  4. Perroni Texas A&M hosted close to 100 prospects on Sunday for its second annual Super Bowl party. The Aggies had a ton of talent on campus, including several composite five-stars and even more four-stars. As of Sunday evening, there were two commitments to come at the event. That is the same number that came in a year ago and also like last year, there was definitely some momentum built. NEW COMMITS The first player to the Aggies on Sunday had actually been in town since late Friday night. Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep defensive back Major Burns, who could play either cornerback or safety, made it a weekend in College Station with three other prospects from Baton Rouge. Offered only a couple weeks ago, the 6-foot-1.5, 181-pound speedy defender was blown away by the campus and everything else on Saturday. The Crystal Ball predictions starting rolling in at that time for a reason and he made his commitment a little before 1 p.m. Sunday. That made Burns the first defensive commit in the class. He would not be the only one on that list for long, though. During the first quarter, Cibolo Steele four-star cornerback Jaylon Jones also announced his commitment to A&M. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior was close to making a commitment to the Aggies back during the season and decided to go ahead and do it on Sunday. He spent much of the evening recruiting other players as well. Jones was also high on both Florida and Texas with the Longhorns seemingly holding momentum after a recent Junior Day. However, he says he has shut things down now. NEW OFFERS Though not quite as many offers as expected went out, the staff did give out a few. They seem to be taking a more cautious approach this year and will likely send out more in-state ones during spring ball. The first player to receive his offer was Alvin Shadow Creek safety Xavion Alford. Making his second trip in three weekends, the 6-foot, 174-pound defender added the Aggies to an impressive list of offers that have come in the last month or so. He is high on A&M and it was an offer he wanted, but he plans to wait a little bit before committing anywhere. The next one to be offered was Little Elm cornerback Ryan Watts. A big defender at 6-foot-2, 187 pounds, he did not hold a single offer three weeks ago. Arkansas was the first to give him one and now his total is at 17. With all of the recruiting attention being brand new to him, Watts is not anywhere close to making a commitment anywhere. The final new offer went to a familiar name in A&M Consolidated wide receiver Devin Price, the son of Aggie defensive ends coach Terry Price. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior was really hoping for that offer and says it is the same offer with the same (lack of) restrictions as everyone else. There had been talk of a potential grayshirt or blueshirt if Price was up to it. There are some Crystal Ball predictions for A&M and it would be a bit of a surprise if he did not end up as an Aggie when all is said and done. A FEW PLAYERS MISSING There were a couple of highly-ranked prospects that had said they would be there that didn't make the trip. That group is led by five-star North Shore running back Zachary Evans. Originally scheduled to spent Saturday night in town, he ended up not making it Sunday either. Evans is likely going to be an uphill battle. The other five-star running back that was set to be there was Aledo's Jase McClellan, who has been committed to Oklahoma for some time. His mother had a work emergency so he is working to set up another weekend to visit in the near future. A few other bigger names that did not end up making the trip were Fort Bend Marshall slot Devon Achane, North Shore offensive tackle Damieon George, Memphis (Tenn.) Freedom Prep offensive tackle Chris Morris, Hebron safety Darius Snow and Coppell sophomore athlete KJ Liggins. BIG MOMENTUM Even before Sunday's event began, the Aggies were off to a good start for the weekend. One of the players on the trip with Burns was LSU four-star defensive tackle commit Jaquelin Roy. While he remains committed to the hometown Tigers, A&M made a big impression on him and at least has given him something to seriously think about. The Aggies feel they did as much as possible with him. Fort Bend Austin wide receiver Troy Omeire did not plan to make a commitment this weekend and kept to that. However, after joining several other recruits on campus beginning Saturday, A&M is in good standing with him. He has gone back and forth with the Aggies and Longhorns but A&M has spent the most time at the top of his list and things look good with him. The Aggies are still in good shape with Fort Bend Marshall four-star quarterback Malik Hornsby. It still appears the national top-100 prospect is likely to be A&M's quarterback in the class. Mansfield Timberview cornerback Jalen Kimber went into the weekend saying he was not planning to commit and, like Omeire, kept to that. However, the Aggies are in good shape there as well. It is likely to be an A&M/Texas battle for Bastrop Cedar Creek defensive end Alfred Collins. He was able to spend a lot of one-on-one time with the coaches, which he liked. Collins does not plan to make a decision until his senior season but just continuing to get him back on campus is big. One of the other big in-state defensive ends in the class is Houston Cy Ridge four-star Vernon Broughton. