Well, I don't know about you guys, but boy has it been an awesome past week on this thread and board. We've picked up commits, explored the wonderment of Oscar Giles and his fanbase, I've been given tips on how to win friends and influence people, SydneyCarton has been reminded of his lapdog status which is gratifying but has him quietly sulking, and fuck, you name it.

Anyway, I'm off to Europe to cavort with the landed gentry and HenryJames. My curse to the rest of you recruitnik hillbillies is that I hope not a fucking thing happens while I am gone on the commitment front and this thread continues to twist itself into utter futility until the dead period ends. I return for the UTL event, which should be balls to the wall, and then we enter the season. Should stuff happen in the interim, I'll just consider it a reverse jinx on my part and take credit for it.

Also, when stuff does go down with the existing players on the team and attrition is announced, it's all good with clearing dead weight on the roster for new guys or deserving walk-ons. We need the numbers for this next class either way.

    Lol recruiting (CB Lorando Johnson)

Was this guy committed somewhere? Or is this just a purely oblivious 15/16 year old kid who doesn't realize that no one knew he had originally narrowed shit down in the first place?

Hmmm. This doesn’t match the narrative on this board. Who’s wrong?

Who is right more frequently, contributors on this board, or shilling mouthbreathers trying to salvage some favor with the UT staff over at 247? I’ll never forget when Howe wrote the article comparing Swoopes to VY and defended Brown not pursuing JT Barrett. Or the many articles defending Shawn Watson and telling us the offense had turned a corner heading into 2015. Or the Chip Brown hit piece. Or EJ Holland telling us all that Marcel Brooks was “this close” to visiting and getting an offer. And on and on. Yeah, they’ve got their finger on the pulse.

Everything has been discussed on this thread many times.

Oh, I think we’ve got plenty of land to till on this thread yet. Off the top of my head, we’ve not really covered:

    -Stanford’s fearsome awesomeness

-Oh My God Alabama is involved with one of our targets, let’s move on

    -The merits of Drew Mehringer

    -The merits of Derek Warehime

-Do we need to win this year to sign a great class?

-How many scholarships can we take this year?

-The grad transfer rule - how does it work?

-Do star counts and recruiting rankings really matter?

-Are you a coach, sir? and it’s various iterations

-Some other broad being introduced to the photo gallery beyond Kate Beckinsale and how does everyone feel about that?

-Your posting style is impeding my enjoyment of my morning coffee.

-The $9.95ers and which one is a pal versus a motherfucker.

See, lots of terrain left to cover before August.

So, how do you feel about your posting style? Do you feel like you have any pent up anger?

Is it because a famous football player punched you in the face during a basketball game for "no reason" after you dove at his feet and talked shit at a football game months earlier? Is it because Sydney use to drive a nicer car than you? Tell me about it?

Bizarre post, and you infer a lot of incorrect premises, too.

Beyond that, it’s always funny to me when people assume I’m pessimistic or angry as a dude. You clearly track my posts, but then one of your conclusions is that I have pent up anger?

You guys need to pull yourself together and follow Machinator’s lead and get back to recruiting. You’re pulling your hair and gnashing your teeth because I mocked the recruiting value of a coach.

The only reason people put up with your shouting down of everyone with a differing opinion is because you regularly drop useful information. I'm not even taking a side in the arguments because I rarely post, but I do appreciate everyone who contributes on this thread. However, Oscar Giles isn't in the same vein as Warehime or Mehringer in my book.  Your jihad against him is strange. Obviously his recruiting is less than ideal, but the vitriol shown toward him is breathtaking. He is a Longhorn and no Longhorn who is mediocre to bad at their job deserves to have comments like the above thrown their way. Simply because he didn't get some football recruits you wanted. Be better as a person.

Thank you for the advice on how to be a “good person”. I’m going to roll this in with RomaVicta’s good parenting and really try to regroup for you guys.

The “Oscar is a Horn!” defense is probably the weakest, most aggie-esque of all of the defenses that get tossed out there for the guy. Either the fucking dude is helping the program get better every day or he isn’t. His alma mater means precisely dick to me and many others.

This shit always brings out the pearl clutchers. Inevitably I’m the big meanie beating up on poor ol’coach whoever, who’s getting paid mid-6 figures to coach a child’s game in which we all follow and Texas hasn’t been very good at in quite the while. But carry on, I’m being hurtful to poor Oscar for the 4-5 posts on him in which I’ve had a take. That’s what has the program below .500 over the past 4 seasons.

Nice use of foment and vomit in the same post. Seriously. You're smart and articulate.

This new tiresome outbreak of coach bashing is a Pandora story. A little curiosity paved the way for a tempest of bloviation and hate untempered by humility or respect for those who disagree or merely don't care to hear it all again. The coach bashing becomes a cause rather than an observation. You become Jehovah's Witnesses appearing at the door everyday to spread your Truth.

