- Matchup announced
- Initial reactions range from "Texas slaughters them" to "Texas wins comfortably"
- Talking heads start saying "well actually..." to position themselves as contrarian and present a dissenting opinion as part of the natural news cycle
- More talking heads start parroting the possibility of an upset
- Prominent talking heads give airtime and credence to the idea that the plucky underdog actually is pretty damn good and identify Texas as a team vulnerable to an upset
- Fans of both teams start buying the media version of reality. Texas fans start shitting themselves in fear, underdog fans start believing they actually have a chance
- Gameday arrives, Texas wins by 2 touchdowns and covers.

This is one I want to watch.
Oldest’s fiancée joined the Academy this year (following a successful run through last year’s festivals) so we are going to watch this and a few more tonight while they are visiting for New Year’s. (They give members an App to watch all the potential nominees).
That’s awesome. Seems obvious, but I’d suggest making your setting as theater-like as possible for this one, particularly with the audio. The score was tremendous.

What other perspective is there? CDC isn't hiring mack fucking brown.
The other perspective is that giving a guy a megaphone who we know to be completely focused on his own legacy to the detriment of the UT football program (see, his behavior at the time of his exit), is not good. The second things aren’t perfect in Sark’s program, you can count on Mack Brown to do everything in his power to twist the knife.
I’m fine with the one off interview. Bobby is good people and needs to make money. And I would be fine honoring Mack at half time next year (maybe with the entire 05 team) on the 20th anniversary. But anything that gives him a permanent microphone is a bad idea (again, from the program’s perspective, not a clicks perspective).

What the fuck are all of you going on about with Mack being in any official capacity involved with UT athletics?
Mack is a media monster. This is a media play, which is why the interview was great and why him coming back is good.
I don't give a shit about all the Mack hate, but some of you are acting like there's not money to be made and a complete void to be filled with Texas media that LHN left and Bobby and his team have somewhat filled. Mack isn't an idiot, he could ask anyone he wanted on a show and bullshit for an hour or 2 a day and focus on CFB centered around Texas and 200k+ daily listeners would tune in automatically.
He's not invited to come do AMA on surly or to be a regular podcast guest or anything else, but to say that it's net negative to have a guy who's an eyeball and earhole magnet come back and home base in Austin is a completely naive and moronic take.
It’s not a net negative for someone trying to generate revenue with engagement, but most of us aren’t viewing it from that perspective.

Was doing some more digging last night. Molokai really looks like it would be a little rustic but pretty stunning nature wise. So now I'm just trying to figure out if I fly in and out of Oahu and stick the big island in the middle or stick Molokai in the middle. If we do Oahu essentially twice, we may stay in two different parts of the island
I did Oahu and Big Island with in laws a few years ago. Maybe I did it wrong, but Oahu wasn’t really for me (outside of one awesome day hanging out in Waimea Bay). Big Island was awesome. I would have liked to have paired it with a different island for the more beachy/chill part of the trip.We flew from NYC to Honolulu and then immediately got on a 15 minute flight to big island. Very easy.

Traveled to many places all over the world but feeling a little lost. Don't need to do super touristy stuff but am big on nature and beaches, hiking, etc. don't really need glitz and trying to get my wife maybe used to Hawaii being more laid back than what she might like... like I'm definitely NOT booking some luxury resort. Not happening. Ideas? This will not be a luxury trip.
In Oahu we stayed at a four seasons in Ko Olina. It was beautiful but just a little too suburban family vacation for my personal taste.
In Big Island, we shared a rented house I think was pretty reasonable.
Rented a 4WD truck through Turo and drove to the top of Mauna Kea at sunset. That was awesome. Thought I was going to run out of gas going down that mountain in first gear.
Did a cliff jump into the ocean at the southern most point on the island. Terrific
Then used the truck to get to Waipi’o Black Sand Beach, which was also fun.
Walked around the volcano national park, which was just ok. Then did a helicopter tour that went over the volcano, and that was much cooler from a visual perspective. There were some more challenging hikes on my list I just didn’t have time to do.
Did the night manta ray thing with the fam. It was pretty cool.
Lot’s of good ceviche/poke etc at stands along the side of the road. -

Yes, because Mack’s skin is so thin it’s as transparent as cling wrap.
He’s the second most successful coach in our program’s history, and for that I’ll always thank him. But he’s a petty old man that needs to have zero involvement with this program absent an honorary applause at a random half time.
And, if he insists on playing his timeless woe is me card, guys like Bobby shouldn’t give him a platform, no matter the clicks.

Do any of you guys know bear country? Maybe the builder would know, but I'm wondering what is a problem and what isn't a problem. I've heard trash is a problem, but if you put the trash in the garage, I've heard about cases like:
Still, I think the garage is the answer. I don't have any clue on when people put trash out for pickup or if there is pickup.
And we are doing an addition next year (so I'll probably know the answer by then, but if you guys know)... Is an outdoor dining area possible? Is a grill in a dining area like below possible? Currently, there is induction cooking inside. I don't know much about grilling inside though and I know nothing about how to do it with induction heat. Shit, maybe I should have bought a house in the Caribbean first.
Now does all this depend on how big of a bear problem exists? Originally, we purchased a lot near Sandpoint, ID and there isn't much of a bear problem there. Then we were going to buy near Yellowstone, but the wife wanted to be near a lake. Finally, we settled on the west side of Flathead lake in Montana. The east side of the lake is closer to Glacier and most of the mountains so it definitely has more bears. But there are bears on both sides and we are a little higher up in elevation for the views and on 10 acres so it is somewhat rural. Hopefully, the views make it all worthwhile.
And I now we all know the rationale for your defense of the American health care system in the other thread!
I kid, I kid

