  1. Only beat Nick Saban once in many tries, even with better teams. Went for it on 4th down in his own territory with 4 minutes left up 15 when UT hadn't moved the length of the field the whole game. UT had 53 yards offense, he was up 23 and did an onsides kick to give us a short field to start the 2nd half. Smart did great game preparation, but he sucked as bad as Ewers and Beck in game decisions.
  2. I like Mulkey. Both are competitors, but she doesn't need an assistant to grab onto her belt to keep her off the court.
  3. Quinn and Carson both dropped a round or two in the NFL draft.
  4. Isn't that an automatic fine for anyone but Saban and Smart? He's really turning into a prima donna jerk with his two titles. He shoved that Mississippi St. player who was in his way when he was trying to yell at one of his D coaches and he just explained in away. He said he didn't even know he shoved the guy. No cognizance that he was acting like a 5 year old. Then in the Auburn game he bitched about the fans not being loud enough, when they had control the whole game and almost all the game was in the end of the field where the Auburn fans were. He said it being hot was no excuse. It was reasonably loud. And there had just been a hurricane and a lot of people had flooding and damage and some of them are still without power. He should have been glad it was a full house.
  5. And they do get injuries. Its not uncommon for these games to be shortened. Georgia played Samford a couple years back and shortened the 2nd half to 10 minute quarters. And Samford didn't lose any other game until the FCS playoffs. They were a good FCS team. And probably only got scheduled because the coach was the first one to hire Kirby Smart. But Georgia does FCS schools every year. Of course, kickoffs are dangerous, but a Southern U. player got paralyzed in a game against UGA a dozen years or so ago. You don't see any 6A schools scheduling 4A schools.
  6. Michigan and a few others are the only ones with 8. Texas has the OU game, so often has only 6.
  7. Well the primary beneficiaries are the ADs and coaches, who get to keep their jobs.
  8. With the two team subnetworks, the LHN was not a stumbling block. Texas would still get the exposure they wanted. It was never mentioned at the time. People just started bringing it up when it became a $15 million annual network.
  9. Because Ewers couldn't hit a barn in the first quarter and was a little off after that. Most of the yards were due to some really good tough running by our receivers. And some of those easy passes were really high. He had a tendency to overthrow Saturday.
  10. I've realized its best not to read them once the game starts.
  11. Arch should have been in there. But don't criticize his body language. That's just Ewers. He was really rusty Saturday.
  12. I hate seeing LHN fiction on the Texas board. Nobody had a clue the LHN would pay more than $3 million or so a year until November, 4 months after the Pac 16 blew up. And Fox was the favorite for the LHN. ESPN and Fox DID promise the Big 12 they would make a lot more and agreed to negotiate early. Fox gave the Big 12 a bonus before the new deal was even up. Fox went from $20 million to $90 million and eventually $100 million. ESPN didn't pay out right away but went in 2 years from $60 million to $100 million.
  13. No quite sure how that happened. Too late to edit. But then it does represent the value of those games. A lot of nothing.
  14. I don't see the need for FCS games. And its really ridiculous when Michigan, Penn St., Alabama and Georgia do it. I do agree they aren't ready for 12 P4 games. So maybe 9 conference games, 2 P4 games, 1 G5 game. But the 2 G5 and 1 FCS is overkill and leaves money on the table and abuses fans.
  15. New proposal out there: https://sports.yahoo.com/while-sec-and-big-ten-leaders-mull-major-changes-a-new-super-league-concept-looms-that-could-radically-alter-college-sports-130031534.html "...As SEC and Big Ten leaders prepare to meet Wednesday and Thursday in Nashville for a historic summit of the industry’s two powers, there is an unreported undercurrent driving the discussion: Project Rudy. Spearheaded by former Disney executives-turned-investment professionals, Project Rudy is a super league-esque concept — separate and more simplified than the one made public last week — that incorporates football programs of the four power conferences in a 70-team structure. The model preserves the four power conferences, expands the postseason, overhauls scheduling, tiers revenue distribution and, most importantly, infuses as much as $9 billion of private capital cash into the system. The architects behind the model work for Smash Capital, a venture capital and private equity firm with offices in Los Angeles and New York. Representatives from Smash Capital declined to comment when reached last week, but their concepts are outlined in a 14-slide presentation obtained by Yahoo Sports. Over the last four months, athletic directors at more than 25 power conference programs have seen the presentation, many of them in person during meetings with Smash Capital representatives.... Project Rudy is built on two somewhat simple concepts to increase revenue from television networks and corporate sponsors. (1) Arrange more games between power conference programs by eliminating all games against Group of Five and FCS opponents; expanding the playoffs; and pitting blue-blood powers more often against one another. (2) Consolidate the media rights of the 70 schools under one agreement, instead of the current structure of five different packages (one for each power league and Notre Dame)...."
  16. Ohio St. and Oregon play this weekend.
  17. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2024/10/07/college-athlete-settlement/ House settlement approved with minor changes.
  18. App St. is 2-3 right now. Georgia Southern hasn't been rolling over everyone once they got settled in FBS. Its not clear how good these schools are going to be in the long run. Louisiana Monroe knocked off some people in their early years. Then they took a nose dive (although they have started off well this year). The Montanas and Dakotas most likely are going to be nothing better than another Wyoming in the long run. MWC doesn't need that.
  19. Wyoming, and in 2025 Delaware, are the only states with FBS programs who have less than 1.4 million people. Hawaii, #40 has 1.4 million. WV, #39 has 1.8 million. Montana is #43 with 1.1 million. And Montana and the Dakotas have their states split between major schools, unlike HI, WV, DE and WY. Montana, Idaho, NDSU, SDSU, UND and USD are all very small for FBS with around 12k students or less. Montana St. has 17k, but that still is smaller than typical for FBS. I don't think it makes sense to maybe be a Wyoming in FBS instead of one of the tops in FCS.
  20. I've never seen 3 OPIs against one team in a game. But the refs called 3 against UGA. One was phantom. Other two were grey.
  21. And some seem to be getting paid by gamblers.
  22. Saw someone say McMurphy said on 365 that Texas St. was on the back burner for the Pac. They were focusing on other schools. https://www.courant.com/2024/10/01/source-uconn-wont-join-pac-12-doesnt-consider-conference-the-right-fit/?share=tcjnnrr2onohtnon1di0 Hartford paper says UConn has closed the door on the PAC.
  23. https://themw.com/ UTEP to MWC is official.
