Posting on this thread from the French Quarter to cry victim about people monitoring this thread is extremely on brand. What a bitch.

Don’t ban this guy, please.  Can’t wait to see what this guy has cooked up for Fat Tuesday.
“I can still be drunk on oysters and bourbon, sniffing blow off Jennifer Aniston’s taint if Mike Pence had the courage to do what’s right!”

The amount of people that care about rep in this place is fucking hysterical.  Amazingly, these all seem to be MAGA types who talk about the pussification of America.  Their warped sense of reality and belief in what is right is absolutely mind blowing.

Awesome.  I’m a former poster on ancestral boards, created an account to post in a thread @immamacstarted in $9.95, seemingly to solicit honest feedback about what plagues him, he segregates my comments in a new thread I didn’t title, and I get negged into oblivion by @PenelopeWitherspoonand other cunts like her.

I’m at the Ritz in the Quarter, beyond pissed about what I witnessed tonight down the street. I don’t know most of you in real life, and so for the people monitoring this thread, you can go fuck yourselves.

What?!!! NYT indulging in sketchy journalism by taking random data points to spin a narrative? I would have never guessed!

Look how the smug reporter implies that Texas recruited OL Class only because of $50K per year. Flood handled it well, imo.

A lot of idiocy here.  Par for the course on the football board.  The article is fair, and anyone denigrating The NY Times without actually reading the article brought in politics all by their lonesome.  Then again, maybe reading is too hard a task for these posters.

Helsinki has a coupla days in it - take the ferry out to Suomenlinna for sure. Then, get out in the country. If you’re there in the summer, the thing to do is rent a cabin on a lake. You build a fire. Drink. Sauna. Plunge into the cold lake. Repeat. We very much have that on our agenda. We also went to Fiskars, which your wife would likely enjoy (a restored village with lots of craftsmen), and Turku, which has some great waterfront activities and history. Honestly, we’d love to spend a good week plus in Finland one summer.

Oh, and agree on the Vasa - it’s a must-see, one of the cooler things we’ve ever seen.

We love Copenhagen. You can end up eating multiple meals at the Torvehallern food hall. There’s an outpost of Grod there, which is a “porridge” restaurant - my wife tries to have us eat breakfast there every day. And nearby is Host, a fantastic high end place that actually isn’t too pricey, and you can usually get a reservation if you get on it sufficiently ahead of time. As for stuff to do, all the usual (seriously, pull up any guide on the city).

I didn’t know you were a Host fan. I love that place.

Leaving now, stayed at the Refinery. Have to say that compared to a few of the other places we have stayed, we really liked it. Decent size rooms, restaraunts and rooftop were both good, people were great, near Bryant Park (Christmas village was packed this week) and the subway, easy access from the airport, etc. We will probably move more towards SoHo next time as that seems to be where they all want to spend their time.

We had our holiday party at the Refinery (rented out the rooftop). We were stuck in the elevator for 45 minutes to start the night.  Lol.

For NYE, we are doing the Olive Garden party again.  Some vids from last year.

Have any of you NYC residents eaten at Rao's? If so, please describe the experience. From what I've gathered, it's impossible to get a table there.

Never eaten there, but during the pandemic, got takeaway from there.  Honestly, better Italian all over the city.

Had a great meal at Roscioli in the West Village.  I also enjoy Emilio's Ballato on Houston and Via Carota.  Haven't been to Rezdora in ages, but it was solid last time I went.  The pasta at Jupiter is very, very good, especially the rabbit.  Foul Witch and Raf's also lean heavily Italian.

However, my go to in Scalinatella (E 61st and 3rd).  Just tell them to take care of you, and they do.

Any specific recs? Copenhagen and Stockholm can be covered easily in 3 days each (even though we like to camp out in a city and just go slowly to get the vibes) so we can be flexible with planning.

Make sure you do the boat garage (Vasa museum) in Stockholm. That was fun. And eat some picked herring. I love that shit.

    Agree on the Vasa.

Saltburn. I thought the story was good. A little edgy for the sake of being edgy. I could have done without the recap “how I did it” at the end.
Visually it was really nice. The colors and saturation really well done. Shot by Linus Sandgren (LaLa Land, Don’t Look Up, Babylon) on 35mm.