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound defender is high on Alabama, LSU and Texas but A&M at least made up ground on that trio Sunday. He, too, spent quite a bit of time with Fisher. The same is the case with Dallas Carter four-star defensive tackle Branard Wright, who has long been highest on LSU. Garland Lakeview Centennial sophomore running Camar Wheatonhas some serious speed for a big back at 6-foot, 190 pounds. He is a pretty quiet kid but was also very impressed by what he saw in Aggieland. A&M is in good shape early with him. The Aggies also did a very good job with another North Shore prospect, class of 2021 athlete Shadrach Banks. The top-rated sophomore athlete in the country, Banks was originally offered by A&M as linebacker after camp this past summer. However, after a huge season for the Mustangs, it seems it would be tough to play him anywhere but wide receiver. That's where he spent Sunday and there is some talk from a couple different people that he could be the one to break the A&M drought at North Shore, where the last player the Aggies signed was in the class of 2000. Katy Tompkins class of 2021 defensive end Tunmise Adeleye admits he was pretty high on Texas coming in but that the Aggies reminded him of why he has always liked the school, even since A&M was the first to offer. "It reaffirmed everything I originally fell in love with at A&M," he said. POTENTIAL OFFERS Though the three offers went out, a few others could be in line for them at some point in the not-too-distant future as well. Arlington athlete Jahari Rogers is a high school quarterback but could play either cornerback or receiver at the next level. He met with Jimbo Fisher and is supposed to talk to the head coach again tomorrow. The staff wants to figure out where he would best fit. A&M has only offered two total tight ends in the class and none in the state of Texas. Dallas Bishop Dunne's Elijah Yelverton is the highest-ranked one and was in town Sunday. He says that the Aggies are going to evaluate him more in the spring and he understands how selective they are being at the position. Stafford edge rusher Robert Wooten is still a player the Aggies are high on as well. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive end/linebacker is one that could earn an offer soon. A&M has offered a trio of in-state sophomore quarterbacks but another to watch is Jalen Milroe of Katy Tompkins. Fisher went by the school Friday and liked what he saw from the 6-foot-1, 175-pound dual-threat prospect. There was some thought that he could receive an offer Sunday and, while that didn't happen, he is still one to keep an eye on going forward. Dallas Skyline wide receiver Quaydarius Davis is a 2021 prospect that will likely pick up an offer before long. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound sophomore t has seen some big ones come in early and will be a national recruit. A&M is high on him. OUT-OF-STATE VISITORS Despite the event being on a Sunday night, A&M had several prospects from outside the borders of the Lone Star State. In addition to Burns and Roy, the two other Baton Rouge players to make the trip were Madison Prep four-star athlete Joel Williams and Southern Lab sophomore wide receiver Theodore Knox. Knox has yet to be offered but Williams is a big cornerback target for the Aggies. Muscle Shoals, Ala., four-star linebacker Jackson Bratton is committed to the in-state Crimson Tide, but that did not stop him from spending the entire weekend in College Station. Houma (La.) Terrebonne four-star wide receiver Ja'Khi Douglas has some impressive offers, including from much of the SEC. The 5-foot-9, 184-pound junior has not been offered by A&M just yet but made his way to town Sunday. 12COMMENTS Another top Louisiana wide receiver in attendance was sophomore Chris Hilton of Zachary. The 5-foot-11, 166-pound class of 2021 prospect has offers from much of the SEC as well. The final out-of-state visitor was also the highest-ranked one. For the second time, Virginia Beach (Va.) Prince Anne five-star class of 2021 cornerback Tony Grimes spent close to a week in town. In fact, after arriving on Thursday, he is still there and does not plan to leave until Tuesday

