Okay. Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't think "2 or 3 fastest" differentiated by position. I would agree he'll be one of the 2 or 3 fastest RBs every time he steps on the field.
Not all those guys stick. Â Since 2022, top 10 guys in the 40 are Kalinin Barnes, Tyquan Thornton, Velus Jones, Calvin Austin. Â Several of things are rostered but have minimal impact this far.
Â
I actually scanned back to 2018 the other day.  There were a number of guys that didn’t make much of an impact.

30 NFL draft picks across both teams certainly didn't have any bearing on his success.
I’m not sure Craig Krenzel had that much support.

I had dtv stream for years. If you have a plan that has sec network, then you can use your dtvstream login and password on the espn app and that should get you sec+ (and all the espn/abc family stuff that’s not espn+). Â
I’ll give that a shot.  Thanks.
Weve got so many user names/logins that I don’t know what’s logged into what.

I subscribe directly to ESPN+ and can't get this game. Guess what subscription I am canceling?
It shouldn’t be this hard to get the games, should it?

Disney + gets you Disney +. The bundle gets you d+ and Hulu and espn +. Â None of which gets you sec+.Â
I’ve tried multiple things.  I have DIRECTV stream.  Any idea what my options are?  Other than to hang out @HenryJameshouse.

I think so.
Anyway my wife has used this incident to justify her buying a new TV, which she wanted anyway. I guess I will see how it goes on the new TV.
I was told thru Disney+ that subscription does not get you live content on ESPN+ or something along those lines.  I had it thru the bundle last year and was trying to do the same this year.  It failed so I reached out, and that’s what they passed along.

I cannot even get it. I can watch the Big 12 on ESPN+ but if I do our game it says "you are not authorized to view this content" with no explanation on how to become authorized.
But TCU vs Tarleton State? I can watch that no problem. SEC sucks.
Out of curiosity are you going thru the Disney+ bundle to get espn+?

He can't excel with crappy quarterback play.

The older I get the more bitter I become. I’m a big Worthy, the football player, fan.  No, he’s not perfect, but he’s a unique player.  He was open more tonight too than the passes he caught.
The lack of 50/50 balls and press coverage.  Yeah, no shit he’ll struggle with that.  But if you’re there OC, the press coverage is largely on you.  And well the 50/50 will be offset with plenty of plays with separation.
The lack of tracking the ball was always a bit of bs. Â But posters were dismissive of alternate theories.

How did we not win a championship with Worthy on the roster. JesusÂ
He can’t get off press coverage.  He can’t track the ball.

Good play stickers were for varsity only. The coaches at my school were shitheads freshman year who only played the same 15 kids both ways having just them rotate while me and 30 other guys never(or rarely) got to play. Since they didn't take attendance for away games, we would all go home instead since we knew weren't gonna get to play. I gave the middle finger to the football program and joined the wrestling team instead. Best decision I ever made. Â
I’ve seen similar in just the past 3 years.  Not the attendance but the play time.  Most of the kids get a little special teams work but for some they got little beyond that.  This would even be “A” team players.

Ewers made throws this year - multiple throws - that were better than anything I've seen any QB in burnt orange throw, going all the way back to the Gardere days when I started watching.
He also looked really bad after his injury. Even then, he was still making amazing throws into tight windows.
Which ones exactly?

Not how I remember it going down, but neither of us are going to actually dig through it, so let’s agree that Major was better and part as friends.Â
I did look through it.  I was curious/interested enough to look.  That’s what I came up with.
It was a long time ago so specific details get a little fuzzy.
I am not making a claim as to which one is better. Â They both had some good moments and both had some less than good ones. Â Just laying the details.

Didn't Applewhite getting his knee messed up on the bowl game vs AR have a lot to do with things as well. He missed almost all the offseason so Simms had all the reps, and then started the next season
I don’t remember the specifics, but, yes, he had a knee issue that was impactful.  Arkansas sounds right.
Looking back both of them had a number of 3/4 turnover games. Â We know it, but Stoops had our number beyond 1999. Â They throttled us several times, but 12-0 in 2004 is pretty bad too.

