  1. Yeah, like Maryland 2017, OU 2017, Maryland 2018, OSU 2018, and yesterday. The "Herman excels in big games" myth persists even though we've been punked/ embarrassed in just as many of them as we've come out looking prepared. I don't get it.

It’s your opinion that we didn’t play well against OU in 2017?
  2. We twice got the ball to start drives down 30-27 and didn't do shit

To be fair, we were moving the ball pretty well the first time until the missed PI call against LJH. That was a massive moment in the game.

    You picked some good places.

Keen's - I go for Martini's and Mutton Chop with work friends a few times a year. Good place to be thrown out of.

Emilio's Ballato - Used to live around the corner from Emilio's on Motto St. Saw Jessica Simpson trashed in there one night. That's all I got.

Daniel - Good is great. Hits the wallet hard.

Babbo - Food is fantastic. Rapist owner is not.

My spelling really goes to shit after three glasses of scotch.

Emilio's Ballato - Great little old Italian place.  Sat in a back room in the corner facing the only door after walking through the kitchen.  Felt like a mobster.  Food was really good, service was great, had a blast and really cool overall experience.

Daniel for Thanksgiving - Prix fixe menu that was REALLY expensive...and fussy.  I generally don't care that much if a special meal is a little spendy, but this was ridiculously expensive.     Good but not worth the price at all.  Only regret of the trip.

Babbo - Outstanding!!!  Not sure how anyone could have anything but great things to say about this place.  Food, service, atmosphere, people watching...great spot.  Until further notice, this might be the only place I insist on going every time I'm back in NY.

I'm already amped up for this game.  Despite the "focus on the game in front of you, not what's down the road," diatribe, I see this game as our penultimate showcase.  Forget whichever Bowl game we land in.  It will pale in comparison as to what's about to transpire this coming Saturday.

We get the sweet opportunity to play ou and beat the holy fuck out of them all over the goddamned field one more time.  No other situation can hold a candle to that.

This game is, by definition, Texas’ penultimate showcase this season.

True, but I'm pretty sure everyone here would rather win the CCG and lose the bowl than vice versa.  This is the big one.

Did I miss something and we are now pretending not to know the definition of penultimate?

The SoHo comments aren’t unreasonable, but there are a couple hotels there we like (SoHo Grand, Dominick) and it’s in a good location away from the Times Square/Midtown crowds.

I sat at a table next to Emily Ratajkowski at the SoHo Grand last year, so it has that going for it!

Yeah, our expectation for New Years is that we may have to find one place to camp for the evening as opposed to bar hopping after dinner, which is fine.  We'll have Dec. 30 and Jan. 1 to also enjoy the town.

And Spanky typically seems cranky, but he's also known for having some great travel recs, even if he thinks I'm a dumbass for avoiding Times Square on New Years.

you have the right plan. NYE is fun in the city, just stay downtown or brooklyn and avoid times square at all costs. personally, i think soho is terrible and has become super B&T, so I would rethink. but not the end of the world if that is where you end up.

I would do a 10-11 pm "dinner" reservation in the west village or lower east side depending on what scene you want. You should probably just stay camped out there all night. Bars on the lower east side will be jam packed, and many will charge $20+ covers.

There are also tons of NYE specific shows/parties (mostly in brooklyn), if that happens to be your jam.

In Austrailia, you dont get 3 weeks to vote and you have to answer some questions so you are identified and checked off the voting rolls (name., Address and if you voted previously), you actually do have to provide some form of ID in sweden, you have a voting card in Switzerland, yes, the UK and US do not technically have to show ID to vote and we are the only 2 countries with people in prison for voter fraud

Why in the world would need a holiday here when voting is for weeks and you can vote by mail?  That's stupid to me.  No need.

Just to be clear, early voting is still not allowed in 13 states in the U.S. Here in New York, for example, the Democratic controlled Assembly previously passed bills establishing an early voting window, but they have been blocked by the Republican Senate (which flipped to Dems last night).

Of course neither of the quoted posters actually care about this information, but thought I would clarify for others reading.

  9. Decent prices on both. Blanton's is always about 60 buck down here. Eagle Rare 10 is usually high $20s.
I'd pick up that bottle of Stagg Jr and decant it for 3 weeks to a month. Thank me later.

Damn, high $20s for ER? I might drink nothing else if that were the case for me. It’s plentiful up here, but I never see it below $39 in the city.

  10. We go to a cabin in a little town in upstate new york every fall. Stopped in said town’s liquor store, and scored these for $59 and $35 (would have been $75-$100 and $40 in NYC). They also had 2 bottles of Stagg Jr. for $59 that I passed on. Think I may go back and grab one.

Yeah, it sounds like they are keeping the food stalls. I'm more interested in the food stalls than doing the tour. I'll probably check out both locations.

The food stalls are awesome. I got an oyster the size of my hand for a dollar.

Should be a great show. They’re really coming into their own as live musical performers. Have fun!

Mentioned this upthread, but CSH at Brooklyn Steel recently was probably a top 10 show for me. Here is a decent clip of their opener (a bad ass Lou Reed cover).
