  1. I had forgotten about Loree until it was brought up, but there are at least a dozen or more posters here that were discussing it on hornfans after it happened. I do think, as troph said, the other site had the name hookem in it or something like that. I just can’t remember exactly.

  2. How the hell does OU recruit well almost every year? It’s a shithole city, shithole state, their coach is suspect, they can’t have that much NIL money, the school itself is unimpressive, the area is full of racist lugheads, there are more Karen’s per capita than just about anywhere else, the pro sports in the area are weak, it’s boring.

  3. CPI has lagging indicators, especially housing. It’s close to the 2% target once you look at where housing is headed and remove the volatility of energy.

However, the economy has to be pushed clearly into a recession to generate significant unemployment, which would drop inflation firmly into the 2% range or possibly even lower, and also slow down coastal housing inflation

But, with deficits and debt so high the government can’t afford a major recession or the debt and deficits will get so scary as to be potentially catastrophic.

So they will be reluctant to push too hard. The coming wave of real estate defaults will probably cause a major impact. So they will not raise rates, wait for the real estate crash, and then adjust rates modestly.  Inflation will continue to run hot for the next 10 years (3-4%) and they will inflate away the debt.

Better than any RB on our roster and has 2 years of stats against P5 comp to back it up. No one we currently have can say that.

Unless someone confirms that they’ve met Helobious in real life, then these two posts confirm that the Helobious account is satire. There is no way there is someone this dumb on the internet.

  5. So thinking about doing a trip to Ireland in July. Appreciate anyone's input. I've been to Dublin many times for business and stayed there quite a bit. I don't think we want to spend much time there and will focus on the west side of the island. Just how bad are the tourist crowds in July on the west side? I'm guessing we would spend time among Galway, Dingle, Killarney, but still trying to decide. Reading Surly threads to establish an itinerary.

Also, I learned a year ago in Colorado that my fear of heights has gotten way worse for some strange reason. How bad or scary is the driving from a heights perspective? My wife will be doing the driving, and I'm not sure how she will react to the tight roads either. I'm a little leary of getting exhausted from driving.

Well thanks a lot. You just gave the pro-Terry crowd a post they can go to over and over until the end of year five of Terry’s rein.

I predict we hit $100, $125 and $150 over the next three calendar years, respectively.

I waded into this thread because I want to understand the following about the oil/energy markets:

    1. How does supply look over the next several years. Your price predictions imply constrained supply vs demand. Is that because of the shale field topping out? If so, then doesn’t everyone understand that? Are oil futures reflecting this?

    2. How will the stocks of energy companies do over the next ten years? If there is limited supply does that mean bad or good?

    3. which energy companies are best positioned to survive and thrive? Seeing Buffet buy Oxy was interesting.

Took some test photos at noon today.  Used a 10 stop ND filter on a 70-200 and 100-500 lens.  Couple taken with a tripod, couple without.  Shutter speeds varied.  Now, let's hope the cloud cover isn't a thing on Monday:

I fully believe that anyone who devotes any substantial amount of attention/energy to an internet message board (and by the same token, mainstream social media) is fundamentally a loser.

Counterpoint. At least those of us who spend a little time each week on a message board have developed the maturity, self awareness, and graciousness to not be a complete jerk in calling someone else a loser for how they decide to spend their time.

Hornfans, Shaggy and Surly have contributed to me being much more knowledgeable politically. I am a better person in interacting with people of differing opinions because of message boards. I have had some of the best vacations of my life because of message boards. I have a few real life friends because of message boards. I relate to different generations better because of message boards.

I retired early because I was financially able to do so and have some spare time to learn, reflect, grow, and engage with others. A message board is one of many ways to do that. I try not to judge how others live.

Maybe you don’t have life all figured out just yet. Maybe.

  10. If some of you, like me, have been struggling to better understand the conflict, go to the Fire Rodney Terry thread and start with post 2060. Then quickly scan the Derka interactions to the end. You will see three things happening:

    1. Derka banging the concept strongly (irritatingly?) that Terry was the wrong choice and a lot of posters unhappy with that.

    2. Some pretty aggressive responses to his views.

    3. Him pointing out that aggressiveness.

    4. A few subtle shots at him.

I compared my thought process when I originally read those posts awhile back to when I read them now.

When I scan threads I usually do it quickly and skip over stuff, never reading anything too closely. Originally, I remember thinking that Derka always calls other posters combative when they are just disagreeing with him. So it seemed like he was starting fights.

Now when I read them after seeing this thread I do see how some of the comments towards him are either more aggressive or subtle jabs. The reason I didn’t notice them before is because I often see other people  on the receiving end of similar styles of posts.

So in my opinion, I see both sides of the issue. Derka probably is the recipient of more aggressive posts. There are other posters on surly that also are often on the receiving end of aggressive posts. Derka struggles more than others to take that, and hence this thread.

Maybe everyone on this site should just tone down the rhetoric a bit in general. Being personally mean to people isn’t very healthy for anyone.

You and I could banter back and forth ok. Hey that’s a stupid take. Ok. Folks goat him into a reaction so they can argue with him and tell him how much he overreacts. The goal isn’t to converse but to cause the reaction and then blame him for it.  It’s more about intent. You tell me my take is stupid you’re probably pretty genuine about it. Those constantly goating derka do it to get the rise then slam him for it. Then tell him to take a break for his mental health. It’s fucking gas lighting and it’s bullying.

Ah got it. Shit I didn’t realize anyone would do that. That’s bad.

  12. I have to admit I’m really confused by the whole bullying concept being referenced. Every day all day long I see posters on surly ripping other posters for their opinions, their posts, their screwing up of threads, etc. I don’t quite get how the ripping of derka is different than what I read elsewhere. Is it because he has some personal challenges? If that’s it, then I get it. But if that’s the case then immamac’s requirement that Derka’s conduct has to meet some minimum standard doesn’t seem unreasonable. And that’s where I struggle with this whole controversy.
