I think I might have an underlying problem with the water circulation system.  I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas to help me troubleshoot this problem.

As described in the post above, my 20 year old DE filter shell recently burst when I was running the pump.  I can only assume that the pressure spiked at some point as I didn't witness the malfunction.

Yesterday, I reassembled the DE filter with a new shell, The water level in the pool was low (well below the level where the skimmer baskets could draw water).  I ran the pump sucking water just from the main drain at the bottom of the deep end with no DE powder in the system.  I just needed to circulate water so I could add some chlorine to the system.  I also started to refill the pool.  After getting air out of the pipes, the system showed normal pressure.

Some hour or two later, the water level in the pool had reached normal level and I shut to the pump off and opened up the intakes for the skimmer baskets (the skimmer baskets were emptied/clean).  I restarted the pump and had to clear air from the pipes again.  After that, the system appeared to be running normally.  I checked on the pool a couple hours later and noticed that the water on the spa spillway into the pool was just trickling.  I then checked the pressure valve on the DE filter and the pressure was running high.  I shut off the pump, did a backwash for about 30 seconds, and then restarted the pump and the water pressure was once again at normal pressure.  An hour or so later, the spa spillway was once again trickling and water pressure was high.

Any ideas what issue might causing the water pressure to spike as circulation/flow gets restricted over a short period of time from normal operation?  The issue appears to be mitigated for a short period of time (maybe an hour) by running a backwash for ~10 seconds.

If still no DE, then this is why. You're not supposed to run without DE.  The grids just clog up faster, and can even become damaged.  This article even says, it will be high pressure within an hour as you descibed:

Anyone try the Dreaming in Spanish program?

I subscribe  to Dreaming Spanish and listen to it while I’m doing cardio. I like it a lot but it’s sometimes a lot harder without the video context.

Dreaming Spanish and Español con Juan are probably my two favorites.

I'm not learning much Spanish but I'm becoming more flexible.

I had to drive around and do some errands yesterday, and manually tuned into 101.9 to see how the signal was near the domain.  tried 3 diff times over 90 mins to listen

Its signal strength was actually WORSE than the 104.9 signal.

Which tells me the only way to listen to these guys now is either the app, or on AM 1260.

I get nothing but static on both 101.9 and 1260 (SW Austin).

We had some czechoslovakian descended neighbors in the 80s.  And the Missus would make fruit kolaches regularly to the point we started buying them from her.  In Houston, at Shipley's, we called them pigs-in-a-blanket or maybe it was kolaches.  Who can remember?  But it wasn't until later in my teens that I heard the term kolaches used to refer to pigs.

Agree.  I'm from a small town that has an annual Kolache Fest, Kolaches are fruit, and the sausage ones are pig in the blankets.

I just realized last weekend that there’s no Astros broadcast in Austin.  Wtf.

Opportunity for the new Horn!  I just go to 790am website on phone.  Also can find the same on iHeartRadio app.  It sure cuts in and out a lot while driving though.

Even considering all of that, they still probably could’ve kept it going but they lost the UT contract, so that’s that. No way to keep that turd afloat without that contract. I have no insight into whether UT didn’t renew because of all of the above or just got better terms from the iHeartradio group, but either way, it’s done. I expect E Hogan and Craig Way to end up over there, although that’s not based on any inside info yet, not like anyone would actually give a shit about that palace intrigue at this point.

Who will have the UT games...102.7?  They're Waterloo Media or are they owned by iHeart?

Ward / Clements and Elling look to be the only locals now on 102.7.  It will be interesting to see who makes the jump from the Horn. Hogan and Babers are the only ones who deserve consideration. The rest of that crew on the station really is bad.

No, Surly's favorite Chip Brown is on during lunch time.

    Bump.

    We're back baby!

For the last year, I've been searching for "Stranger Things Season 5", with very disappointing results.  I think it's supposed to air late in 2024.  Anyway, I completely forgot that there were two more episodes to Season 4.  They're out now.  I think one is 1.5 hours; the other 2.

Eh, those 2 episodes also came out last year.  But, enjoy!

  8. We left the island at 6pm yesterday and it was about an added 15 mins of traffic. Going to the island at that time was really bad but all cleared up by 8:00 when we came back.

Enjoying the quiet beach while rest of the family is still sleeping.

  9. 2 years ago we were on N Padre and Scuttlebutt's had the Covid. Now I find out it's been closed due to fire.  Need an alternative for family of 6 (all 15+), and after a day at the beach, outside/patio seating is not preferred.  Nothing else really fits the bill for a larger indoor place, which is why we went to Scuttlebutt's in the past!  Port A I imagine is crowded...may have to go to Corpus.

  10. Tried to go to Valentina's Sunday at 11:30. The line was insane wrapped around the inside perimeter, and they were hanging the "sold out of brisket" sign already.  So much for a soft opening.  Awesome space, though, hope it works out for him and he's able to scale up with the same quality.  Well and people continue to visit one the new wears off.
