They're trying to depress Democratic votes and pump up R votes. If R voters don't get out on Tuesday, it's not going to work. The campaign uses that goose stepping, yelling, honking energy like the WWE gets their crowd wild.

Meanwhile, tune in!  Frozen fish sticks and stale beer!

I'm not a fan of the fat jokes and fuckability ratings that posters apply to any woman who is the subject of a post. That being said, if a woman describes herself as "kinda hot"... she ain't.

Trump has scooped up two percentage points very recently while Biden is flat.

How is that not the majority of undecideds breaking for Trump? Weird argument you're making.

There is a difference between "the majority of undecideds are simply ashamed Trump voters" and the "among undecided voters, those that have so far decided are switching to Trump more than Biden". You can certainly make an assumption that those which have broken towards Trump are representative of all undecided voters, but that is not clear from the data provided, agreed?

Wasn't there a discussion on here about having your children with you when (peaceful) protesting (during the BLM daytime marches) and there was a Surly member who thought it was a bad idea? Did that include marching to vote, because right now it seems safer to take American children to a murder hornet nest collection site.

You're thinking of @Axiom of Choice chiding @Brisketexan.

Dude, maybe we're showing our age, but the years after the collapse of the Soviet Union revealed some jaw-dropping disasters -- the type that a klepto-communist and repressive regime commit.  Here's a summary article I grabbed with a few seconds of Google time:

    https://www.robedwards.com/2010/12/the-soviet-environmental-disasters-that-could-come-to-haunt-us.html

A system that is (purportedly) answerable to "everyone" is actually answerable to no one.  And when everything is socialized -- both profits and costs -- things go to their extreme.  Layer on a repressive state that crushes any dissent or complaint from the people (complaint about actions of the regime is disloyalty, and you are a traitor to the country -- some time in a gulag might do you some good), and that's exactly how it happens.  Treating dissenting press coverage as "the enemy of the people" is a hallmark of such regimes.

I agree, but I am not sure what the point is. I'm a Man (/Gundy) so I am well familiar with the collapse of the Soviet Union. I am also familiar with the environment disasters in the US from mining, manufacturing, etc. No country / economy has EVER been good at capturing external cost. Now with EPA and other regulations, the US is closer to some degree, but I don't think socialism vs capitalism has anything to do with environmental disasters.

This is not intended as a defense of capitalism or socialism, but it seemed like @Bozo_Casanova was implying that one was better than the other (in terms of capturing cost / economic disasters, not necessarily overall). If that is the case, I would again just try to understand what is meant by capitalism vs socialism, when every economy in the world is essentially a mix of the two.

No. And this is a tangent but it’s important.

That 9 million dollars is called an externality. It’s the cost of a private transaction borne by those who aren’t a party to the exchange of value. Socialized, in other words.
The reason why the greatest environmental disasters in history have occurred under either socialist regimes is that if the everyone has equity in everything there’s no such thing as externalities cost. but I digress.
The point here is that owning the means of production includes incurring the full cost. If the legal regime permits large scale externalized cost or artificial price caps are imposed (as in med mal caps) that’s not capitalism, period. It’s either socialism or kleptocracy.

Wait wut? I agree that this is important but I have no idea what you are trying to say here. I <think> you are saying that the greatest environmental disasters have occurred under socialist regimes? What disasters are you thinking of? I mean, there's a lot, but is Bhopal greater than Love Canal? Chernobyl? Easter Island?

And what socialist regime has ever existed that actually had everyone with equity in everything? How are you determine socialism vs capitalism given that no pure socialist or capitalist market has ever existed?

I totally agree that owning means of production should incur full cost, but has that literally ever occurred?

Fair questions.  I ain’t dodging it.  Let me preface it by saying I’m not a true GOP’er.  My only formal party affiliation of the last four years has been a card carrying member of the LP.  But I do vote way more Republican than Democrat.  I think this is a worthwhile discussion that we should all have but maybe on another thread so as not to derail this one?   But I’d love to get it off my chest however deemed appropriate.

I don't know if it's just me, but this may be the calmest Lobo post I've ever seen. "Let's switch his caffeinated coffee with decaf and see if he notices".

Ahhh.   2 months ago.  My bad. Time seems to take forever in 2020.   I honestly haven’t been paying attention to much the past 3 weeks either.  Got other shit going on that’s slightly more important than trying to gotcha people about an event that happened 2+ months ago.

Hah, awesome. Tries to gotcha someone about an event that happened 2+ months ago. Fails. "Whatever guys, I don't have time for trying to gotcha people about an event that happened 2+ months ago".

when the announcer said "and they're sending maldonado", they went to a shot of home plate.  typically when you hear that, you get ready to see a play.  once they showed home plate, there were a couple beats where maldonado wasn't even in frame yet.  i was happy he got sent, but when i didn't see him, i was certain he'd be hosed.

