A&M readying for its biggest official visit weekend so far VIP ByBRIAN PERRONI 3 minutes ago Share 0 Comments Texas A&M has had a few big official visit weekends in the spring. However, on the final one before the dead period, they are set to host their biggest one so far. The Aggies will have a lot of fall officials, but this coming weekend will go a long way with some highly-ranked prospects. Two of the visitors set to be on campus are current commitments.-The Woodlands College Park offensive guard Josh Bankhead pledged to the Aggies the same day he was offered over a year ago. He has remained rock solid in his commitment and has been a vocal leader of the class. He has also grown close to Roy, which works with them both being in town the same weekend for their officials.-Fort Bend Hightower offensive guard Smart Chibuzo has also been committed to A&M for over a year. However, he has still made other visits and picked up several other offers since making the pledge last June. Earlier this spring, the 6-foot-5, 330-pound lineman said he planned to take other officials. It will be interesting to see if he changes his tone after this coming weekendThose two will be joined by another offensive lineman as well.Clear Creek offensive tackle Chad Lindberg has already used three of his officials, including one to LSU this past weekend. He plans to use the final two before the dead period begins next Monday and one of those will be to A&M. Lindberg is a fan of offensive line coach Josh Henson, so the Aggies have that going in their favor, but it will be tough to keep him from Texas. The defensive line will have a pair of national top-100 visitors as well. -Cy Ridge defensive end Vernon Broughton has one of his five allotted official visits left and will be using it to trip to A&M this coming weekend. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound defender was at Ohio State this past weekend and LSU the one before that. He has also visited Texas, but it could be Arkansas that is the biggest threat. His trip to Fayetteville went very well and the Hogs have a lot of momentum. Still, A&M had him on campus for a camp two weeks ago and he stayed the night after, so this will be his second trip to Aggieland in a short period. With all his officials out of the way, Broughton plans to make a decision before the end of the summer. -Baton Rouge (La.) U-High defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy was committed to LSU when he made an unofficial visit to A&M in February that lasted an entire weekend. He was joined on that trip by Joel Williams and Major Burns. The latter made a pledge to the Aggies at the time but has since backed off that and is now committed to LSU. Roy, though, decommitted from his home state school this spring. He is high on A&M but it will be an uphill battle vs. the Tigers, as well as against Alabama. A&M will be hosting one of the country's top running backs as well. -Folsom, Calif., all-purpose back Daniyel Ngata is ranked as the No. 48 overall prospect in the country and will be using his first official visit to come to Aggieland. He recently narrowed things to a somewhat-surprising top 7 that was missing some of the traditional West Coast powers. His older brother Joe just signed with Clemson as a wide receiver in the class of 2019 and the younger Ngata has the Tigers in his top group. However, them already having two running back pledges in the class could certainly help A&M. The other scheduled official visitor is still up in the air and likely won't be sure either way until late in the week. -St. Louis (Mo.) Lutheran North four-star linebacker Antonio Doyle had listed a top two of A&M and Missouri but had long been considered an Aggie lean. However, he surprised a lot of people by committing to the in-state Tigers on his official visit a little over a week ago. He returned to Columbia on an unofficial visit this past weekend. A&M still wants to get him on campus and his recruitment seems far from over, but will he decide to make his scheduled trip this weekend? If not, will he make one during the season? There could be another official visitor as well. -Memphis (Tenn.) Central national top-100 offensive lineman Chris Morris has been to Aggieland more times than probably any other out-of-state prospect in the class. The No. 87 overall prospect has A&M among his top two or three schools and says he might use his official visit this coming weekend. If not, he would use it for a game weekend. Morris will decide later in the week. The Aggies will get a big unofficial visitor as well. -Four-star Watson (La.) Live Oak defensive tackle Jalen Lee was offered by A&M during the spring evaluation period. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defender added a number of big offers around that time and has found himself a wanted man. He has yet to take any officials but says he will be in College Station this coming weekend on an unofficial visit. It will be tough to beat in-state LSU but he does not plan to make a decision for a while

Latest on Devon Achane Brian Perroni I've done a lot of asking around on this and have done my best to put the pieces together on everything. Also, I should give the caveat that is Daniyel Ngata shuts things down this coming weekend (I don't think he does anything this early but A&M is in good shape there), then much of this goes out the window. -Achane was scheduled to visit A&M a couple of times this past week. Once was supposed to be with Malik Hornsby and Warren Robinson for an unofficial visit Monday and the other was supposed to be for an unofficial visit Thursday when he did not make it on Monday. However, track got in the way of both. He had been in New Mexico over the weekend for a big track meet and didn't make it back in time to join Hornsby and Robinson. He also had a big track meet in North Carolina this past weekend that he was prepping for, so didn't make the trip on Thursday. Track is very serious to him and these were both big meets - especially the one in North Carolina. He was going to be riding with his coach and others players but had never really committed to either trip. It would have been nice for A&M to get him on campus bit it was not like he just decided he wasn't interested and blew it off or anything. -At this point, A&M is the only place Achane has ever been. He came for a game this past season. He is not really into the recruiting process and that is a perfect example showing it. Most 4-stars have been all over the place on visits. He just likes playing football and running track. Anything else is a distraction. -He had told me last month that he had an official set to UNC for this coming weekend. Talking to people, I doubt that happens. I will check later in the week, but it would surprise people if he made the visit. He also told me had a an official set to FSU for Oct. 25. The Seminoles want him and Hornsby both to visit but Taggart didn't want to do spring officials. Marshall has a late bye week, which is that Oct. 25 weekend, so Achane very tentatively set that up. There is talk that that one is unlikely to happen either. A lot of schools will be vying for that same weekend as Fort Bend Marshall is expected to go deep in the playoffs again, so he won't have many free weekends. -Achane REALLY wants to play running back. He had told me that, but I didn't quite understand the extent of how much he wants to. He likes Texas but they want him as a slot, so that's a big strike there for them. Not many schools have told him running back, but A&M is one of them. -The feeling around Achane is that he is not likely to go far from home. His mom wants to be able to see him play. He may take visits further, but some folks would be surprised if he ended up a long way away. That is again good news for A&M. Another school that could potentially make a move with both the RB and distance factors is TCU, but the Frogs have not recruited him all that hard. There was speculation that they didn't think they could legitimately be in it. -Achane is a guy that is a bit unpredictable because he dislikes the process so much. He could randomly commit somewhere tomorrow or he could ignore the whole thing until January or so and neither would surprise me. But, at this point, A&M checks all his boxes and is the only place he's been. The Aggies are in pretty good shape here. I am curious if he eventually decides he is more open to slot than he is currently - of if other schools decide to sell him on being a RB instead - but A&M can point to the fact they've always said RB and it is also close to home

