  1. My view is the Warriors don't NEED Durant to win, but he is a cheat code that makes them unbeatable. That said, this version of the Warriors is much more aesthetically pleasing and a good reminder that Steph Curry is one of the 15-20 greatest players of all time and a certifiable bad ass.

  2. RE: Why would the six kingdoms just let the North walk away without claiming their own independence?
    - At the end of the story, the North is the largest kingdom with the strongest military.   Not to mention that they also have some of the strongest and best-loved personalities in Westeros.   These things coupled with Bran on the throne would allow the North to dominate the politics of the seven kingdoms.
    - With the North off doing their own thing, the richest and most productive parts of Westeros are left on the table for the remaining six kingdoms to share.  The North is unlikely to ever pose a military threat while Bran is King.
    - The Ironborn, with their geography and recent history, are in a good position to be the go-between for the six kingdoms and the North.  There is a lot of potential financial gain there which can make up for all of that “not sowing.”  The bulk of their fleet was destroyed, and Euron’s ship building frenzy likely left the islands bare of timber for a generation.  They don’t look to be able regain the military capability to secede for some time, so they make the best of things and become peaceful traders with the remaining ships they have
    - Dorne is now the largest and most powerful of the remaining kingdoms.  Why be independent when you can finally make your play to be the dominant family in the kingdom without bloodshed?  Whose going to challenge them? The Tyrells and Freys are gone.   Tyrion and Sam are the last of the Lannister and Tarly families.  Gendry is the only Baratheon.  The only somewhat remaining family in the South is the Tullys and they aren’t what they once were.  Bronn isn’t going to have a handle on things in Highgarden for a while, especially since he is distracted with all of the brothel building.  The Martells were the least impacted financially and militarily by the war, so they are in prime position to exert their influence for the foreseeable future.  Why waste that opportunity just to say they are “independent?”
    - The other kingdoms and families have lost too much and lack the strength to go it alone.

Yeah, I bet Benioff and Wise definitely relied on this logic and not just “QUEEN OF THE NORTH DUR DUR”!

  3. If I'm the Pels, I at least give the Davis/Zion/Holiday combo until January or February before pulling the trigger on a Davis trade. Those two guys seemingly fit very well together, and maybe Zion is enough fun to make Davis reconsider. Simmons threw out that there is at least a possibility that the Knicks could package the third pick, Knox and the Dallas picks for AD, setting up Zion and RJ to reunite in New Orleans.

  4. I've tried really hard not to nit pick, but the last 1.5 seasons (at least) have been a disaster, and the show has generally become a mess. That entire episode was stupid moment stacked on top of stupid moment. I've spent more hours than I could count over the last 10 years reading the books and watching the show, but this is really disappointing.

  5. what antics? I don't consider him a dirty player. Given that presumption of non-guilt, i am perplexed why any fan would believe CP3 deserves to be spit upon (which btw is a huge insult on anyone and the spitter deserves to have his ass kicked to the moon).

I can’t believe I’m taking this bait, but nobody can be this dense. I get that you are a Rockets fan, but this is like a Texas football fan claiming not to understand why Breckyn Hager was universally hated by other fan bases. Chris Paul has been on the league’s most disliked team for at least the past 5 years, and that is no coincidence. He whines and cries incessantly, shows up referees and other players (e.g., jumping up and down after a foul against Harden), and generally acts like the most aggrieved person to ever play basketball. He is also known to straddle the Bruce Bowen line between hard play and dirty play. Even the way he walks on the court is annoying as fuck. He is an amazing player and I understand his team’s fan base cheering for him, but don’t be surprised when everyone else celebrates him losing or otherwise getting punked.

  6. Draymond Green has really stepped up his production in the playoffs.  I agree that his antics get old, and that Durant is the playoff MVP, but I'm not sure the Warriors would be winning without him.  Dude is averaging close to a triple double in the playoffs on pretty solid efficiency (close to the best in his career).  His interior passing is fantastic.
    Regular Season:  7.4 pts, 7.3 reb, 6.9 ast, 1.4 stl, 1.1 blk, 54.9% FG, 12.9 PER
    Playoffs To Date: 12.6 pts, 8.5 reb, 7.9 ast, 1.1 stl, 1.5 blk, 64.5% FG, 17.1 PER

And his defense has been ridiculous. I really bought into the notion that he was washed, and maybe this is his last stand, but he has been excellent. Still annoying as hell, although with CP3 on the court that particular bar is set high.

Now that’s a post worthy of some rep. Well done sir. Is this your first Gold experience? What did you think? I know it’s in my top 3 all time best.

Sublime, though I'm not 100% sure I could tell it apart from regular Blanton's in a blind taste test (which of course is also sublime).

  8. "So is it possible, and I know this is a huge stretch, that Beto and Pete are getting the lion's share of media coverage because they're out there busting their ass and pounding pavement multiple times daily, while the top female candidates (save Warren) are doing, well, not really anything?

Not really doing anything except for actually having a day job, which Beto conveniently does not have.

Recency bias with Broughton vs. Ojomo and Jones for sure.  Broughton has a lot of projectable upside because of his height/length but Ojomo has more athleticism and Ojomo's SR season between the chalk was much more impressive than Broughton's.

I think Sweat is in that conversation.

Sweat was ranked low because he tested poorly at a Rivals camp his Sophomore year and never attended another camp.  His Sr. tape was better than anyone in-state last year outside of Leal.

Warren looks like a future bad ass and J. Jones will give us minutes.

Mpagi looks like a stud 4-3 DE.

Right, every low 4 star/high 3 star we sign is a diamond in the rough or an [insert NFL player]-starter kit and was just improperly ranked due to bias, incompetency, it rained on the day they tested, etc. - signed every college football fan base.  Look, I'm not saying any one of these guys in particular won't turn out to be a star. It's certainly possible we hit on one or more. But, if the goal is to have an elite defensive line, we are not taking the path of least resistance.

Sweat, Warren, Ojomo, Coburn, Bimage, Graham, and Ossasi are cochino in the trenches. I think stars skew your perspective a bit, they are great fits for our defense.

We really don't need to reopen the "debate" on the correlation between stars and outcome.

    Exactly.

Overall last two classes were great. Doesn't mean there weren't holes. DL is definitely a hole. If we want to get back to where we need to be, we have got to start landing some of the top DLs. It's OK to be generally very satisfied with recruiting and the trajectory of the program while pointing out the areas where we're falling short. Right now we're falling short re: DL recruiting.

This is right. The reason we didn't have an elite defensive line last year and the reason we won't have an elite defensive line this year is because we haven't recruited the position at an elite level since Herman arrived (and, excluding Jordan Elliott, in the years immediately preceding Herman). Guys like Ta'quon Graham, Moro Ojomo, Jacoby Jones, T'Vondre Sweat, Myron Warren, etc. are nice players and most teams would be lucky to have them, but they aren't on the same level as prospects like Leal, Broughton and Collins.  Coburn is the only guy we've landed in the last few years who is in that conversation, and it's no surprise that he will be in the two deep this year.

One source said he’s so explosive and he is physically there that it shouldn’t surprise anyone if by the time the season rolls around, Whittington is the clear second team back (Ingram being the starter of course).

"One source" does not know how to speak English.
