  1. We suck. Given up as many runs today as the entire 3 game series last year.
  2. Looks like Nixon has only pitched one game for MSU. I’m not in a jinxing mood. But I think Pierce gets a lot of guys to reaching close to their potential but others tend to get relegated to the bench and/or limited opportunities for success. He’s a good coach with some frustrating tendencies. Sometimes those tendencies do work out well. The question does somewhat remain as to how good he is. I think Tulo was helpful, but I don’t think it was all him. For example, EK is having a much better season than the past two. His hands are higher in his stance this year. No idea whose impact that is. This season I feel he’s done better at keep more of the roster engaged. It remains to be seen whether that is an advantage come seasons end.
  3. There are reasons to be optimistic from here on out. We’re not without pop offensively. And Campbell is showing life. We’re pretty patient. We do take good swings. On the whole the UNO probably took more away than they gave away this weekend. Some youngest guys are showing life. But also EK and Daly have looked poor on certain ABs then regroup and change that. UNO with 5 runs, 11 hits. They really didn’t threaten much and didn’t have that many hard hit balls. We have depth in the staff and the lineup. There’s a better lefty/righty mix than we’ve had pitching-wise. Our starting rotation could turn into a very solid grouping then with some bullpen depth leftover. I’m more optimistic than confident. It kinda feels as though the team is confident but in a good spot emotionally.
  4. Yeah, that’s probably it. Never mind.
  5. Not a fan of pulling LBJ. Is he a starter or not? 79 pitches is not that many but maybe it’s a slower progression. At this point, we’re going to conference with no one going very deep into the game. That could make it more interesting.
  6. And he’s a righty versus a righty? Both Flores and Belyeu had good ABs yesterday too. Guess Pierce is planning on blowing them out and getting lots of guys playing time.
  7. Pierce has been working Stehle for a significant role for two years. Tuesday starter isn’t that. Hurley has probably found his role - long relief. He’s a good hedge for any weekend starter who can’t go 6. He might even be able to close it out on a longer outing.
  8. Just to follow up on Powell, his first two years in 2020, 2021. He was a combined 7-22 with 3 doubles and 2 homers. Only 8 ABs last year. One of those ABs was a key RBI single versus USF to help send us to Omaha. No idea about his story, but in limited opportunities he has flashed potential. It’s hard to see him hitting.400 on the season, but he shows a lot of positives at the plate. Selection, bat control.
  9. It’s UNO. We’re still playing for the long term. You see how far Stehle can go.
  10. Yeah, this a good idea/possibility. Shore seems Morehouse is the closer with LBJ being the weekend guy. It will be interesting to see how Saturdays and Sundays are allocated. Do we go second best Saturday or hedge a bit to take advantage on Siunday.
  11. O’Dowd had 46 plate appearances versus 26. That’s a pretty significant difference. Powell that dude must like being at Texas and being a Longhorn. It ain’t all about the baseball for him or he would have left. Just think about if Flores and Thomas are hitting a lick, he doesn’t get the opportunities this year either. Maybe he grabs the DH role at some point. As best I can tell, he pinch hits the first 4 games then sits game 5. Just reading the box scores, it looks like a lefty-righty DH thing may have been happening. He was not a full fledged starter to start.
  12. I’m not a me first guy, but there’s a wide array of reasons for frustrations and what may be considered a good/bad attitude. And I don’t know Jack about how any of that went down. But from an invested fan perspective, his departure is my biggest disappointment in this roster. Because he’s talented. Because he was here. At the same time, I’m probably higher on the talent/skills of this roster than most. Unfortunately, one of the slowest starters resides at the same position. I’ll let several speculate, but there’s a decent chance we have 1-3 more wins if he were here this year.
  13. No, he wouldn’t have been the starter. Would we have been better had he been? Yes. I’m well aware of Greg Davis. I recall Matt McCoy one on one with BJ Johnson and miles of green grass in front of him. One the top rated WR recruit. One not. It wasn’t even close. Yet one of many examples of lesser talented dudes winning, particularly against OU. One of the problems, among many, is we’re so damn concerned with bullshit that it’s less about program building and getting as many quality football players as possible. That’s not about getting exceptions. That’s about finding guys who fit a role and serve a purpose within the program. Historically speaking, the recent Georgias and Bamas of the world don’t exist in the sense that there truly are layers and layers of talent. That didn’t even exist to their extent with unlimited scholarships. This is Sarks method, and he may pull it off. Without NIL and SEC backing, he wouldn’t have a chance. But if you’re asking me do I take a chance on a guy who produces like Bennett on an exception basis? Absolutely. Would I take guys to fill out rosters with a promise of hey you might get some playing time? Absolutely. Particularly in the portal era when guys who think they should be starting won’t be patient with a backup role. And occasionally that’s dudes who are fine with fulfilling that backup role for the entirety of their career.
  14. Well I can’t imagine he’s coached too many 1 win teams or that he’d coach long if he can’t do better. I understand the comment, but it’s a little odd when taken literally. That’s a little different than we’re better than a 1 win team.
  15. It’ll be interesting to see how well the ball carries once it heats up. Yeah, the competition pitching isn’t great, but we’ve had quite a few well hit outs over the past week. We’ve been selective and seen lots of pitches. If it comes together, we could have a quality offensive team.
  16. Basically he is old. And was undrafted last year. I like his skill set.
  17. I know, but he did have options to move on with his life. Whatever that looks like.
  18. In order to appease ctj, I’m going to credit Texas NIL a bit for EKs return this year. But truth is, I have no idea.
  19. Need to consider pitching backwards and knowing one weekend game is a bullpen day. Consider one of Stehle or Morehouse only going 3 then Hurley in long relief. It can have a similar effect but has him serving the same role. We need Gordon to get us to the 7th. Preferably Morehouse too. I’m not sure Stehle will be much more than a 3 inning guy.
  20. Exactly. Who should give a shit about his next level prospects. He can fill a role here and quite possibly pretty damn well. Gbenda can as well. It just may not be as a 3 down LBer.
