  1. It's going to be a battle for innings if Ruger, Harrison and Grubbs all make it through the draft and we get all the freshman arms on campus. Volantis, Grubbs, Harrison, Ruger, Burns, Saunier, Flores, Bing, Walker, Rerick, Hamilton, Navarre, Leffew, Higgins, Dotson, Howard (ducks) + any freshman who are ready. Going to have a lot of options.
  2. So if the leans fall our way (Guervil, Okpala, Turntine, Ojo and Carlton), we get 1 of Griffin or Atkinson and beat out South Carolina for Matthews, that puts us at 22 commitments heading into the season with obvious needs at WR, RB and S heading into the season. Looking back at last year it appears we had 19 commits when the season kicked off.
  3. Gerry Thursday recruiting update 1. OTF still likes where Texas sits with 4-star++ DL Kendall Guervil 2. OTF likes Georgia more for 4-star+ S/LB Chace Calicut 3. OTF believes 4-star++ DL James Johnson could go either way. 4. OTF likes where Texas sits with 5-star OT John Turntine III 5. Confidence remains for Texas with 5-star LB Xavier Griffin. OTF will continue to check to see if that remains, of course. 6. OTF likes where Texas sits with OT Felix Ojo. Early July decision likely. 7. 4-star++ CB Samari Matthews could go wither way with Texas and South Carolina. A little more Longhorns chatter today. 8. Texas very much in it with 4-star++ DB Davon Benjamin. Oregon is all in, however. This one could play out another month or so.
  4. Hopefully he takes his car in for service following his commitment announcement (Crowell's IG)
  5. They (rankings people) usually seem to default to returning production with a sprinkle of what was done in the portal because transfers are more unpredictable, so I have a tough time thinking it will be us. LSU is probably the right answer even with some of the big names they are losing.
  6. Does anyone see a slam dunk preseason #1 team right now? (insert A&M joke here) Looking around the rest of the SEC and the country and it seems wide open. LSU and Arkansas are losing a ton. Mississippi State has loaded up in the portal and is returning some nice pieces but not sure if it is #1 overall worthy.
  7. Not sure what is making you say that. The attrition under Flood has been extremely minimal. I count 13 scholarship OL heading into this year, with only Hutson and Campbell being seniors. In the portal era that is a pretty acceptable scholarship count to be at for a position that often requires more development than others.
  8. Considering we already have an interior guy and tackle committed, going 5 for 5 out of that group, all of whom prefer to play tackle, was never happening and hell 3/5 was probably a stretch. The 9.95ers claimed Krempin was being sold on some swiss army knife role but I am curious at our approach on the interior outside of Robertson. We look a lot of projects last year on the interior with the Coleman twins and CTJ's favorite Jagson Christian, so I thought we might devote more than just 1 spot to the interior this cycle and maybe go big game hunting.
  9. Fong with a few Texas updates Still battling for five-star running back Alabama is trending heavy on the On3 RPM including my prediction for five-star running back Ezavier Crowell. The intel continued to favor the Crimson Tide into Tuesday night. With that being written, sources around Austin remain optimistic about where they stand with Crowell. Fresh off beating Oregon for five-star defensive lineman Richard Wesley, now Sarkisian and company are on the gas to do the same with Alabama and Crowell. While my pick is on Alabama, nobody should be stunned about Texas winning any recruiting battles on decision day. Texas working towards an elite offensive line haul This position has always been a priority for Sarkisian since landing in Austin and thus far in 2026 they have pledges from four-star offensive tackle Max Wright and interior offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson. Moving forward you have the two elite in-state targets in five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo and the nation’s No. 2 interior offensive lineman John Turntine. Confidence remains high around UT that both land in Austin. Ojo is also looking at Ohio State while Turntine’s favorites include Stanford, Texas A&M and Michigan. The Cardinal and Wolverines look like the biggest challengers. Beyond those two, Texas is all in on On300 offensive tackle Malakai Lee. I believe they’re battling Michigan. The Wolverines have been a long-time front-runner. The Longhorns have been closing the gap. Defensive line notes Sounds like Texas had a great visit over the weekend with four-star edge rusher Trenton Henderson. Florida and LSU had the inside track with the Gators on the On3 RPM favorite coming in. On3 RPM remains on Texas for four-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil. I still like my prediction for Jamarion Carlton as well. Don’t rule out Texas for four-star defensive lineman Damari Simeon. New Longhorns On3 RPM Joined Inside Texas’s Eric Nahlin in predictiong four-star linebacker Kosi Okpala to the Longhorns. Peach State Buzz I get the sense following this past weekend’s official visit, folks that spent time with five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson see it coming down to Georgia, Oregon and Texas. He’s still working through his process but the Longhorns continue to give him a lot to think about. The Longhorns continue to battle Alabama for five-star linebacker/edge Xavier Griffin heading into his weekend decision. I’d still lean Crimson Tide today but Texas values Griffin as much as any prospect they’re recruiting.