4-star Umanmielen likes A&M scheme fit, has official scheduled VIP ByBRIAN PERRONI 11 minutes ago Share 2 Comments (Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports) Though most of the big visitors at Texas A&M this past week took part in camps, Manor four-star defensive end Princely Umanmielen is already one of the top overall Aggie targets in the class of 2020. The staff wanted him to make it to campus for an unofficial visit and continue to spend time in College Station. Umanmielen made the trip down Friday morning with Pflugerville Connally cornerback Jahdae Barron, who participated in camp, and the standout defensive end spent the rest of the day in Aggieland as well. "I watched my friend camp and then, after that, we sat in coach (Terry) Price's office and talked to him for a little bit," the 6-foot-4, 256-pound four-star prospect said. "Then we went out to eat with Bobby Brown and another player. After that, we sat with the team spiritual advisor, Mikado (Hinson). And then I sat and talked with the defensive coordinator, coach (Mike) Elko." The meeting with Elko made a lasting impression on Umanmielen as they went in-depth about how he would fit in A&M's defense. "Actually, it was crazy. He could be a lawyer with how convincing he is," Umanmielen said. "In my top five, all the defenses run a three-man front except for Oregon. And I told him that I wanted to be an edge player. "He pulled up A&M's defense and told me to point to where I would play. I pointed to the strong end. Then he pulled up Texas' defense and told me to point where I would play. It was a 4i (technique). He was telling me that, if I go to any other school in that top five, I'd be playing 4i for my whole college career. But, if I go to A&M, then I'll be playing what I want to play, which is the edge. And he was like, 'Remember, you're the one who pointed at it, not me.'" This was Umanmielen's third trip to Aggieland in the past few months. "It definitely helped them," he said of A&M. "It always does every time I go up there. I get more comfortable."2COMMENTS Up next for Umanmielen is a trip to Austin. Then, he has a couple official visits scheduled, including one to A&M. "I'm going to the Texas pool party. That's on June 22," he said. "And then I have my first two officials set up. I'm going to A&M from Oct. 11-13. My Oklahoma official, it's the weekend that they play UH (Aug. 30-Sep. 1). Those are the two I've set so far

Big Board: An early look at the class of 2021 in Texas By BRIAN PERRONI Jan 16, 7:00 AM With the recruiting dead period over and college coaches on the road again, much of their focus will be on underclassmen. Though they will be watching the class of 2020 a bit closer, they will also have their eyes out for top prospects in the class of 2021. Though it is still two years until they sign, the 2021 class is already shaping up to be one of the better ones in recent memory for the Lone Star State. GigEm247 has put together a big board for the class. Though it will definitely see changes between now and when they sign, all of these players have emerged as potential FBS prospects. The list is in order for each position but some, like wide receiver and offensive line, were hard to rank, especially at the top. QUARTERBACK Preston Stone, Dallas Parish Episcopal (6-2/185): Stone already holds over 50 offers and has put up huge numbers the past two seasons. Eli Stowers, Denton Guyer (6-4/205):You won’t find a more athletic quarterback in the state and Stowers has a very strong arm. Dematrius Davis, North Shore (5-11/190): The dual-threat prospect showed in the state title game how much he has improved as a passer. He threw 43 touchdown passes with only 2 interceptions. Behren Morton, Eastland (6-3/180):Morton is a very accurate passer than can run if needed and that