  6. My Wednesday night recruiting take Liucci Staff 12:53a, 1/31/19 Pulled these two replies from another thread and wanted to sticky them for those of you weren't looking for them: Poster comment: "Looks more and more like we are going to whiff on our main remaining targets. Are there any other names out there that we haven't heard about? I'm still holding out hope for Russell, but who knows. Sounds like Shep is a sip. Lee is going to LSU. We struck out with Ward and Williams at CB. Hoping we have some other options. If not, it sounds like Smith will get a spot. Will we go ahead and sign Mowry and Ellison and hope they qualify." My Reply: A lot wrong with this one. First, they're very unlikely to sign two guys (if) they think they won't qualify. Second, Shepherd is far from a lock to Texas, even if Brauny is starting to feel like it seems like he'll likely fall that way. Far from a lock and there are those close to his recruitment who still believe he'll be an Aggie. Just really tough to tell at this point. I think everyone is getting caught up in the 'last visit' thing but I don't think it's wise to try and figure out where Shepherd's head is at in all of this. Most felt for a while that he was going to flip very late from the Horns to the Aggies and that could still be the case. We really won't know probably until Tuesday at the earliest (either way). I feel pretty confident on Chris Russell at this point in time. To say "we struck out" with Ward and Williams isn't true either. The Ags really backed away from Ward following his visit, to the point that I'm not sure he'd even have an LOI in front of him next week. Williams definitely feels like he'll end up in Baton Rouge with the last visit and it being so much closer to home but if last year and this cycle has taught you anything, it would probably be to not count Jimbo, Dameyune Craig and the Ags out of a late recruitment...especially in Alabama. How quickly we're all forgetting how Fisher and the Aggies closed last February and how many guys signed with A&M in December who were penciled in as 'locks' or 'heavy leans' elsewhere earlier in the process. Names like Leal, Wright, Richardson and Green come immediately to mind. There was also that time the Ags lost Calzada to Georgia and the whole "A&M has zero chance with Elijah Blades" thing. Let's see how this plays out, as I think the Russell, Shepherd and Williams aren't close to being set in stone." Poster comment: "Good stuff Looch. Odds are we get one of our targets to go along with Mowry and I suppose Smith. It could happen but it's hard for me to picture that based on Jimbo's track record that we whiff on everyone we've had in. If it happens is it possible we just sign 25 and don't fill the last ship? My reply: "Right now, I'd say my confidence meter is highest with Russell, followed by Shepherd and then Williams. I'd say I'm at around 60% with Russell, 45/55 with Javonne (and there's part of me that still thinks he's had a very specific plan that he's stuck with over the past two months or so) and maybe 40/60 with Christian. Here's the thing to remember: Last year heading down the stretch (the final week or so), the guys up in the air that few thought were leaning A&M's way included a wavering Leon O'Neal, Bobby Brown, Jashaun Corbin, James Foster, Vernon Jackson (I could honestly see Shepherd's decision literally changing several times on NSD much like Jackson's did ), Glenn Beal, Jeremiah Martin, Tank Jenkins and Charles Strong. Heck, even in December of this year, the drama that went the Ags' way when most on the boards thought it wouldn't happen included the Calzada-Georgia stuff, Elijah Blades and Derick Hunter

  12. Texas A&M Super Bowl event to have a loaded visitor list VIP ByBRIAN PERRONI 120 minutes ago Share 15 Comments WR Troy Omeire (Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports) Just like a year ago, Texas A&M will host a number of its top underclassman targets for a Super Bowl party next weekend. Last season saw the Aggies pick up two commitments at the event but also gain momentum with quite a few others in the class as many committed not long after. This year’s event will again be star-studded and the visitor list will have more names added to it throughout the week. Players like the North Shore trio listed in the ‘maybe’ column still need to figure out their plans for next weekend and likely won’t know for a little while. Again, this list will see additions as we confirm more players, but these are ones that we have confirmed so far. The current class of 2020 commitments are all expected in town as well. -2020 Fort Bend Marshall QB Malik Hornsby: Once very close to being an A&M commitment, the national top-100 dual-threat prospect is still very high on the Aggies. He still says he wants to take visits this spring though. He says it is relatively sure he will be in town. -2020 Fort Bend Marshall RB/WRDevon Achane: You won’t find many more electrifying players in the open field in the class than Achane. A high school running back, he will be a slot receiver at the next level and is very high on A&M. -2020 Cedar Hill Trinity Christian CBDwight McGlothern: The five-star prospect has seemingly spent more time in College Station than he has in his hometown. He will be making his second trip in three weekend. However, the Aggies have some competition for him with Alabama being a notable one. -2020 Aledo RB Jase McClellan(Oklahoma commit): The five-star junior made a very early commitment to Oklahoma as a sophomore but has still remained in contact with the