  1. What happens if the annuity business ever goes to shit again?
  2. Great, but if the goal is to win a title and the team isn't quite ready why give up draft capital and young players for a guy who has a short career horizon.
  3. Was expecting the Espada special of sitting Cam after 4 hits last night.
  4. So is mlb.com experts insert anyone who claims to be a sports expert on the internet) the sports equivalent of apple store genius? All the Astros creative brain power is too busy coming up with creative ways to describe injuries and times on the DL.
  5. I agree Smith is not where a player like Acuna was at this age and I don't think he has the same tools. My point was and is that based upon this roster and who the Astros can legitimately can put in the outfield on a nightly basis I don't see how they really have any other choice and the idea they should have kept him in the minors simply for another season of control is off base. I am not sure I am ready for Brown to mirror the Red Sox and sign Smith now to a longer deal, heck, we haven't even see how he reacts and adjusts one teams start coming up with a plan to attack his swing and approach at the plate.
  6. There are some in the Houston media who tried to make the argument the Astros screwed up by not leaving Smith in the minors because he is going to be great and playing him this year will cost them a year of team control. With this roster and the other outfield options, fuck that idea.
  7. A legit question to me is why hasn't there been an increase in the overall skill level and athleticism among the bigs in women's basketball? Not trying to be funny, not trying to troll anyone, serious question. Clark's skills are not unique to the game of basketball so why don't we see higher developed skills coming out of college? There has been a ton of money poured into women's collegiate sports, the WNBA is almost 30 years old so this isn't new or just catching on. As far as big, I watched parts of two TCU games last year, one versus ND and the other South Carolina and I couldn't believe how unathletic the bigs seemed on the floor. Prince played flat footed, heck the other bigs the same. It was as if I was watching female clones of Bill Robizine and yet if I watch women's volleyball in college I see multiple players over 6' who can get up off the floor and play above the eight foot net. I am not expecting a 6'3-4" post to drop step and dunk like I see in can commonly see in a guys' high school game, but in those two games the bigs are playing below the net.
  8. Very good point, unless you go out of your way to attract attention, most athletes in Olympic sports fly under the radar for three years, even if they are dominating their sports and winning world titles. The perfect example is Sydney McLaughlin - Levrone. Hands done the most dominant US women's athlete going and she is an afterthought if you asked most of America to name the top female athlete. Consider she is the FIRST ATHLETE (male or female) to set 4 world records in the same event (did it over 13 months) and wins by some insane margins. She is the most dominant US hurdler since Edwin Moses and if she wins a third gold medal in LA she will join a group that includes the likes of Faith Kipyegon (1500M), some guy named Ryan Crouser, another guy named Carl Lewis (long jump, and Usain Bolt (100m and 200m). To have the opportunity to join that company is so rare and yet does ESPN ever mention what she has done in the new track league? Nope, but then again I don't recall Crouser being mentioned and I would highly suspect he won't be nominated for an ESPY (bullshit award I know) despite dealing with the blood clot issue to beat the second best shot putter of all time for a third straight time in the Olympics.
  9. Asking out of curiosity, is 572+ innings pitched in the minors a larger than normal amount?
  10. Anyone surprised Yuki didn't turn into Pitt and then keep driving as if he simply ran over a ground hog?
  11. Does anyone really believe Durant is that single missing piece for the Rockets and with him they are playing in the Finals? If so, make the move, but I just see a team that needs a bit more and most likely still 2-3 years away based upon where some of their supposedly key players are at this time. Thing is, same with the Spurs so why make the trade if you are either of them?
  12. People put WAY too much value into the PFF grades and the use a great deal of conjecture when determining those grades.
  13. Define "winning big". Gary's first year as HC at TCU was in 2001, his 2002 team won 10 games, a conference title, and finished in the top 25 for the first time in roughly two decades. 2005 they won 11 games, beat #5 OU in Norman, and finished in the top 10. 2008-10 they won 10 or more each year, won the conference three years in a row, won the Rose Bowl, and finished in the top 10 all three years with a high of #4 in 2010. Somewhere between 2001 and 2010 there was an extension as Gary was considering other jobs, but again what do you consider winning big. One other point that I think gets lost with Gary and why he stayed a TCU so long is that he coached at TCU through 4 conferences (3 as a head coach) so while he was at the same school the challenges to his program did change as the the competition increased with each new conference. I think that is important because coaches don't simply jump for money, it helps, especially if they throw stupid money at you like ATM and Jimbo, but I do think some of these guys in the words of Reese Bobby, start to get a bit itchy when things are just a bit too perfect.
  14. Actually, he could have driven like a person with a fucking clue and not tried to pass on the grass, but understand your point.
  15. Really not a rare skill on this squad.
  16. Hell no, I hear tooooo many TCU grey hairs longing for the good ole' days of the SWC and unless we are going all the way back to Dutch and 50's fuck no. As far as the group above, Texas has already been there and left it so why go back?
  17. Boise sucks. Been there, won there, no need to go back to that shit hole.
  18. THat is obviously the abridged version.
  19. So did John McLain, but that raspy voice still pops up on the Houston airways from time to time.
  20. Fall camps will be here soon enough. I really do think with the increased usage of the transfer portal and the level of work they do with the incoming players over the summer you really don't get a truly clear picture until you are a couple weeks out from the season. Granted, there are a ton of magazines, websites, people on social media churning out content about their projections for the season based upon their own "unique analysis or algorithm" will scratch the itch for some, but even the most insider reports on how those freshmen receivers are looking in 7 on 7 and work outs really won't mean much until they put on pads and start show they can handle the physicality of the db's, read coverages, etc...
  21. I thought this has started out to be a solid season, first three were very good, but more Jerry has never been a good thing to me and this episode fell flat. Really wasn't sure what they were going for at the end when they wrapped up all the holidays and why include Summer at all in the episode. Hopefully, they get back on track next week.
  22. https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/c3v5v7vn0qpo Norris said: "Our rule number one is to not make contact with your team-mate and it's what I did. McLaren is my family. I race for them, you know, every single weekend. I try and do well for them, more than I often try and do well for myself.
  23. https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/cp3q3g1wd19o But the seven-time world champion, a vegan and well-known animal lover, was more concerned with the "horrible" death of the groundhog. "It was feeling pretty decent up until then. And then, I didn't see it happen, but obviously I heard I hit a groundhog," said Hamilton. "So that's devastating. I love animals, and I'm so sad about it. That's horrible. That's never happened to me here before. "It's never nice to see that - I just hope it didn't suffer."
  24. I think I read that is around $200M this year. Curious what it costs to run a mlb outside of player salaries.