has drawn recruiters to the small town of Eastland. Shedeur Sanders, Cedar Hill Trinity Christian (6-1/180): The son of Deion, the younger Sanders already has two state titles under his belt and is a polished passer. Jalen Milroe, Katy Tompkins (6-1/175):The dual-threat passer helped lead Tompkins to its first-ever playoff berth and was incredibly dynamic in doing so. Sawyer Robertson, Lubbock Coronado (6-3/185): He doesn’t get a ton of attention out in Lubbock, but Robertson put up some huge numbers this year and has very good size. Daniel Greek, Argyle Liberty Christian (6-4/228): Greek is a huge kid in the pocket and hard to bring down. He also has a very strong arm. Nate Yarnell, Lake Travis (6-5/180) Garrett Nussmeier, Flower Mound Marcus (6-0/165) Lucas Coley, Converse Judson (6-2/187) Simeon Evans, Dallas Bishop Dunne (5-11/170) Jacob Rodriguez, Wichita Falls Rider (6-2/205) General Booty, San Antonio Cornerstone (6-2/180) Charles Wright, Austin High (6-1/185) Bronson McClelland, Katy (6-0/210) Taylen Green, Allen (6-2/170) Hampton Fay, Aledo (6-5/200) Kaidon Salter, Cedar Hill (6-1/170) Tyler Webb, Bosqueville (6-3/190) Finn Nicholson, Cypress Bridgeland (6-0/170) Wyatt Begeal, Cibolo Steele (6-0/180) Ace Whitehead, Lampasas (5-10/180) Darion Peace, Malakoff (6-0/170) RUNNING BACK Camar Wheaton, Garland Lakeview Centennial (6-1/190): Wheaton burst onto the scene with a 400-yard game in the playoffs as a freshman and he has an incredible blend of size and speed. De'Anthony Lewis, Converse Judson (5-10/185): Judson was loaded with DI prospects this year but it was too hard to keep the ball out of Lewis’ hands. LJ Johnson, Cy-Fair (5-10/195): Cy-Fair lost a lot of talent from its state title team but Johnson was able to step up as a power back for the Bobcats. Montaye Dawson, Mansfield Timberview (5-7/165): Dawson is a great receiver out of the backfield and is tough to bring down. Ke'ori Hicks, Denton Ryan (5-11/185) Casey Shorter, Katy Taylor (5-10/190) Aaron Dumas, El Paso Americas (5-9/185) Jordan Jenkins, Lindale (6-1/195) Tavierre Dunlap, Del Valle (6-0/193) Caleb Berry, Lufkin (6-0/190) Nathan Sims, Athens (5-11/200) Brandon Fielding, Eastland (5-10/220) Roderick Brown, College Station (5-10/190) Brandon Campbell, Katy Taylor (5-10/181) Chris Hicks, Cedar Hill (5-9/160) Cam Davis, South Oak Cliff (5-8/170) Tylan Hines, Plano (5-6/165) Darius Hale, Pasadena Dobie (5-10/205) Marvin Lewis, Hempstead (5-9/200) Eligia Carter, Gladewater (5-11/175) Peter McFarlin, Elgin (5-10/180) Brice Lane, Goose Creek Memorial (6-0/190) WIDE RECEIVER Bryson Green, Allen (6-1/175): The younger brother of former Allen QB Seth Green, Bryson is a good route-runner and should be the go-to wideout for the Eagles next year. Latrell Neville, Fort Bend Willowridge (6-2/190): Neville is a big receiver with surprising speed. He can move the chains or hit a home run. Cody Jackson, Richmond Foster (6-1/165): Once thought to be a quarterback prospect, Jackson can play outside or in the slot. He is a big-time playmaker. JoJo Earle, Aledo (5-8/165): Earle is incredibly tough to tackle when he gets the ball in open space. He has very good speed. Blaine Green, Allen (6-1/175): The twin brother of Bryson, Blaine is also a standout receiver and will give Allen one of the state’s best duos next year. Ketron Jackson, Lancaster (6-2/170):Lancaster is loaded at the skill positions and Jackson should see his stock soar going forward. Deamikkio Nathan, South Grand Prairie (6-0/170) Majik Rector, Lancaster (5-9/155) Brandon Buckhaulter, Cedar Hill Trinity Christian (6-2/180) Dylan Goffney, Cypress Bridgeland (6-0/185) Charles King, North Shore (6-0/182) Joseph Manjack, Alief Hastings (6-3/180) Jaedon Wilson, Cedar Hill (6-1/160) Carlton Guidry, Alvin Shadow Creek (5-10/165) Jerand Bradley, Plano John Paul II (6-5/190) Jaddai Henry, Hebron (6-4/192) Brady Boyd, Richland (6-1/175) Chris Washington, Livingston (6-3/165) Cam Nelson, Dallas Kimball (6-0/181) John Paul Richardson, Fort Bend Ridge Point (5-11/165) Landen King, Atascocita (6-3/190) Tyler Stott, Cypress Bridgeland (6-0/190) CJ Baskerville, Katy (6-2/170) TIGHT