    I mean....

I get it.  OSU was picked 7th and are in the champ game.  Texas was picked first and finished 1st and in the champ game.

Sark met expectations. Gundy blew them away.

I mean, they aren’t very talented because Gundy is a redneck shit head who ran off a bunch of his good players. Seems like that should factor in.

But happy for the bulletin board material. This team seems to have some of that “and I took that personal” energy, no matter how small the slight.

I think an outright B12 title makes up for the OU loss and qualifies this year as a categorical success, and you’re playing with house money in a bowl or CFP.

If we win on Saturday, it will be our third most successful season in about 30 years (acknowledging our 08 team got fucked, but it is what it is).

This is actually debatable though, Texas going in over Oregon is not. That was my point earlier in the thread.

It’s been explained a million times, but why the hell not. Texas, Michigan, Alabama, Oregon and Louisville win.

Michigan is locked. The committee thinks Alabama and Georgia are 2 of the best 4 (taking into account Georgia’s incredible 3 year run, as you’ve pointed out), so they want to find a way to put in both. They can’t get over putting Bama over Texas given head to head. So they justify Texas jumping Oregon by our win over Alabama looking that much better by virtue of Alabama beating Georgia. Michigan, Texas, Alabama and Georgia go in, Oregon gets fucked.

It’s unlikely (and Georgia going in would be unprecedented (albeit a small sample size)), but it’s not 0%. The reality is that the committee can do whatever the fuck they want and find justification for it.

Average rent in Manhattan is above 4700 a month, for about 703 sq ft.  You can find small walkups for less than that, but not in the best neighborhoods.  And given subway and bus delays, being close in is important.

Since we had our first kid earlier this year, my folks have been trying to find a studio in an elevator building with reasonable access to the West Village/surrounding area for $500K or so to replace their hotel visits. Pretty fucking tough sledding so far.

We've had the 2 easiest schedules in UCLA history the last 2 seasons.  The entire program is trending down.  Our recruiting class is ranked in the 50's with zero 4 or 5 stars.  Chip doesn't recruit for shit.  And he doesn't engage the BMDs at all.  As a result, the NIL collectives are shit.  And 7-5 this year with the schedule we had, with losses to ASU and Cal, is criminal.  So no, not aggy-ing.  The universal feeling among everyone outside of the AD is he needs to go.

So spend $10 million or so on buy outs just so you can find another coach that will in all likelihood get you roughly the same results, so that you can do this entire song and dance again in 5 years.  College football at its finest.

You are experiencing a bad case of Aggy-itis.
Chip’s gone 8-4, 9-4 and 7-5 in the last 3 years, which is like, exactly what you should expect as a UCLA fan? You want to waste money on a bunch of buy outs and fly a banner so you can go find another coach to build you up to an 8 win season?

In the NIL era, it has become blatantly obvious that there are certain players that are looking for nothing more than the highest offer, and they could not possibly give any less fucks about who the head coach is, who the position coach is, what restaurants are available in the town, how many games they will win, or academics.  The '22 aggie class made this readily apparent. Trying to apply recruiting logic from five years ago no longer works.

Elite recruits were flipping/committing to Charlie Strong (I think the most comparable recent coach to Napier) even when it was abundantly clear that Strong was a complete disaster. Sometimes teenagers don't make logical decisions.

If Garth Brooks hadn't ruined country music, I'm fairly certain that Alan Jackson would have. That motherfucker put out some of the dumbest, cheesiest, sappiest shit in the '90's. He was an automatic channel changer for me when his maudlin crap would come on.

Gone Country - possibly the most cynical money grab in modern country music history, and that's saying something

Remember When - fuck off and I despise the notion that this song probably got you laid

Don't Rock the Jukebox - you aren't rocking a fucking thing, asshole

Dallas - how I wish your ass had stayed in Tennessee and off the radio, dickwad

Here in the Real World - Here in the real world, you're ruining a music genre. Just brutally murdering it.

Midnight In Montgomery - Hank Williams rolls over in his grave every time some asshat leverages his talent and legend to sell a fucking record.

Summertime Blues - There is a cure, it's avoiding your bullshit at all costs.

Livin' On Love - hell is a very loud place with this song blaring, I think

Tall, Tall Trees - that you should have been strung up to

Little Bitty - with what you did to country music, this is the size of your soul

Pop a Top - I like to see your top get popped

The list goes on. That guy can go fuck himself and the rest of you doing word plays with his trash can fuck off with him.

