  1. Alex Dunlap with some practice notes from today
  2. Interesting post from the OU on3 board regarding Kruel: Nagy loves Kruel and has called him a 5 star publicly at many of his community engagement events. I was present when he used him as an example of a kid they are willing to pay up for. This would go down as a tough loss if he chooses to go elsewhere.
  3. More injuries for OU (from their ON3 site)
  4. That state of the DL reminds me a lot of how we as Texas fans probably feel about our OL. Quite a few older guys who have been around a while but don't have a lot of on-field production. Adding Atkinson from UNC was a solid pickup, but I remember someone noting a while back that half his sack production last year came in one game against Florida State.
  5. Taking only 3 in that class was an unnecessary risk, especially following a developmental class in 2023 where they took Payton Kirkland as the second tackle take and the odds that kid would actually stick around to develop were always around 0%.
  6. I think it’s been mentioned by some 9.95ers he might be a year away but the staff is still high on him. Same with Kibble.
  7. Practice notes from today (IT)
  8. And he was a guard all the way, right? Wouldn't have helped out on the tackle depth front. This is looking about 100 steps ahead, but we could be facing a similar situation next year with replacing a bunch of guys with Hutson and Campbell out of eligibility and Goosby potentially being a draft guy with a strong season. It would be great if Brooks, Kibble, Chatman and Cruz all flashed during the 3-week stretch in September after Ohio State, when they should be getting a healthy amount of second-half snaps.
  9. I've mentioned it before, but we are in such an odd roster cycle along the OL. Hutson, Goosby, Neto, Cojoe, Chatman, Robertson and Campbell are all in at least their 3rd year in the program, but a handful of them are pretty much complete unknowns. I wonder if Neto or Baker (or Cojoe) would have bounced to the portal if the staff brought in another proven player at guard or tackle. That trade-off may have helped us in the short run, but we would still be facing the same depth questions we have today. The 2022 OL class was awesome, but choosing to only take 3 true tackles (Goosby, Payton Kirkland and Baker) in the 2023 and 2024 classes is hurting us badly right now. Chatman and Cojoe felt like coinflips to stick at tackle if everything went right with their development. It was pretty well known heading into the 2023 season that Banks was going to be 3-and-done, Agbo was going to struggle to ever get on the field here, and Williams was a promising wildcard with the potential to be a 3-year player. That should have increased the urgency to get another tackle or two in the pipeline in the 24/25 classes. I don't think many programs are walking around with amazing tackle depth in the era we are in, but we do feel a guy or two thinner than we should be, and I would probably say that even if Cojoe were healthy.
  10. We potentially win the conference last year with a good punter. It isn’t sexy but with how good we think our defense is going to be, it matters.
  11. Some practice notes from Suchomel on OB
  12. I noticed in that picture the Texas football account posted on social media last night that whoever was at QB was under center. I recall us doing a little of it last year in the two games Manning started and we had some chunk runs (obviously the competition level wasn’t great). Also remember a redzone TD throw to Blue that came from an under center play.
  13. Graceson Littleton was running first team at nickel, per IT. Taaffe and McDonald at safety.
  14. Excited to see if this is the year the light finally comes on for Naashon Hughes and Kirk Johnson. The 10-time defending fall camp MVPs.
  15. I don't say this to excuse some of those performances because they were poor, but there is some game context that needs to be applied to a few of those situations. Arkansas- Our second half drives went FG, Punt, TD, ran out the clock to end the game. Very limited possessions. A&M- We had 190 second-half yards and moved the ball plenty. Two Ewers brain farts prevented a 31-0 laugher. Kentucky- We barely touched the ball in the second half until our final few drives. 3 play punt, 2 play Blue fumble, 3 play Ewers pick 6. Then we drove 49 yards and Auburn missed a field goal, and the final 15-play drive all runs for 86 yards and a TD. And against ASU our final 4 drives in regulation went TD, Ewers brain fart INT, missed FG and missed FG. And we again barely touched the ball til the 4th quarter because we had that 1 play safety and ASU held the ball for 13 minutes in the 3rd quarter. Although the offense was discombobulated for long stretches in that one, so I wouldn't put it in the same category as the other ones.
  16. Drives ending in kicks from 40+ yards aren't stalling out in the red zone. I can think of several end-of-half/end-of-game kicks (OU, A&M, ASU come to mind) where the offense did more than enough to get him in range. @MirrOlure beat me to it as I was typing
  17. Listening back to the interviews on the LHN app and Banks wasn't sugarcoating much in the kicking game. Paraphrasing a bit, but he basically said: "We were looking for leg talent. Let's face it, the kicks that Bert was missing, for the most part, were over 45 yards. We need to be able to make kicks between that 45-55 yard range and that was not something Bert was strong at."
  18. That section about Cornerback reads like a Jay Valai masterclass. Year 4 and your best corner is a 5'9 kid you only took because his brother was already on the team.
  19. Seems about right, but damn the lineup on paper looked a whole lot better a few weeks ago. Overall power is probably going to tick down from last year, but I think we should be a little more athletic and hopefully more consistent 1 through 9 in the order. -Robbins is going to be given every chance to take the CF job while Jonah is playing football. -I wonder if Early will be given some OF reps in the fall because we are mighty thin out there without Freeman and Moroknek factoring in anymore. Schloss is going to want to cram in as many good left-handed bats as possible against righty starters (Larson, Rodriguez, Livingston, Early, Williams) -Rodriguez at 3B and Borba at 1B is how I would wager it shaking out right now. I think Rodriguez in the OF is a last resort and while he would probably do it for the team, making him a primary DH doesn't seem like something the staff wants to do with a guy who hopes to get drafted pretty high in a couple of years. They want to do everything they can to find him a home in the field.
  20. Correct, Coleman at Auburn came to mind too. Some interesting roster cycles for sure. There are also some draft-eligible transfers like Singleton, Branch, Concepcion, Barion Brown and Nic Anderson who could play their way into high draft picks or put up a dud of a season. Feels like there is a lot of volatility with the skill guys this year.
  21. Looking through some draft lists for 2026 and beginning to realize that there isn't a lot of slam-dunk first-round skill position talent in the SEC this year. Even with overall QB play looking better than last year across the league, this might be a year where defense is king. Most of the guys being mocked in the first round (non-QBs) are dudes like Ant Hill (LB), Kadyn Proctor (OT), Keldric Faulk (DT), Jermod McCoy (CB), LT Overton (DT), CJ Allen (LB), Jake Slaughter (OL), etc. I found that interesting because I think there are some who are nervous with some of our inexperience and/or unknowns at the skill positions, but it appears it might just be a theme in the league overall.