END Devon Martin, Mesquite Poteet (6-5/240): With many high school tight ends being bigger receivers, Martin is already a well-round player at the position. Colby Powers, Klein Collins (6-4/235):Collins has a run-heavy offense, so Powers can block. But, when his number is called, he is also a very good receiver. Jack Witmer, Cy-Fair (6-6/225): Cy-Fair runs the ball a lot. Witmer did not have a ton of opportunities in the passing game but was still a unanimous all-district selection because of his blocking abilities. He is a big target, though, and runs well after the catch. Tommy Dunn, Garland Naaman Forest (6-3/245): Dunn, who could also potentially be recruited as a defensive lineman, does a good job of moving the chains and is also a solid blocker. Jake Norman, Katy (6-5/215): Norman did not see a ton of catches at the state powerhouse as a sophomore, but he is a player to watch going forward. Colton Price, North Shore (6-7/205):Price was brought up to varsity late in the season as North Shore had FBS prospects all over the field. The Mustang staff is very high on him, though. Paul Lawson, Gainesville (6-3/245) Kameron Allen, North Forney (6-5/205) Lake McRee, Lake Travis (6-5/205) Var'Keyes Gumms, Spring Dekaney (6-3/230) Dayeton Sweeting, Montgomery Lake Creek (6-2/230) OFFENSIVE LINE Reuben Fatheree, Richmond Foster (6-7/300): Also a standout basketball player, Fatheree has the ideal build of a left tackle and could push for honors as the top player in the state for the class. Bryce Foster, Katy Taylor (6-4/295):Foster played guard this year as Taylor had two DI tackles but will move to tackle next year. He and the first five or six guys on this list all could almost be interchanged in these rankings as it is such a great year at OL and they are the elite prospects. Hayden Conner, Katy Taylor (6-5/300):Conner played tackle with Foster at guard. A former tight end in 7-on-7, he has the athleticism to be an elite left tackle. Donovan Jackson, Houston Episcopal (6-3.5/305): Jackson may not have the prototypical height for a tackle, but he has the length to play it. There’s a reason why he has offers from the who’s who of schools across the country. Tommy Brockermeyer, Fort Worth All Saints (6-6/268): The son of former Texas and NFL OT Blake, Tommy used to be a defensive end and brings that athleticism to the tackle spot. He has the feet of a left tackle as well. Erick Cade, Denton Braswell (6-7/300):A huge lineman already, Cade had all kinds of schools coming to a new Braswell school this past spring. Luis Chavarria, Houston Episcopal (6-4/285): Episcopal has three big-time offensive linemen in the class and ‘LuLu’ has a chance to be a nationally-recruited player. Cullen Montgomery, Houston Episcopal (6-5/290): Montgomery plays tackle opposite Jackson at Episcopal and his size and footwork have him holding offers already. Savion Byrd, Duncanville (6-4/240): Byrd has seen his stock soar a bit as of late. An athletic tackle prospect, he could also play defensive end. Cayman Duncan, Houston Kinkaid (6-6/305): Though he has yet to pick up his first offer, Duncan is a player that is on the radar of a ton of schools already. His father Daryl played basketball at Texas A&M. Remington Strickland, Fort Bend Christian (6-4/295) Augustus Rice, Waller (6-5/300) Jacoby Jackson, Mansfield Summit (6-5/300) Jack Tucker, Argyle (6-6/250) Billy Thursland, Houston Heights (6-2/275) Bryce Ganious, Houston Westbury Christian (6-2/270) Caleb Rodkey, Fort Bend Ridge Point (6-4/320) Tim Marwitz, Temple Central Texas Christian (6-4/260) DEFENSIVE END Tunmise Adeleye, Katy Tompkins (6-3/255): Adeleye’s freshman film was ridiculous but it was not varsity competition. Turns out, he was just as good at the highest level. He has a chance to be the state’s top player. Landon Jackson, Texarkana Pleasant Grove (6-4/225): Jackson burst onto the scene as a dominant pass rusher as a freshman. He is coming off an ACL tear but should be fine going forward. Landyn Watson, Hutto (6-3/230): Also potentially a linebacker prospect, Watson has incredible get-off on the edge. There’s a reason he has so many