  10. Chamberlain to the portal. Interesting but I guess he was on the outside looking in for consistent AB’s. Freeman has catcher experience and Courville (incoming freshman) has some potential but you probably need to add someone else.
  11. Spencer had arm problems at Indiana State. It's part of the reason he wasn't drafted. I don't think our arm injuries are any more frequent than most other programs. We just focus on us so it seems like it. When you carry 20 pitchers on a roster odds are a guy or two will go down every year unfortunately. Just the way it is in the sport. It just always seems to be an important guy for us (Witt, Mercer, Spencer, etc.) instead of the middle reliever who was only set to get 20 innings.
  12. I think it's interesting Gerry keeps saying we are quietly in a good spot for Damari Simeon with his announcement on Friday and pretty much every other 9.95 site is barely mentioning him.
  13. Nahlin with a not great DB update Like always, with decision season comes twists and turns. Currently, defensive back recruiting is seeing the most shifts. After talking to as many people as we can possibly think of, here’s the latest we’re hearing. It’s not great. DB Chace Calicut: Georgia does lead at this point. Bulldogs are pitching cornerback while Texas is pitching safety with the ability to move around. There might be another smart angle Georgia is playing as well with a person of influence. Calicut announces June 27 so the clock is ticking. CB Samari Matthews: Our South Carolina site has growing optimism on the North Carolina cornerback. When Wiltfong and Simmons put in RPM’s for Texas I texted the group “I wanted to do the same but hadn’t heard anything new from his SCar visit.” I’m not liking what I’m hearing of late. That visit shook things up for sure. Matthews announces July 11. There is time but Shane Beamer, yes Shane Beamer, has reversed momentum. I wouldn’t put in a pick for South Carolina yet but I’m nowhere close to doing it for Texas. CB Davon Benjamin: Each miss Oregon has make them more focused on not losing Benjamin and they’ve had quite a few misses. I think Texas has recruited him better since the spring and he feels like it’s a great place to be developed but Oregon is being aggressive. Benjamin has no known decision date. This is a two team race between Texas and Oregon. We had years and years to get to learn how Terry Jospeh operates. Jospeh’s approach was patient, methodical, and unflinching. If he lost a recruit he just worked even harder to ultimately sign him. He never panicked to take low hanging fruit. More often than not, that approach worked out. Hopefully Mark Orphey can regain momentum in these recruitments, but if not, as Joseph routinely demonstrated, it ain’t over til it’s over.
  14. Harrison was a top 5 starting pitcher in SEC play in terms of ERA (3.51). Started all 10 conference weekends and allowed more than 3 earned runs just 1 time. His stuff may not be top-end but he was pretty much the definition of consistency. Him coming back to set the floor in the rotation would be a big deal.
  15. He was one of the few hitters who seemed to get better as the year went on. .984 OPS with 12 homers for a true sophomore is not too bad. Players are allowed to improve and my guess is at least 1 of these transfer hitters is going to struggle to adjust and we will need someone else to step up. Just the way it goes.
  16. Wiltfong just put in a prediction for Samari Matthews to Texas
  17. They are confident in getting Harrison back. No idea on Ruger.
  18. Don't know much about some of them but Rummel, Cozart, McKernan, Mitchell and Crossland are all on draft radars and would likely be day 1 contributors.
  19. Needs to throw harder than 86 and probably miss more bats (23 strikeouts in 40 innings against the midweek competition he was facing is not great) if he wants to factor into the conversation on the weekends.
  20. I’ve never heard of that theory but I’m assuming it has something to do with wanting your 9 hole to be able to set the table for the top of the order?
  21. I’m pretty meh on Becerra but I guess it’s better than rolling the dice on moving Rodriguez or Mendoza over to SS. Someone has to hit 9th in the order.
  22. No, was just late to the party in the earlier discussion about who the 4 silents might be and was surprised I didn't see his name mentioned yet.
  23. I thought Samari Matthews might be one of the hi's with the percentages Gerry had on him last week
