I don't think FCHorn or BoBigRed survived the move from shaggy to Surly. FCHorn may have just changed handles, but don't know.
I did like BoBigRed's recaps, now that you mention it.
BoBigRed/HuskerinKingwood was a good poster.
FCHorn in the PCL forum was great, and I really enjoyed quite a few exchanges with him on that board in the 2012-2013 range. FCHorn in every other forum was bat shit, and the sheer volume of posts made it near unbearable.

Annual reminder that admission standards at UT used to be pretty soft in the Gen X days.

The entire trajectory/ceiling of this team changes during a game against the worst team in our conference. Sometimes college football is cruel. I’ll be pretty happy if we can get to 10 wins now.

Watched last night. Just tremendous. Gladstone stole the show. I thought this was the best DeNiro performance in 25 years. Leo was Leo, although his southern/western/plains accent gets a little cartoonish for me.
I think there is some fat that could have been cut in the middle, but at this point I’m not complaining about more Scorsese.

Have tickets Saturday night at the BK drafthouse for 8pm. Baby sitter booked until 12:30. I love Marty, but really concerned about my ability to stay awake.

Without being being too CR. I enjoy pointing out gayness to people, like the aggy ilk, who have an aversion to it. I have a buddy who, when his son was growing up, would tell me how Jr only hangs around girls. He was so proud of that. Even though it wasn't for the reason he wanted it to be. It was obvious to everyone else. He ignored it. Much like aggy ignores what is going on here. I could care less about it. However, because aggy clutches its pearls at the thought of gayness, and aggy reads this thread like we do Texags, I will continue to point out their behavior.

So I was thinking, Duke probably matches Elko up to something like $7mm/year at this point, and probably up to something like five or six years. Unless he just values the championship upside of the talent you can acquire at A&M and would leave for there for similar money, A&M would have to beat that number both in average per year and overall guaranteed, something like $9mm/year for seven years or something
Of course, Elko could just be happy with the pay raise
That's why it's tough to poach from P5 (now P4) programs that have money, and Duke was once paying Coach K over $12mm/year
Elko would a be good and smart hire, so I assume it won’t happen. If they keep Jimbo one or two more years and Freeze shows signs of life at Auburn, I’d wager they’ll give him a long look. He’s a perfect avatar for their small town, fake, Christian bull shit, and they love crowing about stealing coaches within the SEC.

How much does Tennessee miss Henson Hooker? If Tennessee could actually get a first down…
Not nearly as much as they miss Hendon Hooker.

Even if you totally ignore losing your starting center, cornerback, and safety, and having your All-American tight end clearly limited, I don't really see how this is true.
Plenty of blame to go around, but our players brought their C game, and I put much of the blame for that on them and not the coaches. Stupid penalties, stupid turnovers, awful tackling, shit execution, Jaylon Ford looking like he was drunk as a skunk, AD Mitchell doing whatever the fuck it was AD Mitchell was doing, Jerrin Thompson dropping gifted interceptions, Gbenda blowing coverages, etc. Someone check the security footage at the strip clubs in Dallas, because something was up. If you want to blame all of that on the coaches because the buck stops there, sure, I get that.
And were there questionable decisions end of game? Sure. The running play on 3rd and 9 was somewhat similar to the 3rd and 7 running play on the last Bama drive. It works and everyone loves how tough you are, how you are out-Bama-ing-Bama, the culture has changed, blah blah blah. It doesn't work and you are a fucking turtling pussy who can't manage the clock (and yes, I realize they aren't perfectly comparable). The goal line shit show is much more egregious to me.
I've always been anti-Sark, for a lot of the reasons stated in the OP. And maybe deep down I still am. But his talent accumulation and the way this team looked the first 5 games won me over to some degree. OU brought their A game, we brought our C game and had a few bad breaks, and lost on basically a last second touchdown. It fucking sucks, but if we meet OU again I am willing to bet we win by >7.