offers. Ja'tavion Sanders, Denton Ryan (6-4/215): Sanders is a bit under the radar at the moment, but it won’t be that way for long. He could also be a top tight end recruit if he chooses to play offense. Shemar Turner, DeSoto (6-3/241):Turner is already a big defensive end and could potentially end up as a 5-tech, but he is athletic for his size. Jordon Thomas, Port Arthur Memorial (6-3/240) Dametrious Crownover, Grandview (6-6/210) Marcus Burris, Texarkana Pleasant Grove (6-4/240) E'maurion Banks - Wichita Falls Rider (6-4/250) David Abiara - Mansfield Legacy (6-3/230) Albert Regis, La Porte (6-3/240) Tristin Drones-Mouton, Fort Bend Marshall (6-1/251) Miquel Massey, Fort Worth Paschal (6-4/205) Vince Sheffield, A&M Consolidated (6-1/220) Jaymond Jackson, Lindale (6-2/205) DEFENSIVE TACKLE Elijah Bowser, Cedar Hill Trinity Christian (6-5/295): Bowser plays both ways but has very high upside on the defensive line. He looked like an upperclassman at a camp when he was only in 8th grade and could become a national name. Rod Brown, Dallas Kimball (6-1/265):Brown is a very quick player on the interior. He gives opposing guards fits in getting to the passer. Byron Murphy II, DeSoto (6-2/250) Ikechukwu Iwunnah, Garland Lakeview Centennial (6-2/250) Jaiden Jones, Frisco Lone Star (6-8/307) Kolton May, Midlothian Heritage (6-2/260) LINEBACKER Kendrick Blackshire, Mesquite Horn (6-2/245): Blackshire is ranked as the nation’s top inside linebacker. He does a great job of filling gaps and coming downhill. Jai Jones, South Oak Cliff (6-1/215):Jones is very quick off the edge and can drop into coverage well. He saw a ton of offers this past spring for a reason. Derrick Harris Jr., New Caney (6-2/205): Harris simply made plays all over the field as a sophomore, finishing with 83 tackles and 21.5 tackles for loss. He loves contact as well. Kenny Seymour, Clear Falls (6-2/225):Seymour should see a lot of attention because he is a good player but also because he plays inside and there are not many true middle linebacker prospects out there in the state. Frank Osagiede, Fort Bend Ridge Point (6-1/205) Jalen Jones, South Oak Cliff (5-10/195) Jeremiah Bodwin, Dallas Bishop Dunne (6-3/185) KC Ossai, Conroe Oak Ridge (6-0/185) Roddrell Freeman, Mart (6-0/210) Aidan Siano, Prosper (6-0/225) Cooper Sheridan, Grapeland (6-2/185) CORNERBACK Ishmael Ibraheem, Dallas Kimball (6-0/165): Still new to football, cornerback comes naturally to Ibraheem. He is very physical for his size and has nice speed. Latrell McCutchin, Austin LBJ (6-0/165): Also a standout receiver, McCutchin is one of the better pure athletes in the state. Hunter Washington, Katy (6-1/170):Washington was a leader on a very good Katy defense this year and is a bigger corner. Cameron Oliver, Fort Bend Travis (6-1/160): Playing in a tough Class 6A district, Oliver had 7 interceptions as a sophomore this season. Jalen Emery, Houston Lamar (5-10/165): Lamar has become known for producing DBS and Emery is the next in line. Jimmy Wyrick, South Oak Cliff (5-10/155): The son of the former Minnesota standout of the same name, Wyrick is a speedy corner. Deuce Harmon, Denton Guyer (5-10/165) Mark Wilson, Clear Lake (6-0/170) Kevin Young, Cedar Hill (5-9/170) Jaden Fugett, Denton Guyer (6-1/180) Kiyon King, Cedar Park (5-8/150) Kavian Gaither, Waco Connally (5-9/170) Princeton Word, Lancaster (6-1/170) SAFETY JD Coffey, Kennedale (6-0/165): An all-state selection, Coffey already has 12 interceptions in his two seasons on varsity. Brett Lynch, Cedar Hill (5-10/170): Lynch may not be the biggest safety but he absolutely loves to hit. The Cedar Hill staff raves about him. Savonte Sanford-Paige, Harker Heights (6-1/180): Sanford-Paige has the frame to be a big safety prospect but he is surprisingly good in coverage for his size. Jadarius Thursby, Duncanville (6-0/180): Duncanville simply reloads and Thursby is the next in line at the Class 6A powerhouse. Johnny Rider, Haltom (5-9/170): Rider is not the biggest safety, but he makes plays all over the field. He had over 100 tackles as a sophomore and also recorded four interceptions. Lyrik Rawls, Jefferson (6-0/170) Colby Huerter, Katy Tompkins (5-11/180) Cinque Williams, Mansfield Legacy (5-10/170) Dalton Johnson, Katy (5-10/180) Dylan Early, Spring Dekaney (5-11/175) Blake Smith, Pearland Dawson (5-9/170) ATHLETE Shadrach Banks, North Shore (6-0/200): Banks was absolutely dominant as a receiver in the state title game, but some schools also love his potentially at linebacker or safety. KJ Liggins, Coppell (5-11/180): Liggins is a standout at both wide receiver and cornerback and has incredibly high upside at both places. Quaydarius Davis, Dallas Skyline (5-11/186): Already committed to SMU as a receiver, Davis will have all kinds of offers when all is said and done. Though he will likely stay at WR, he can also play defense. Billy Bowman, Denton Ryan (5-9/170):Bowman has a very high upside as a slot WR but he also had 5 interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns, as a sophomore. Clayton Smith, Texas High (6-4/205): The Texarkana product plays both tight end and linebacker and could likely excel at either spot at the next level. BJ Lamb, Grapeland (5-11/165): Hailing from a small school, Lamb is a standout receiver, cornerback and return man. Once coaches make it to Grapeland, he will see offers come his way. Chase Lowery, Plano Prestonwood (5-11/165) CJ Sanders, New Caney (5-10/160) Mikeviun Titus, South Oak Cliff (5-10/170) Vidareous High, Alto (6-0/180) Brandon Epton Jr., Dallas Kimball (6-0/185

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Coming off an official visit this past weekend to Arkansas and one earlier this spring to Texas, Houston Cy Ridge four-star defensive end Vernon Broughton has now scheduled his final three official visits as well. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound defender, who is ranked as the No. 70 prospect in the nation, will use all three visits over the next three weekends. It will be LSU on June 7, Ohio State June 14 and Texas A&M June 21. "I set it up about two weeks ago," he said of his LSU trip this coming weekend. "I've been there before so I probably just want to see how the coaches treat me, see what my family likes about it and then see from there." Broughton says there are a few draws to Baton Rouge. "I've been talking to coach (Dennis) Johnson, the d-line coach. My mom came from there, so you know it's in the blood," he said. "And I like it up there. And the seafood is amazing. You know I like to eat." Ohio State will be a new destination for Broughton. "Ohio State, I've never been up there," he said. "I want to see the coaches, see how the school looks, see how everything's planned out, see where they've got me playing or looking for me to play. Coach Larry (Johnson), he's sent many people to the league and I like that. That's where I'm trying to go in three years, unless I get hurt. I'll stay behind and get my education if not that." Broughton was at A&M for a camp on Wednesday and will be back in a few weeks. "A&M, it's the same thing (as Ohio State)," he said of the draw to Aggieland. "Coach Price, he sends players to the league. He just sent Myles Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick. You can't do better than that." Already 285 pounds, Broughton knows some schools think he should move inside. However, he wants to stay at defensive end. "Coach Price (from A&M) is saying end," Broughton said. "The Razorbacks are saying end. LSU's saying end. I know all schools are going to say that and not all them would put me at end. But all the ones I'm visiting, I would play end." With his officials out of the way soon, a commitment will follow not too long after. "By the end of the summer," Broughton said, succinctly, before adding, "Oh, it's coming. Trust me, it's coming." To a question of if he had an idea in his mind where he would likely end up, Broughton gave an interesting answer. "Yeah, I have an idea, but you know I can't tell you," he said, laughing. "It's going to be crazy when y'all see. Just know that." 5COMMENTSIn the end, he is looking for a few things in particular. "All campuses are nice. It's just where they've got me playing and see how the coaches are going to treat me.