I don’t remember the details, but something like 4-5 of Chris Simms “victories” as a starter  are in games where he was bailed out by Major Applewhite.Â
I’m not sure this is correct.  1999 was pretty much Majors job.  Simms only threw 36 passes all year per sports-reference.com.  Simms started at A&M, think he left with the lead, we lost.
In 2000, Simms only threw double digit passes in 5 games.  The opener in which Major threw almost twice as many passes.  Simms started.  Houston Major threw no TDs, Simms 1. Simms started.  We won 48-0.  Major started versus OU.  We lost anyway.  Then the final two regular season games which Major didn’t play.  So maybe 2 but hard to say we lose when the other team scores nothing.
In 2001, Major only threw more than 5 passes in the CU game not including the bowl game.
Â
So looks like maybe 2, both of which chances are we win anyway.

I got several sheets worth. Â While still on the sheets. Â Caused they stopped giving them out the year I had the chance to earn them. Â For the helmet that is.

Nope. Not even close to what I said. The point is appropriate: Colt was a great player who also played with good and great players. It was merely a counterpoint to the implication that Ewers played with a bunch of somebodies while Colt played with a bunch of nobodies. You can note that only the players Ewers played with, many of whom are not in the NFL (but may very well be), were mentioned while none of who Colt played with were mentioned.
Source for Smith or Hix or Huey? Google for the teams and times. As for the others, they were taken from Texas 2-deep depth charts with supplemental information from Wikipedia, NFL.com, Texas press releases, and other sources. I had to ask my brother about a few. If they had meaningful stats, they got mentioned. If they didn't even if they were on the 2-deep, I didn't mention them.
But you raise a fair point. A more appropriate comparison might be Colt's RS-FR year to RS-SO year in comparison to Quinn's RS-SO year to RS-JR year given the personnel losses. It's still worth pointing out that RS-SO Colt had those stats with Jamaal, Jermichael, and others on the team. It wasn't like the cupboard was bare. And, sure, Gunnar was on the team in 2023 but JT was starting and Gunnar didn't exactly take up the majority of the snaps, unlike Shipley who was a huge contributor from pretty much day one. Not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison between Helm and Shipley over multiple years.
Â
I took a little liberty with the Colt being overrated comment in response you saying he was not god-like.
I had looked up Huey, Hix, Smith. Â I found no evidence they ever played in the NFL beyond pre-season. Â David Snow did play 5 games however. Â No Olineman on the 2008 or 2009 teams were drafted. Not even the backups.
In 2007, only Tony Hills was drafted off the Oline. Â Sendlein, Studdard, Blalock were gone. Â Sweed, Selvin, Ramonce gone. Â Finley was a good pass catcher but not sure he was interested in blocking. Â Shipley was a relative non-factor in 2007.
For 2008-09, no TEs drafted, 2 WRs drafted (one was drafted because he was fast).  Goodwin was a track guy that Colt threw to as a frosh.  Shipley.  Quan was a great college player but in spite of his rookie season NFL accolades didn’t even have 10 NFL catches.  Chris O as a 7th rounder (recruited as a WR I believe).  None on the Oline.  That’s it.
For back-to-back top 5 teams, I’d be surprised if you could find such a limited roster on one side of the ball.

He led the comeback in Dallas vs CU after Simms shit the bed and if not for a Gieggar roughing the punter under 2 minutes, we would have played for a natty. He led the big comeback vs UW in San Diego also after Simms shit the bed in that one too.
Â
Maybe you like Major more than most cause you give him credit for shit he didn’t do.
Simms did not play a lick in San Diego. Â It was The Major that turned it over 3/4 times in that first half.
Seems as though some tag Simms with an OU loss even though he didn’t start.

