  1. American Legacy Fishing is have a sale on the Team Lew's Lite, which is a great reel - $167.99 https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/team-lew-s-lite-speed-spool-lfs-series-casting-reel.html
  2. I've been fortunate to be a part of several trips like this. A couple of years ago we had seven fish over 5# including a 6, 7, and 8. All in 1.5 hours. Last winter a friend had about 10 fish up to 7#. He was in a one man hole. About eight years ago we were wading KRS as a front blew in and a buddy had three over 7#. It's what keeps you coming back.
  3. Had an epic trip yesterday. From roughly 7-10 a.m. a friend and I landed the following specks: 1 5#, 3 over 6#, 1 over 7#, 1 at 8#, and 10-15 fish between 18-20". Fish were mostly caught on Fat Boys (Gringo and Texas Chicken) and a few on tails.
  4. The new Whitey Morgan and the 78's album - Hard Times and White Lines is pretty good.
  5. I went to East Matagorda yesterday. The water is still 12-18" higher than normal. This front and the NW winds its bringing should dump the water. The combination of high tides and a strong NE and E winds made finding fishable water a challenge. On my first wade I stuck nice 18" and 20" trout on back-to-back casts with a Gringo Fat Boy. I didn't get another touch until our last wade when I caught a sheepshead on the same lure. That was a first on a Corky. Caught many snot sharks and drum, but never a sheepy.
  6. Not high due to rain. It was a combination of fall equinox tides, Michael, and strong E and SE winds, which push water into the bay and effect tidal movement.
  7. I don't doubt it. A friend of mine has been at his place in Florida this week and said the red tide was horrible.
  8. Flounder fishing this year, and maybe next, is not going to be very good. The 15-16 and 16-17 winters did not get cold enough for them to spawn, so there was not much recruitment. Thus, not many 2-3 year old flounder out there. And the fish from 17-18 winter will be too small to keep.
  9. But to be fair, there's so much traffic in Austin you can't drive like shit because you barely move.
  10. I don't think think TPWD will change the slot for trout anytime soon. Right now TPWD is grappling over whether to institute the 5-fish limit on the upper coast (FM 457 in Sargent to Sabine Lake). If TPWD were to do anything with respect to bigger specks it would be to implement a tag system similar to reds for fish over 25". But I don't even think that will happen anytime soon.
  11. But then they wouldn't be able to take a picture standing next to it hanging from a rope and post it on the intergoogles so everyone can see how cool they are.
  12. Nice. There was a big airboat gathering in POC last weekend. I fucking hate airboats. FUCKING HATE THEM. Never came across one that wasn't an asshole. Some buddies of mine were burned by one last weekend while they were fly fishing in a lake on St. Joe's island. Guide ran within 20 feet of them.
  13. Hit East Matty today. Didn't get to fish last weekend and won't this weekend because I'm going to the Maryland game. Needed my fix. I didn't have high expectations because it's the backside of the full moon. Wrong. The moon set minor was awesome. I probably released 20-25 fish in an hour and a half. Kept two reds and a trout from that wade. Once the minor was over so was the bite.
  14. Staying at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania.
  15. Any suggestions for sports bars? I'll be there for the Maryland game this weekend and looking for somewhere to watch games on Friday night.
  16. Would be nice. It's been washed out for so long.
  17. I have a PowerPole and an anchor on my boat. If it is not too windy (or in a protected cove) or I'm not in strong current (San Luis Pass), I use my PowerPole. But I know people who don't even carry an anchor on their boat. PowerPole has changed its ads and reduced the range on the remotes. Mine doesn't even have enough range to effective use it to drift the boat while I'm wading. Seriously debating whether I'll get one on my next boat. But they damn sure are nice to use around the dock and while picking people up when a wade is over.
  18. Are you referring to the young man that swam after his boat that drifted away? Sad deal. I saw an article where the Calhoun County Sheriff stated there have been four similar instances in the past year.
  19. Have tickets to Tyler Childers' sold out show at Gruene Hall on December 13. Hope I can make it.
  20. I fished East Matty today. Probably caught 12-15 reds but most were under Texas slot. Had on a big trout that came unbuttoned. Oh well, nice morning on the water.
  21. If you do all braid with no backing, you can "flip" the braid and respool with the top on bottom. That way you have fresh braid on top. If you're fishing a lot, I would put on new line or flip. 8 months is a long time.
  22. How often are you switching out your line or flipping your braid so you have fresh line? I still think it's an issue of knot integrity (not cinched down enough) or just a wrong knot for the application.
