74.5 is considered horrible.
  19. Chris Jackson can't coach just like PK couldn't coach in 2021, Choate couldn't coach in 2022, Gideon couldn't coach in 2023 and Kenny Baker couldn't coach last offseason. I'm pretty sure Gerry has mentioned Jackson turned down NFL jobs last offseason.
  20. I’ll share the full write up once it is posted, but Dunlap on OB said he just finished his OL grades for SJSU and a few things stuck out: -Goosby graded out above 80 on his scale which is considered very good -Baker actually graded out at 79.13 which is considered very solid -Stroh was 73 which is horrible and Umeozulu was at 79. He said if Flood sees stuff the same way he does, there is no reason Neto shouldn’t be given the starting nod against UTEP.
  21. 2 game sample size stats and averages are eye rolls, for any team really, especially the ones that have played FCS opponents or have had 1 of their 2 games against a top 5 team in the country. And I'm not talking about chronic stuff like red zone and whatnot. If 50% of a player's snaps for the season are against Ohio State, I'm willing to let a little more data be collected before talking about what his average yards per game or yards per catch are, both for the good and the bad. We had 1 sack through 2 games last year, then had 45 over our next 14 games.
  22. It would be nice to know what is playing into that number on special teams. Are they weighing punting, kicking, and returns all equally? Is there a way to factor in coverage stuff? If your kickoff specialist just kicks it through the endzone every time, so your opponent starts on the 25, how is that compared to a team that kicks it to the 5 and tackles their opponent on the 23?
  23. Winning a national title is never easy, but I'm not sure I can look at this year or future years and say it will be easier than the path we had in 2023 or last year. As the playoff expands, it creates more opportunities for injuries, bad luck, the ball bouncing in funny ways, etc. The playing field seems to be more level than ever before in the college game due to a variety of factors. I think we all have high expectations of this team and they need to play better, but it's balancing those expectations with the fact that the sport has changed to the point where you are trying to set yourself up to peak at the right time. Going 10-2 in the regular season and setting yourself up for a playoff run is considered a good season. Hell, 9-3 is likely going to start being considered a good season once the SEC starts playing 9 conference games, if we continue to play the Notre Dame and Ohio State types out of conference.
  24. SP+ is still mainly using data from last year. Paragraph right above the rankings: Note: Early in the season, ratings are based primarily on preseason projections, including special teams ratings. Over the course of the season, preseason numbers are slowly phased out from week to week.
  25. Bobby is saying as many as 6 players in the two-deep could be out for UTEP. Wisner, January and Mosley are obviously three. I guess the other three to monitor would be Moore, Taaffe and Simmons? I think it was mentioned Endries exited with an ankle at some point last weekend but I think he returned.