Starting center goes out, 2 INTs, multiple stupid penalties, other team’s hair on fire. Still winning baby

I expected the first quarter to be close and us to pull away. Majors is obviously a massive injury, so we’ll see. Hope Catalon can make it back

The outcome for the aggies this weekend is going to have an impact on them, Texas, LSU, OU, and numerous other players. Fisher decided that this game was going to be the event in which he pushed all of his chips on on recruiting, and it looks he and his team started building towards that after Texas beat Bama. He's rallied the money in support due to fear of their program being trapped in The Recruitocosm.
If Bama wins a close one, Fisher will treat it like a victory. That's already the way he's framing it to recruits. "Close game, could go either way, but we expect to win. We're going to punch Bama in the face and show them it's our house."
If ATM wins, they're going to cash in big on the trail.
If Bama beats ATM handily, Fisher's regime is in deep shit. It gets ugly for ATM in recruiting if Bama takes the crowd out of the game early.
This has already happened twice and both times, it has paid off for Fisher.
They lost a close one to Clemson in 2018 and had a very big recruiting weekend. Fisher treated the loss like a victory and sold the future to recruits while eating Herman's lunch in-state with that class (2019), including getting a big commitment from 2020 5 star Demas (I don't give a shit what happened in college, they signed the guy).
ATM also did this in 2021 when they beat Bama at home. They were on the brink of going backwards heading into that weekend and then leveraged the outcome and giant bags of cash into signing the 2022 class.
ATM is currently trying to do the same thing they did in 2021 by resetting the market on recruits. Don't kid yourselves, they're about to surge if they win or lose in a tight game. Here's hoping that Fisher's massive gambit flops.
They were slow-paying at one point, but that obviously got cleared up.
For once (and put this in the blind squirrel and nut category), this actually seems like a good gamble. Bama is obviously vulnerable by Bama standards this year, and A&M isn't as terrible as last year. Even if Bama wins, it's hard to imagine it getting too out of hand with their offensive limitations.

Any good restaurant recs for Bushwick neighborhood in Brooklyn? I’m headed up to help move my oldest son move in there later this month. Anything in proximity to there would be helpful. Thanks.
I’m a few years removed from frequenting Bushwick, but Ops is awesome and Roberta’s is definitely a welcome to the neighborhood spot. The Brooklyn outpost of Ten Bells is also out there, and I love their Manhattan location.
The real question is, can you make it to 4am with your son at Mirage, Nowadays or House of Yes (or more likely some club that is way too hip for me to know about).

If Georgia lays the smack down on Kentucky I think they’ll stay 1. I do think if we head into KSU week undefeated we’ll likely be 1 or at worst 2 in the first committee rankings.
-
I think most likely outcome is that they hit a few shots over the top to keep it respectable in the first half, and then we step on their throat in second half. I’ll be shocked if they rush for 100 yards.

You have Georgia 1st and Michigan 25th (or 19th? I don't know. You keep changing it). That doesn't make any sense. Michigan has won back to back B10 titles and has kicked the dogshit out of everyone on their schedule.
And promptly shit the bed in the playoffs. What Michigan has accomplished isn’t in the same universe as Georgia. And also, who gives a shit.

So resume except for #1 except they can suck shit through a straw as long as they continue to beat their collection of lame and halt- got it.
they might play exactly one ranked team- a suss Kentucky team, all year before the playoffs. Fuck that shit- they don’t deserve that ranking I’d they continue to look like @closetojumpingeoth his ass pressed against the mirror.
Wasn’t trying to be a dick, just genuinely curious. That’s fine. But they also looked like complete shit against Missouri this exact same weekend last year. That team turned out ok. When you are the 2x champ, I’m willing to give some latitude.

What are you doing with your ballot? It makes no sense to me- what is your underlying rationale?
Resume other than Georgia, who I give a pass until they lose the crown. For example, I think Wash St’s win over OSU is better than anything on Oregon’s resume even though my eyes tell me Oregon is the better team.
But it’s getting tougher/impossible to do and remain entirely logically consistent. Like in theory Washington hasn’t really played anyone just like OU and Michigan and USC haven’t played anyone, so I should probably have them bunched together. I’m also spending 5 minutes on this so probably fuck me.
edit to add: and I just realized I completely omitted OSU, so yes, fuck me.

I think aggy has a pretty good chance of winning, but they’ll still finish 8-4/9-3. I don’t see them doing better than 2-2 against Bama, LSU, Ole Miss or Tenn, but also don’t think the latter three teams are anything special this year.
