  1. I don’t know how this thread devolved into a comparison of this 4-0 team that struggled against Rice and Wyoming to a few of the top 10 teams in Texas history.

Comparing this team to the 08 or 09 teams is a fantasy at this point. The 09 team had 2 of the top 5 offensive players in college football, and the second best defensive player in college football. 11 of the primary 12 defenders on that team defense were drafted. The offensive line was ass, sure, but having the best quarterback in college football does wonders for your offense. As an aside, would love to see what Sark could do with Goodwin.

Even mentioning this team in the same breath as 05 is so stupid it doesn’t even deserve a response.

21 - Florida (I think Florida is a trash team with Charlie Strong 2.0 as a coach, and they will be lucky to finish 6-6. But the win over Tenn at this point in this season is a good win)

    22 - Colorado (TCU; Nebraska)

    23 - Louisville (G Tech, Indiana, BC)

    24 - Maryland (MSU, UVA)

25 - Michigan (they won't play an above average team until November 11. An absolute fucking joke that they will be the consensus #2 until that time. I will keep moving them down as other 1 loss teams get good wins).

They always do this to themselves.

When qb has that new qb smell, he's a legend. As soon as the mistakes start up they immediately give up on them.

This Saturday will be interesting as Auburn's defense is legitimately good.

I asked my Auburn buddy if he thought they had a chance this weekend. His response was that they probably don't have the dudes this year, but "With Jimbo on their sideline, there's always a chance."

  4. I can’t believe I’m participating in this off-season bait thread, but Sam is in his own universe compared to the other guys on this list.  Ewers obviously has the talent and supporting cast to wreck shop this season, but we’ll see. The other guys aren’t even worth wasting keyboard strokes on, except Case McCoy will always be a legend.

So what are you complaining about then? There was an in-state 5-star WR that was never coming here, so Texas went out of state to land one. That sounds good to me.

He’s complaining about this board attacking a 5 star we would welcome with open arms, just because Gerry Hamilton and others have implied he strung along our coaches behind the scenes.

But he’s fighting a losing battle. Nobody sniffs their own farts more than recruiting boards. Tigerdroppings thinks Colin Simmons is an asshole, texags thinks Anthony Hill is an asshole, surlyhorns thinks Micah Hudson is an asshole, some hillbilly in Auburn thinks some other hillbilly going to Alabama is an asshole, and the beat goes on.

I had to click on this thread out of curiosity since it keeps popping up.

    The WR discussion. Jesus.

    I Dont Arrested Development GIF

Irrespective of personal preferences, history is very likely to consider Worthy as a top 3 WR of all time at Texas. He drops a lot of passes. So did Terrell Owens. The guy has elite skills and gifts and he'll wind up with over 30 tds in his time here. He's already 3rd on the all-time list. He's likely to finish in the top 5 in yardage. All of that in 3 years and then he'll be a first round draft pick. Good lord.

You are probably right from a production perspective, and ultimately that’s all that matters. But give me Duvernay with 3 years of Sark all day every day.

As a combo, I’ll take Beck and Humphrey over Sanders and Whitt. Sanders can be a liability in the run game. Beck was knocking fools down and is still in the NFL. And Humphrey was an elite slot and able blocker there.

And regarding our current group of receivers, I’ll take the 2018 group. They were reliable and pretty dominant. They got open, caught balls, and put up big numbers. In the Tom Herman passing game and with Ehlinger at QB.

And although 2018 Duvernay was not yet the 2019 version, Worthy has a long way to go to approach elite level where he consistently gets open, has some sort of catch radius, and holds onto the ball when he does track passes. He’ll be a slot receiver in the NFL. If he doesnt get more consistent and prove himself, he’ll be a Day 2 pick.

While they came through last week, it was another game where Texas receivers were outplayed by their counterparts. Thats been pretty consistent against decent competition since Duvernay left.

I don’t think your receiver take is that crazy (Duvernay in particular), but I can’t fuck with your tight end take. JT is our best tight end since at least Jermichael.

No idea what Urban makes at Fox or what he's still being paid by jorts, but I could see aggy trying to money whip him if they come up with the scratch to shitcan Jimbo. I seriously don't know who they would go for now that their expectations are our in the sky high. They're too dumb to go after a coach like Leopold and his ilk, but may be forced to for financial reasons.

At least with Urbs they could crow about winning a head to head recruiting battle with tee yew...a few years removed.

I could actually see the A&M/Urban marriage. It will be a shitstorm for any self-aware fan base and program to hire Urban after the way things went down in Jacksonville. Of course A&M has no problem with being the laughing stock of college football.

  11. I graduated high school in 2006, and although I watched games like the Rose Bowl rooting for my future school, I wasn't really a huge fan at the time (dad went to Tech, mom was a 2% aggy).  So, I'll omit everything before I got to UT.

    1. 2008 OU - The game that kick started the obsession (so I can blame this game for an extreme amount of heartbreak, money spent, and time wasted over the past 15 years).

    2. 2023 Alabama - I reserve the right to bump this down if we finish this season 8-4 or worse (but see 5 below).

    3. 2009 Big 12 Championship Game - in retrospect that season was kind of a slog without a ton of excitement. This game was grueling to endure, sure, but pure jubilation/relief when the kick went through.

    4. Last aggy game.

    5. 2016 Notre Dame - fuck it, I remember thinking we were in fact back. What a fucking idiot.

Other nominees include 49-0, 2018 OU, 2019 Sugar Bowl, 2008 Missouri, 2009 Tech.

From what I've inferred, Muhammad plays the same position as Ainias Smith so that's why he's not getting many reps.

This is such an indictment of their coaching staff. I don't care what position Muhammad plays. You find a way to get him on the field. I thought he was their best WR last year.

The classic Tom Herman approach to receivers. Only the slot receiver is allowed to catch passes, and only one guy per year is allowed to play in the slot.

I could defend an argument that OU has the worst staff in the Big 12. That’s another reason I think Texas will beat the shit out of them. Those coaches quit last year in the RRS. I watched it and talked about it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that.

The look on Venables face in that game was very similar to the (in)famous gif of Charlie Strong. Just totally fucking helpless. That day was (borderline) erotic.

That Chuck Landon fucker is straight up being a petty bitch. There is no defense in having Bama above Texas as of today.

I could be wrong, but I suspect it was a mistake (an egregious, vote-revoking level of mistake). He liked some tweets Saturday night (I can't believe I took the effort to look at this) to the effect that our game wasn't an upset and that Texas is clearly a better team than Alabama.