Who is insulting Arch. I am calling it how it is. Listen to you all. Dude is in the quarters of the CFP and y'all are ready to jettison this dude into the sun no matter the outcome of this season because you think the guy behind him is better than he is with no proof of that other than two games vs the two worst opponents on our schedule.
Colt threw 18 interceptions in 2007 and hadn't done anything great up until then. Ewers threw 6 picks last year, won the big 12, got us into the CFP, and almost the championship game despite us letting the opposing QB throw for 430 yards on us. It's one thing to not be good. Players know when they can't play and accept their lot in life for the most part. But to already be the 3rd in almost every category. To have taken your school to two straight conference championship games, and two straight CFPs? That's a shit sandwich for someone who has helped get us back on the mountain top.
In my lifetime the most hated QBs on the 40 were Simms, Ewers, and Gilbert in that order. One of these things is not like the other. Ewers is 2-1 vs OU. He threw for 452 and and 358 in his two conference championship appearances. Even last year in the CFP game. He didn't hit the last throw but dude threw for 318 and no picks. Win at a high rate. Beat OU. Get us to conference championships. Ewers has done all three and we still dislike him.
Agree with the overall message of your post, but Gilbert was literally booed off the field. Think you might be underselling that just a bit.

You should really read an entire post before responding to it. Had you done so, you'd see that I ended up not being livid.
Early in the game, it looked like it might be a horse race of scoring. I was okay with it. And there is the whole Auburn thing, another thing I mention in the post you didn't bother to read.
Unfortunately for me, I did read your post. You said “I think the decision this time is mitigated by the poor performance of Auburn. That mitigates the decision, but does not fully justify it.” Auburn is perfect inside 40 this year (9/9 I believe). In fact he hasn’t missed one inside the 40 since September of 2023.
So, you were irrationally angry about going for it, but then you convinced yourself it wasn’t so bad for irrational reasons. I feel like I’m arguing with my wife.

I was livid when Sark chose to go for it. It gives the other side a chance for celebration and rejuvenation. The UH game is the perfect example. There are, of course, other examples in Sark's tenure and Herman's.
I think the decision this time is mitigated by the poor performance of Auburn. That mitigates the decision, but does not fully justify it.
Sometimes, I think head coaches get too tied up in the math of the score. Going for it yesterday may have been the best chance to score, but the risk was the victory the other team may get when they are on the ropes. Missing a field goal is a relief to the other side rather than a victory.
I still think Sark should have kicked, but this decision wasn't as stupid as other times. I still think Sark is learning. He went with the running game yesterday. He blamed himself for not doing so more often in the past.
I admire cold self-assessment in anyone. It's not easy when the world is celebrating your success. I really like our coach.
Were you similarly livid when Sark went for it on the first drive from essentially the same spot and we scored 7?

Kick the FG in the 1st half . Take points. Learn from it dammit. Hook’em
9 hours ago, GreenspointTexas said:His 4th down plays are either great, or an abomination
he needs to learn to take the points more often, specially in the cfp
Again, we went for it on 4th twice in the 1st half from nearly the same spot. We converted the first and got 7. We missed the second. Had we just kicked field goals both times, we would only have 6.
I get it, math can be frustrating when you are an emotional person.

I agree. I sent this text to a low to low-intermediate football fan. Yes a girl.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but our playbook has been very simplified since that first loss to Georgia. Head coaches simplify playbooks when they lose confidence in their quarterback. It’s simplified in order to statistically limit errors by the quarterback. That’s what all the short to the corner passes are. High percentage completions that give the struggling quarterback confidence, but gets only minimal gain.
I remember early in season we were throwing deeper. We had a lot more explosive plays (plays that go for 25 yards or more). We don’t have many of those. anymore.
Sark has lost confidence in Ewers, hence the few times he lets him throw an intermediate route, the idiot throws an interception. So back to the bubble screens. Rely fully on running game.
It’s all very frustrating. We’ll get close this year but won’t win it all. Next year should be our greatest shot
Notice the “should”.
But it is going to get worse. Because as I’ve mentioned 3 million times, Ewers is going to come back next year. But the death knell is that Sark is going to throw all his support to this kid.
And as I write this he throws a shit ball.
Woah, I’ll bet ya she wrote back tldr

We’ve just got to be better coming out of halftime. 5 straight games without a 3rd quarter touchdown. Quinn was 6/10 for 61 yards in the second half after a good first half. It just never feels like the offensive can consistently move the ball through the air in its current state. Maybe a healthy Bond changes things, but I don’t know. We will need to run the ball extremely well in every game going forward to win.
Maybe losing 2 starting offensive linemen and a starting running back had a little bit to do with that today

Defense was fine. Cade was playing out of his mind, as were their receivers. . Only other team that can do that is Oregon.
edit: main concern was we weren’t getting any pressure for awhile there. Maybe got top vanilla.
Was getting flashbacks to Washington a few times in the second half. Just absolute dimes and great catches into pretty good coverage.

Quinn made the throw he needed to make and the oline took over. Also great vision by Gibson.
I think he missed like one throw all day, to Golden on the 4th down. The biggest hindrance to our offense was losing two offensive lineman and our starting running back.

1. They expanded the playoff.
2. The other 3 teams lost their coaches and 2 replaced top 10 draft picks at QB.
Happy to be in the playoffs but this isn’t the flex everyone keeps using it as.
We are the third ranked team. Would have made it in even without the expansion.