I loved the dance scene at the end.  Good for Barry K.

  9. Anyone that bleats that the Civil War was about State's Rights, ask them exactly what right the States that succeeded wanted to maintain.  The answer is, to continue to enslave people of color.

The answer boils down to slavery.  Anyone that tries to argue against that is an idiot.

Maybe. But in the other boards, you’ll at least have some discussion.  CR is unchecked looney tunes.

    22 hours ago, BP44 said:

Kind of. Where I go to get my sports and entertainment fix isn’t political in the slightest. I’m aware some have politics forums, but I don’t go there. I don’t care what Texags has to say, and I don’t care what CR has to say. Other Texas boards simply do not have such distracting, divisive content.

    22 hours ago, BP44 said:

I’m not a sock. I’ve been around since HF days. HF was very discussion-oriented and balanced. Shaggy leaned more left than you recall but certainly was more balanced. I’m not politically inclined and don’t really care too much - except CR makes Texas look as bad as Texags and their idiotic politics forum.

    22 hours ago, BP44 said:

Boards like this don’t have political forums. Cloak Room is an embarrassment to the university.

It spills out to Daily Texan, 6th Street Journal, and Board Discussion in every other thread. It turns off would-be newcomers and advertisers.

That forum is not a discussion forum. It’s an ideology circle jerk. It doesn’t belong with the other forums and certainly not one designed around school sports.

    On 12/26/2023 at 5:16 PM, BP44 said:

Your problem - your entire problem - is the lack of separation of Cloak Room from the rest of the site. You’ll never have an anchor sponsor with this setup, unless it’s some rando fringe Austin group. Not only are the politics wildly left, it’s such an echo chamber that the posters there think they’re mainstream. They’re emboldened to post in other forums and are like a terrible virus to the site. I can’t believe how you haven’t learned this.

Most people want to come here to talk Texas football first, pro sports and other Texas sports second, and then current events / TV/movies / business. If they want a political forum outlet, it should be separate from the group.

    22 hours ago, BP44 said:

There are very, very few posters that engage in CR. It is the epitome of groupthink. There’s no original thought or discussion that isn’t anger-laced and emotionally-driven.

    21 hours ago, BP44 said:

    Hence @immamac’s dilemma.

There’s a lot to be upset about politically these days. I understand. But CR is an embarrassment and you know it.

    My first pos rep.

HF was center. I know several that got banned by Katy for abbreviating “Palis” during an aughts Levant conflict.  Shag was very balanced. We’ve gone increasingly right to left over the last 20 years which is very understandable (as have I).

It’s the fucking Hanna Barbera cartoon soundboard.  It’s nuts. There is no room for any opposing viewpoint (and in a lot of cases with the right these days, there IS no opposing viewpoint).  Your summary judgement about me versus them is par for the course. I’m only commenting in the thread asking for opinions.

    This.

    18 hours ago, BP44 said:

    Agreed for the most part.

Not at all. Which, to this and troph’s post, explain the increasingly leftist movement. I get it. And I realize I’m speaking to two of the most prolific CR’ers.

So while there’s not much to cheer about while the former president has hijacked a lot and given rise to true deplorables, the tone is absolutely ridiculous.

Guess we can add $9.95 to the boards hijacked by CR.

    9 hours ago, BP44 said:

I keep pushing it because I firmly believe it, and it’s obvious. I’m not going to list examples for anyone - they are there for all to see. The purpose of the thread initially was to solicit feedback. Now, immamac has oddly separated the threads. The original one was in $9.95.

    8 hours ago, BP44 said:

I’d never start a thread here bitching about the CR.  @immamacplease delete this thread.  The context is lost due to your separation of threads.

  12. Thinking about doing this next winter.  I usually am in London in December, so extending a week is easy to do.  I have done Colmar, France at Christmas and it should definitely make everyone's short lists.  So many amazing places to choose from!

Put a note in the collection plate - “hey fuckstick…enjoy poverty! Merry Christmas!” He’ll read it…he’ll be rifling through the collections.

Alas, the collection plate on my side didn't go to him.  I was on the second row in the left side, right near the nativity.  He was in the center (second or third row).

I was seated closer to Mayor Adams.  My spot was strategic, I was able to get the hell out when they started the recessional and grab a cab and come home.