We need a "It's funny because it's true" rep.

I'm not saying I'd pay to watch africanized killer bees go up against the murder hornets, but if the Asian bees have learned to swarm those hornets and raise their body temperature to the point they kill the murder hornets, I'd like to see what the africanized bees can do.

Shit, according to Reggie White, Africanized killer bees should be awesome at singing and dancing compared to Asian bees who are too busy turning TVs into watches. This should be a snap.

See. That's so much better. Thank you. Perhaps you should consider abandoning the notion of wheelhouse and adopt some kind of Dante's Inferno Levels of Fuckability.

"This chick falls right into my greasy burger and cheap beer ring of fuckability."

Or (and this isn't directed just to you) it's also possible to not follow any mention of a female anchor / politician / actress / <insert profession here> without accompanying metric of fuckability at all. I know that's a pretty crazy opinion but it just might work!

There is a very, very large progressive Christian movement.  You know, folks who are pounding their heads in frustration at that anti-gospel, outright hypocrisy of "evangelical christians."  Just because you have bought the insane and false lies of the admin ("Biden hates religion"  - dude, he carries a fucking ROSARY with him, that's more religious than 95% of America right there) doesn't make them true.  In fact, that the message comes from the admin tells you it's false.

Not only is the Democratic party NOT anti-Christian, a metric shitton of Christians are voting Democratic precisely BECAUSE it aligns more closely with the simple truths and values of what the Gospel says.

Jesus, you can't help but pants yourself, can you?

As a UU, I gotta say it feels pretty cool to be part of one of the few denominations that is more Dem than Atheists. Instead of gay marriage or women preaching, our biggest national struggle is to how to reconcile white supremacy with aging (and largely older white) congregations.

We get it. Terrorism is a partisan issue for you. I'm sure you look into ISIS's political motivations before condemning them when they blow up a school in Afghanistan.

Thank God the FBI doesn't see it as a political issue like you do.

I wonder if you're even able to respond to this without getting overly political or if that would just blow your mind to comprehend.

You have really weird ideas about what goes in CR. I remember laughing my ass off at you getting pissed in the basketball forum and negging someone for talking about Karl Malone's domestic abuse and statutory rape accusations. Maybe you're just super high and somehow get aggro as a result, but it is not CR to talk about things you don't like or understand.

I'd honestly be surprised if a single person on this board were in favor of that thing CA did, assuming it looks in practice as described by the poster. That's ridiculous.

What was even described? How can you be in favor or opposed to the original post?

For actual detail, the state recognizes that poor (e.g. mostly minority areas) have higher positivity rates, have higher impact caused by lack of savings, and tend to work in jobs that can't be done at home. As a result, as part of re-opening, larger counties have to specifically include testing/validation targeting the areas with most impact. Decent article here (LA Times). You can still be for or against this, but at least do 2 minutes of searching before outrage.

So you don't see any disconnect in what you wrote? No potential cause for concern or irritation that after a clear murder, the cop was given 1-2 days to get story straight and game plan defense? You think that if you or I murdered in plain sight that we would have the same luxury?

I don't see anyone criticizing the Texas Rangers but perhaps this is why people aren't tripping over themselves to praise the Wolfe City PD.

i had a bigger problem with the "picked up" flags that were actually penalties

Also clear no-calls, like no PI against Eagles in the 2nd quarter, and bullshit like the blowing the whistle on offside for TCU, eliminating a big run / free play for Texas. Anyone who claims the refs weren't a factor in this game either has an agenda or wasn't watching. Texas should have won anyway but looking at flag count misses the point.

  17. @Anastasis I know we are all shitty and pissy (and dare I say Surly?) watching this awful game. That said, telling someone they are wrong and have no reading comprehension while not saying why is bad form. Exceptions certainly apply with clear trolls. I am sure you have history with jimmyjazz but I think you would probably agree that he's not a troll, just a misguided Cardinals fan.

To create a physical record of their presence on the car for identification purposes in the event they are killed.  Think about that for a second.  Dozens of stops a day, hundreds a week, thousands a month.  Each with the level of apprehension that I need a physical identification marker in the event of any technological malfunctions that I was here in case I die.

The point is most officers are under a tremendous amount of stress, and traffic stops are among the worst in terms of apprehension.  Felons with warrants.  Contraband.  Fugitives.  Hostages.  All this factors in.  You want to replace these officers with unarmed social workers?  For many soccer-moms scared to get a ticket, sure.  For gang members, felons, and the rest, this is a recipe for an unmitigated disaster.  It's not a secret traffic stops and domestic violence calls are THE MOST dangerous calls LE's have to make....and you want to send in social workers into a scenario you know nothing about?  Utter insanity....

Wait - are you under the impression that even the most ardent "defund the police" people are arguing that social workers should be performing traffic stops?