Jeez, seems like you need a stiff drink. Go ahead, It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.

Maybe, but why would anyone assume they'd win @Florida, @South Carlina, @Miss State, or @ Auburn, when they lost to ALL of those teams in 2022, the last time they played all but Florida on the road?

Not counting FCS scrubs, the only "likely" win on their entire schedule, is Arkansas, because for some reason they just flat out own the pigs.

Billy Napier is a Charlie Strong-level disaster of a head coach, so I include Florida in the Arkansas territory assuming they retain him. Losing to Billy Napier should be a for cause fireable event for any coach.

I don't think they'll go 0-4 against LSU, Missouri, ND and Texas, and I don't think they'll go 4-0 against the teams you mention. But 8-4 should be very manageable absent a complete roster implosion or total failure of coaching. Both of which could of course happen, since it's A&M we're talking about.

I don't think so.  When they fired Jimbo, plenty of Texas fans said they thought that Elko and Traylor would be obvious choices as a "good fit" but that the ags would somehow screw that up and do something different and stupid.  And, well, they did.

But ultimately they ended up with one of the coaches that folks on here predicted weeks ago.

Just because he's a decent coach and a "good fit" doesn't mean anyone in Austin is drinking any koolaid.  This is a guy who will consistently field teams that Sarkisian will have no problem dismantling and dismembering.  The ags' 8-4 ceiling probably just dropped to 7-5.  They better make sure there are no App States on future schedules...

I mean, they really should go 8-4 at worst next year. Their schedule is super favorable. No Alabama, Georgia or Ole Miss, and their four toughest games (ND, LSU, Texas and Missouri) are all at home. ND and LSU are relatively down, and although we should be better than A&M on paper, it's worth acknowledging that we have to replace a fuck ton of talent on both sides of the ball next year. If they can't get to 8 wins next year, it's a really bad sign for them.

Oregon can still claim a better win because of recency to the win. Beating an undefeated in the final game with a playoff spot on the line while avenging your lone loss will be viewed as a greater win that Texas beating Bama in week 2 combined with beating 3 loss oSu. You will get the "Bama was a different team when Texas beat them". It will happen. It's not right but that's what will happen. The Pac 12, probably because of this being its final year is getting a lot more credibility as a conference than the Big 12. I simply do not believe Texas will get in if Bama and Oregon both beat undefeated teams. I guess we'll see.

Maybe, but it at least puts us in play. If Georgia wins, that spot is 100% taken and we almost certainly lose out to Oregon. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll find out because I suspect Georgia will win and cover.

Texas can jump Oregon this week in the rankings but it would make no difference if Oregon beats an undefeated Washington on Friday and Texas beats oSu. Oregon would go right back over us as their win is better than ours. FSU losing is our only path. Bama winning doesn't help us.

You are wrong, as has been explained many times. Bama beating Georgia absolutely helps us, although by no means guarantees we get in. It strengthens our win compared to Oregon’s win over Washington (whereas if Bama loses, Oregon can claim both a better win and a better loss compared to us). If Bama, Texas, Oregon and FSU all win, I’m betting Texas gets in. Whether that’s over Oregon or Bama, I’m not sure. If Georgia, FSU and Oregon win, we are toast.

This thread is driving me insane. The whole situation is not that complicated. And yet, I’ll see posters post stupid shit like a one loss Georgia will pass conference champ Texas. That’s the dumbest viewpoint out there.

And then I’ll see a poster make a rationale correct view on Oregon, for example, (will most likely be ahead of Texas but we could pass them if Bama gets in). I’ll start to think, “okay, this poster gets it”. And then the same poster will say something stupid like Ohio St will finish ahead of Texas. It’s maddening.

The ONLY really debatable scenario is whether Bama gets in and Texas doesn’t.

And then, someone drops in and says the obvious, an FSU loss is the best path. No shit Einstein.

Just remember that you are on the football board and it should clear up any confusion. Every scenario is blindingly obvious to anyone with a lukewarm IQ.

  14. Afire on Criterion Channel, from Christian Petzold (his movie Phoenix from about 10 years ago is really excellent, for anyone who hasn’t seen it).

A slow burn (no pun intended), with an exceedingly unlikely lead that is so good at being unlikeable it almost ruined the movie for me until the final 20 mins or so.