"It's the off season or dead period" is not an excuse. Maybe try restraint instead of assuming something must be written. Or try something like, "you all know my feelings about Giles, so I'll just say..."

Again, most of the anti-Giles et al crew are very smart. That doesn't make you incapable of being tedious or condescending.

I won't participate in the coming argument about my role as thread police or why the unwashed masses need to be educated by the pristine. This is my say.

You try too hard, sometimes, man. That’s an awkward post.

Thanks for the advice, though. I not only needed it, I’m going to take it to heart and really let it shine through my posts in the future. I’ll “assume positive intent” and “seek first to understand” before pointing out that posters or Derek Warehime or Drew Mehringer or Oscar Giles aren’t worth the fucking bullet it would take to put them down. Good talk, pops.

People have been attempting to coach me or counsel me on my posting behavior for the past 21+ years on the boards. It’s worked out really well for them and you should continue to carry the torch. I think you’re going to find it really fulfilling.

Jesus Christ, I am not even on Twitter.  I am certainly not a Twitter fan-boi.  I can read threads and determine that RunZekerun01 is Zach Evans.  If you are too stupid, old, or lazy to do the same then I can't help your dumb ass.    Carry on with you Mehringer and Giles hate.

First of all, my name is not Jesus Christ. I don’t know how many times I have to explain that to you guys.

Beyond that, I literally make part of my living off of social media, so I don’t think I am too old or stupid for Twitter. Am I too lazy? Fuck, I don’t know but I don’t get accused of that very often either.

I don’t think it is unreasonable that someone reference the dude’s name that they are Twitterpimping. I’m busy, and I’m not alone on this. I don’t want to have to decipher fucking Twitter handles or nicknames of players in order to understand what in the fuck a post is about.

It’s pretty simple. I’ll post what I know about Evans and his recruitment when I know something, you can simply shut the fuck up, and guys like texifornia and Machinator can reference who they’re retweeting on here when they post about them and we’ll have perfect symbiosis. A key in that is you doing not a fucking thing.

Does that sound reasonable? Or do you feel compelled to continue to unnecessarily defend texifornia’s honor here ?

I don’t pay one lick of attention to twitter handles. They have almost nothing to do with someone’s name most of the time. Don’t project your twitter fanboi-ing onto me as a table stakes requirement to following recruiting.

Horns247 Recruiting Mailbag: Can Texas land Cain and Sanders?

      Hide contents

What will it take for us to land a signature from both Noah Cain andTrey Sanders? -- waterboie

EJ: It’s going to be tough to get both. For Cain, it’s about improved offensive line play this season. For Sanders, it’s about NFL development and winning on the field. With a spectacular season on the field, it’s not farfetched to think Texas can get both. They have talked about playing with each other at the next level, and Texas is a school that can fit both of their needs. But again, it’s going to be difficult.

Mike: Texas needs to prove they can run the ball and have some developing offensive linemen in their future. These are huge points of emphasis for the Cain family and something they'll be watching throughout the season. They are also going to have to outwork some really spectacular recruiting staffs for both guys. When the field was more narrow for Cain it was an easier sell, but now that schools like Georgia and Penn State (who both had high draft picks at running back) it's becoming more murky.

If we get one of either Noah Cain orTrey Sanders, do we still take two running backs? If so, could you compare Deondrick Glass, Derrian Brown or any others as a potential second RB. Are they just looking for best available or do they want different skill sets if they take two? - professorbiggs

EJ: Yes, I could still see Texas taking two backs even if they get Cain or Sanders. I don’t think either cares if there is another back in the class. Brown would be ideal. He’s a faster back that would compliment either well. After that, it would probably be best available. I actually like Newton’s Darwin Barlow as a late take. He has an argument as the best back in the state this cycle and brings a complete skillset.

Mike: Brown might actually be the best fit for the offense even though he's not necessarily the most talented. I think Texas would love to take two high level guys regardless, and I believe Darwin Barlow would be in that discussion. I just don't see them really pushing for Glass at this point.

When talking about the 2020 class, it seems as if every discussion is about the defensive backs and for good reason because 2020 is loaded again just like 2018 was. But who is the staff targeting as priorities along the defensive line in-state and out-of-state? -- JT9732

EJ: Texas has only extended four offers along the defensive line in 2020. In-state, the two big early targets are Highland Park’s Prince Dorbah and Spring Woods’ Vernon Broughton. Both visited this offseason. Out-of-state, Texas has offered Jaquelin Roy and Darnell Washington. Roy also visited this offseason. Texas has also hosted in-state guys like Alec Bryant, Braedon Nutter and Princely Umanmielen. If I were the Longhorns, I would offer or at least show more interest in Newton’s James Sylvester and Dallas Carter’s Branard Wright.

Mike: EJ pretty much broke it down, but expect the lion share of offers to go out this fall when the staff can evaluate more targets.