Aggies since. He has been to College Station a couple times and will be there again next weekend. -2020 Muscle Shoals (Ala.) LB Jackson Bratton (Alabama commit): An early Alabama pledge, it will be hard to switch the four-star linebacker from his in-state pledge. However, he made plans to be in Aggieland shortly after being offered a few weeks back. -2020 Houston C.E. King S Bryson Washington: The four-star safety was not able to make it with his Fast7v7 teammates last weekend, so he will make the trip for the Super Bowl party instead. -2020 Bastrop Cedar Creek DE Alfred Collins: Perhaps the state’s best defensive lineman, A&M was the first to offer Collins. However, he is a Longhorn legacy. The Aggies need to continue to get him to campus. -2020 Newton DE James Sylvester:Though he has offers from all over the country, Sylvester looks like he will be an A&M-TCU battle. He is very high on the Aggies but has three class of 2019 teammates headed to play for the Horned Frogs. -2020 Fort Bend Austin WR Troy Omeire: A big and fast wide receiver, the national top-100 prospect will be an A&M-Texas battle. It is big that the Aggies are getting him on campus again. -2020 Cibolo Steele CB Jaylon Jones:Once very close to committing to the Aggies, the four-star cornerback now has Texas up there as well. Like many of the other in-state battles, it is big to get him on campus again. -2020 Lancaster CB Lorando Johnson:The four-star cornerback recently named A&M in his top three, along with Arkansas and LSU. The Crystal Ball is in favor of LSU but the Aggies are still most definitely in it. -2020 Lancaster RB/ATH Kevontre Bradford: The 5-foot-11, 185-pound high school running back does not have an offer from A&M at the moment, but he is one to watch. He has added several big offers recently, including one from USC on Saturday. -2020 Mansfield Timberview CB Jalen Kimber: The Aggies are very high on Kimber and vice versa. He has seen his offer list increase quite a bit but is considered an A&M lean. -2020 Stafford DE/LB Robert Wooten:A high school defensive end at a somewhat smaller school, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Wooten is being looked at as a linebacker by the Aggies but is also being evaluated as a pass-rushing end as well. A&M has only offered one in-state linebacker in the class so far, but Wooten is one to watch to possibly receive one. Jimbo Fisher went by his school on Friday. -2020 Cy Creek LB Josh White(Oklahoma State commit): Like Wooten, White is another linebacker prospect that does not have an A&M offer at this point but could be very close to one. Though he is committed to Oklahoma State, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound defender was at LSU this past weekend and is still open to others. He was his district’s Defensive MVP as a junior. -2021 Virginia Beach (Va.) Princess Anne CB Tony Grimes: The five-star prospect from Virginia will actually arrive in town on Monday and spend the whole week in College Station. He did the same thing for a week during the summer as well. -2021 Fort Bend Willowridge WR Latrell Neville: Like with Washington, Neville was unable to make the trip with the Fast team last weekend. The big sophomore wideout once had A&M as the leader, so the Aggies can do their best to get back in that position again. -2021 Mesquite Horn LB Kendrick Blackshire: Linebackers, especially inside ones, are at a huge premium. Blackshire is currently ranked as the country’s top inside linebacker for the 2021 class and will be in College Station for the event. -2021 Denton Ryan DE Ja'tavion Sanders: The two-way standout was just offered by the Aggies last week and will be making his way to College Station on Sunday. Sanders has been as hot as any prospect in the country in picking up offers the past two weeks. -2021 Katy Tompkins DE Tunmise Adeleye: The 6-foot-3, 260-pound sophomore could be in the discussion as the state’s top prospect in the class when all is said and done. A&M was his first offer. Adeleye will be in town no matter and could be riding with a pair of Aggie commits in Smart Chibuzo and Akinola Ogunbiyi. MAYBES -2020 North Shore RB Zachary Evans -2020 North Shore OT Damieon George -2020 Port Neches-Groves OT Jaylen Garth -2020 Cy Ridge DE Vernon Broughton -2020 Fort Bend Marshall CB Avery Helm -2020 Denton Ryan LB/ATH Drew Sanders (Oklahoma commit) -2021 Garland Lakeview Centennial RB Camar Wheaton -2021 North Shore WR/ATH Shadrach Banks 15COMMENTS -2021 North Shore QB Dematrius Davis -2021 Richmond Foster OT Reuben Fatheree
  13. Ryan BrauningerStaff 3:06p North Forest OL Javonne Shepherd has already started his long weekend at Bama and Georgia according to a source near the recruitment. Alabama CB commit Christian Williams still has plans to be in College Station tomorrow for an official visit. Sounds like the ship is quickly sailing with Amite (LA) ATH Devonta Lee. At this point, I do not expect a visit to A&M based on what I was told this afternoon. Bradley Dale Peveto is back in Tennessee to visit with Chris Russell and those around him today