I'm "acting." You mean in the context of Derka arguing that he would take two-year-older RS-SR Colt McCoy over two-year-younger RS-SO Quinn Ewers? Why are you so obtuse? Is it intentional? Fuck, you must live a miserable fucking life. Two years greater physical, emotional, and mental maturity makes a huge difference at that age, as does being able to play ball with your primary receiver for 3-4 years rather than having complete turnover in your WR corps and RB corps. What I'm offering, including empirical evidence, is that Quinn doesn't suck as much as you dimwitted fucktards are saying and Colt wasn't the God you make him out to be. Why don't you fuck right off into the Sun, you miserable little shitstain?
Fair to jump BO&W. Â Fair to argue with Derks.
let’s discuss the simplicity of age being the factor you highlight regarding maturity.  Go ahead and ignore the differences between Southlake and Tuscola.  Both on and off the field.  I’m guessing that 2A speed on the high school field was almost what he saw at Texas.  I’d be damn curious to see a comparison of the two high school workout facilities.  You know to see the options for that physical maturity could have developed.
Then let’s discuss ball and how one QB got to play with his primary receiver and the complete turnover at his WR and RBs.
By my count, Helm was the leading receiver. Â He was here all the time Ewers was here. Â Blue ended last year as a primary RB. Â He even logged more plays than Baxter versus UW. Â Here 3 years. Â 4th on the team in catches this year - 2 behind Wisner. Â Moore was #2 of the WRs in catches this year. Â Yes, I believe the lack of continuity was impactful but at least be accurate.
Â
And where exactly did you get your NFL experience?  I was curious and looked up a few guys.  I couldn’t find Greg Smith or Hix or Huey ever played a down.  Think it was Huey that was signed then cut, signed then cut.  Colt got 1-2 years with a high percentage of those offensive guys you referenced. Â
But nice job highlighting many offensive guys that were gone after Colts freshman year.  Only to be replaced guys that were not of similar caliber.  His last two years what offensive guys were drafted?  Shipley and Chris O?  I guess Marquise who was a freshman (but I guess doesn’t count as turnover).
He compiled stats. Â He compiled wins. Â He carried the offense. Â He took a beating. Â He made plays when he needed to make plays. Â He did it with his legs. Â With his arm.
Yeah, pretty much overrated. Â

And aggys only pints this year came on a Bond fumble.  What’s your point?
Stuff happens.  Sometimes you’re lucky; sometimes not.
Lots of massive plays in that USC game.  We made many of those.  That failed interception was their missed opportunity.  If that doesn’t happen 4th and 5 doesn’t happen.
Gardere may be 4-0 versus OU but at least in one he was the beneficiary of tremendous defense.
For me, an isolated play or game doesn’t define any player.  I dont discount a player like Colt simply because he didn’t win it all.  Just like I don’t consider winning a championship to mean that player is greater than another who didn’t.

Thank goodness for the Ting brothers. Â Or at least one of them.
Wasn’t Peter the Great QB when we beat OU 10-7?  And the TD was Bubba Jacques scoop and score.

Look. I am an old guy. I never saw Layne at college, but did see him in the pros.. He was one of the best in the pros. The team Street came to at Texas had gone 6-4, 6-4,6-4 in '65. '66, '67.... In '68 under Bradley we started the season with a loss and a tie...against power houses TT and U of H....
Street replaced Bradley and never lost a game. That deserves respect.
Now....let's talk about Colt. He was fabulous.....and let's never forget that he got us in a Title game and was on his way to curb stomping one of the greatest teams of all time when a bounty hunter takes him out. Had he been able to finish that game, the debate would be between him and Vince as the best ever...
Those are some very good points on Street.  Presumably that early in converting the offense, those reads are more difficult too simply because he hadn’t had a ton of reps yet.
As for Colt, think about it, two years running he basically left the game with the lead (technically he had 1 second versus Tech, and were driving versus Bama but hadn’t scored yet).  That’s pretty incredible.

I stand corrected. Thanks for bringing facts to the discussion. Was going off of eye test and clearly my eyes lied. Or I was just giving him too much credit for 2023.
I find the numbers interesting. Â This year, I do question Sark for several things. Â As thatguy points out, we have limited stationary targets. Â I agree with that statement but as a fan disagree with the philosophy. Â I also question in year 4 why we had such limited initially recruited out of high school talent. Â I like Moore and Wingo, but they were young with limited reps. Â Where were the 2nd/3rd year guys with some reps? Â I think the transfer reliance does hinder continuity between QB/WR.
As for Ewers, not that my opinion matters, but I put no limits on him at the next level.  He does have a few rather unique characteristics.  But it’s so often about the right timing in the right environment.  That is out of his control.  Him being successful at the next level would not surprise me at all.

2025 NFL Draft

That’s a little surprising but not terribly so.  Probably a number of small guys and special teams guys that double as WRs.  But your boy Worthy is coming on.
Cook looked pretty solid. Â Low propensity to turn it over. Â Can move. Â He may be an interesting prospect.