Maybe I have missed it somewhere, but what’s the relationship between Chris Adimora and guys like Bru McCoy and De’Gabriel Floyd, if any? Could be nice to have another Cali guy putting good words in McCoy’s ears. -- rtapp32

EJ: Adimora is another quiet kid. I’m not sure that he’s very close to Floyd or McCoy. However, landing Adimora is obviously a good look for the Longhorns out West. He is a national Top 200 recruit and a prospect those guys respect. Floyd is going to continue to be UT’s vocal leader in California. And as y’all know, he is very close to McCoy and spent a lot of time recruiting him at The Opening Finals this week.

Mike: It matters for perception, but like EJ said, I'm not sure the two are very close. Adimora isn't the same type of personality as Floyd, but he could develop into that. The more consensus you can build in a certain area, the better.

If we lose out on Javonne Shepherd after losing out on Branson Bragg, would it be time to panic? What other OL options are there? -- Hookem757

EJ: Yeah, it would be hard not to, especially with Shepherd naming Texas his leader throughout the summer. With that said, I still think Shepherd will jump on board. As far as other options, the only other offensive lineman Texas is really pushing for right now is IMG Academy’s Chris Akporoghene, who visited this summer. The Longhorns are still talking with TCU commit Andrew Coker as well.

Mike: Texas could still put together a strong offensive line class, but losing on Shepherd would hurt for sure. EJ mentioned Akporoghene and Coker, and beyond that they'd have to move on to some second tier options. It's not an incredibly strong year in-state for offensive line, and many targets are already off the board.

Who's one recruit on both sides of the ball that you would love for UT to recruit/offer a scholarship to? -- uthaas

EJ: On the offensive side of the ball, I would go with Evan Neal. The IMG Academy offensive lineman visited in the offseason and really impressed at The Opening Finals. He’s reshaped his body, and I like him more than the aforementioned Coker. He said a Texas offer would make an impact on his recruitment. On the defensive side of the ball, give me Jonathan McGill. I don’t think there is a way to fit him unless Texas misses on Jalen Catalon. But the dude is a baller.

Mike: I really like Darwin Barlow on offense, and I feel like taking him wouldn't put you in jeopardy with Cain or Sanders. Since EJ took my choice on defense, I'll say Steven Parker. I know he's strongly committed to Texas Tech, but I think they could make things interesting. He's just too intriguing of a prospect to not entertain on that front.

This Q&A article right here tells you all you need to know about the level of mental capacity possessed by the average poster at UT's 247 site. They are collectively dumber than a sack of hammers. The premise that there is any viability whatsoever to the fantasy of signing both Cain and Sanders at Texas is absurd bordering on plaid.

What's wrong with that? It was full of plot holes. So the giant teleportation machine in the US is destroyed but then they just happen to have an identical secret giant teleporter ready to go in Japan, that no one else fucking knew about? That's fucking ridiculous. I'm with Josh Moore. Fuck that movie.

You, sir, can go fuck yourself. Contact was an awesome movie. Many folks may consider Failure to Launch or Ghosts of Girlfriends Past to be Matthew McConaughey's tour de force, but I stand firmly behind the position that it is indeed his role of Palmer Joss that defines both his career, and Jodie Foster's worldview on spirituality.

I don't recall shitty performances like what Jimbo is most likely going to roll out there this fall having more than a small impact on recruiting classes. I'd expect a few departures, sure, but I don't think it will be the wholesale jumping of ship that some are looking forward to. Maybe 2 or 3, actually, at most, is my wild-assed-guess. Especially if the checks have cleared.

I'm not predicting an exodus. I do think they're going to have to spend a lot of time and energy keeping things together, though. It really depends upon how bad things get.

It would not be a huge shock if Spiller, Carter, Harris and Stripling were all in the fold by the end of August but I think the first two are the best bets for it to happen. That would leave only a very small number of targets for the coaching staff to all work on over the course of the season.

    By: Brian Perroni

This also presumes the on-field performance will be strong enough to keep a number of the existing commits from wandering. Good luck with all of that.

And, even though this is a straw man and no one has mentioned this or contemplated it, I'm going to throw it out there, no, I won't toss in a buck for a "Giles is not our standard" banner...he's an ex-Longhorn ffs.

  20. 1 minute ago, Machinator said:

So, assuming Houston commits to Texas tomorrow, how does the rest of WR recruiting play out, if we have a good season on the field?

    Wright

    Higgins

    Washington

    Ellis

    Powell

    Anderson

some other target that has yet to emerge

Prospects such as Bru and Tongue who want to play WR but might end up at different positions

Wright and Higgins stay on the board, as well as McCoy and Tongue. The others begin to look redundant, but who knows, if Lil'Jordan Humphrey is apparently going to be an NFL draft pick after going 20/300/3 this year, maybe Mehringer knows something we don't with his depth chart. I've always assumed 4 + Wild Card (if you can get one), but maybe it is 5 + WC.
