  1. Buddy in Toronto snagging me tix for the July series. Who else is going to that one?
  2. Slorch's example is that freaking weird cognitive conflict that occurs in modern-day GOP voters that I just don't understand one bit.
  3. It truly is facinating. Classmate from Edinburgh is a small business owner. And as you imagine, votes GOP on everything. But rails on racism, lack of opportunities for people in the valley, wants better education and medical care. Tells me his parents came to the US the right way. In my head, I'm thinking your parents took advantage of an official policy welcoming immigrants back in the day. It's not like they did anything special to apply for citizenship. So proud that his area is turning purple and how they now have Republican representation. But tells me it's politics that's preventing positive policy changes. When I asked him about the infrastructure bill signed by Biden, his reponse was so what, it's never going to reach the valley. Maddening, especially when you remove political beliefs, he's seems genuinely a very kind and caring person. I think GOP voters like him have this weird dichotomy going on all the time in their heads that they don't know how to resolve or choose to ignore right now.
  4. You're right, they've certainly paid their share of penalties. They're out of bankruptcy protection now and it's closer to $5.4 billion in cash and 22.19 percent of its stock into a trust for the fire victims. I'm talking about lack of accountability within PG&E at the corporate/senior leadership level and this culture of letting stuff like that happen regularly. Fwiw, I did some contract work with PG&E for a bit, and the everyday folks take their work seriously. Hey, if the post-bankruptcy PG&E does improve, then kudos to them as well! Was just drawing from past recall from living in CA and PG&E's repeated neglect with maintenance over costs.
  5. PG&E causing fires on the regular and other problems in CA. Now this outfit here. But nooooooo let's never really hold them accountable.
  6. why are y'all still engaging lol
  7. Man, if you’re gonna be a troll at least put some effort into it.
  8. Kinda being slightly nitpicky here aren’t we? https://doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199286140.013.0029 I can use my UT library access to get the full article if you like. Abstract Slaves are ubiquitous, yet nearly invisible: central to the functioning of the polis, but ‘outsiders’ to it as well. In this sense, there is something else that they symbolize: the relationship between the polis and other peoples and races. This relationship is often conceived in terms of actual or potential hostility. This article deals with how the Greeks saw foreigners, and, in particular, the nature of their negative views of non-Greeks. It shows that the Greeks might not have known colour prejudice, a defining feature of modern racism, but were no less racist for that. The highly institutionalized character taken on by travel in the Greek world may be explained in part by this suspicion of foreigners and foreign lands. The article defines racism as an attitude towards individuals and groups of peoples that posits a direct and linear connection between physical and mental qualities.
  9. What's your incentive structure? Are you valuing growth versus substance?
  10. Wonder what's he's gonna say if the state needs federal assistance with the wild fire
  11. Kinda timley, an opinion piece from the Times
  12. Eventually it can be! 😄
  13. Here’s to hoping for lots of adventures and less on melodrama.
  14. My small-business owner grad school classmate from the valley. “Oh oh, I actually live like a Democrat. But hey the GOP saves me money so I don’t care about anything else.”
  15. Hope it's good, loved the animated series... The casting certainly look on point. Still curious why the original creators left part way through the live action development.
  16. Thought part 1 was beautifully shot but boring af. But really looking forward to part 2 now.
  17. Not just any online courses… C A L I F O R N I A courses!
  18. For near-term I'll settle for pink to lilac. 😃
  19. Well this is damn dissapointing... I actually really like that cafe, but I've never been to that location.

  21. Ok God, you've got the winning the game part down... now how about doing something about the shooting

  24. yeah, I think this year I should work with some AAPI groups to get the vote out.
  25. Gotcha and you're so spot on with the Asian restaurants. I went to another one in Manhattan that was a Viet place. I can think of any hole in the wall places in Houston that would blow it out of the water.
