  1. I agree with much of what you are saying, but I don't think in the end the driver of all these decisions will be the conferences. If you are the networks, why pay for schools that don't bring market shares when you know that the big schools have already shown a willingness to jump for the money. I understand that the SEC and Big 10 will say they are subject to the same rules and temptations as what caused other schools to jump, but my response is simply not yet. Said it before on this board, but I don't see the networks willing to pay for 60 schools for example when they can get consolidate down and in the end they are the ones who are going to drive these changes yet again and not the schools.
  2. Looking at that, is that a better basketball conference than the current conference for Gonzaga? They have lost ground to St. Mary's and a few of the other schools don't have football programs which means in theory they can throw assets at basketball and other sports. The other big issue on Gonzaga is the sustainability of Gonzaga as a national brand. Few is 63, their international and US recruiting has fallen off since Lloyd left for Az, and they have been hit and miss in the transfer market. They are getting very close to being a basketball version of Boise and not a west coast version of Villanova.
  3. I don't understand how "restocking" the PAC does anything in regards to stabilizing the conference going forward and I don't see how the Big XII or the ACC adding new teams does anything for either conference. The argument that adding teams is adding markets really doesn't mean much when you already have a clusterfuck situation with your schedule and the networks don't want to pay you as much as the Big 10 and the SEC. Seriously, if the Big XII adds Memphis will that suddenly make them appealing enough to ESPN and/or Fox that the networks want to pay them the same? Will all of a sudden the Big XII be viewed on the same competitive level as the Big 10 and the SEC and the discussion now be how the Big XII deserves as many guaranteed slots as the SEC and the Big 10? Of course not and there is no reason to add any more teams. What needs to happen is fix the damn scheduling mess inside conference play that came from all the uncontrolled and impulsive growth and the schools in the conference needs to step the fuck up and raise their level of play. I truly believe that ultimately we will see consolidation and culling of teams instead of adding more and more teams. The networks have already shown their down have the appetite for more and more teams, ESPN has shown they would rather broadcast axe throwing, dodge ball, and kick ball on their "free network" and broadcast more and more college sports via they pay app. The only real questions to me are what form does the new group take, who ultimately acts as the head of this new group, and who gets culled out in the process.
  4. If the A's don't break ground on the new stadium in Las Vegas until the end of the month what are the chances they are in the new stadium by the end of the 2028 season? Their home attendance so far this year is less than 10K a game (down from over 11K last year) and I can't imagine their regional tv viewership has surged with the announcement they will eventually leave the area. How in the world are they even affording to operate? As a young kid growing up outside of Dallas I remember going to games with our Dad and watching the Rangers get pummeled by those great A's teams of the early 70's. Damn they had some talent on those teams.
  5. I look at this picture and it so perfectly sums up that Lando is not only unaware of his physical situation on a track, but he was completely unaware of the situation involving the standings in the driver's race other than he is behind Oscar. As goofyboy pointed out, Oscar has shown so much more patience than Lando on the track and in race situations as they impact the standings. If Lando doesn't try to make the above pass he most likely finishes 4th which is 10 points for him. If Lando does make the pass that nets he 2 extra points with a chance he does catch Kimi. At the most the move nets him 5 points if he does execute two clean passes. I know the argument about how important 1 point can be in the driver's race, but there is no math that works out where the risk of that outside pass where half your car is on the grass is acceptable when you consider what is to be gained for you and your team and the potential that McLaren could have lost both drivers because of an incredibly stupid and immature decision.
  6. With an impressive 2 of 9 from the field. How the hell does a team's starters shoot 13 of 38 from the field and win by 12?
  7. So, so badly want this movie to happen. Now that Tom is done stunts that can only be filmed in about 4 places in the world we need this movie.
  8. Eating brunch in a restaurant watching the race and the looks of all the Ferrari supporters whenever we would get yet another episode of F1's version of "Charles in Charge" was priceless. Love the unintentional comedy between Charles and his engineer. Lando is a fucking moron and doesn't not have the temperament to win a title. He has talent, he wants to be good, and then he gets nervous and shits himself again and again and again. Finally, where can I can get a t-shirt that reads" We aren't testing, we are racing." That is a mantra to live by from Fernando.
  9. Redundant and just be glad it isn't Ben and Karl Ravech or you would have to come up with identifiers for fucking idiot.
  10. At the rate Yordan's bones are mending the best move might be to let Altuve DH the rest of the year, Whitcomb take over 2nd, and find an outfielder who can provide more punch than Melton now that Dezenzo and Chaz are gone for the year as they have fallen into the MLB's version of the Bermuda Triangle, the Astros' DL.
  11. What I want is the sledge hammer Herman "used" . Not sure any one moment has encapsulated a coach's tenure better than this one.
  12. One small change and that is 2 of their best bats from last season. Not ready to say the production has been completely replaced, but Paredes with no real protection behind him in the line up has been very solid, defense has been goods, and his numbers for a full season project to match what Bregman has given them offensively the last three seasons. Now that I have committed the sin of actually looking ahead the baseball gods will punish Isaac for my transgression by having him sleep on the wrong type of pillow and being out a month.
  13. Astros will be a regular rolling ball of butcher knives when they get everyone back healthy and in the lineup, hopefully this year, but until then keep finding ways to win.
  14. Simply returned to his roots, AC Davis Pirate from Yakima, Washington.
  15. Where can I get that t-shirt?
  16. Not sure the ACC would be excited about schools whose student bodies can be frequently found on a number of amateur porn sites.....or so it is reported on the internet.
  17. Except for the two Cali schools, ASU, and Colorado.
  18. Very true and there are some nice areas in Meyerland/ Rice Village, not sure if he wants to live in the city. Granted, that area isn't the same as living in a true downtown area, but it can be as congested as any area in Houston.
  19. Suspect this is from the back of The Woodlands. Would much rather live there than Sugarland or Pearland area.
  20. Feel confident in the outcome as long as he faces the ChiSox.
  21. No HR? Sounds like a godsend in some aspects.
  22. I will volunteer to talk unmerciless shit about Gusto between starts if it will result in performances such as last night. Feel confident in the outcome as long as he faces the ChiSox.
  23. The one aspect of these Mt. Rushmore conversations that often times get lost is not just the physical greatness of the player, but the leadership of that player as well as part they played in carrying whatever team to greatness. Example, no one questions the physical tools that Vince was blessed with and the manner that he often times completely outclassed the competition, even the very best of college football at that time. There has to be a multiplier to his greatness factor when we remember he did this in a Greg Davis offense and had to overcome Mack's neurosis as he changed a program from one that had truly shit on its shelf in some big moments under Mack (specifically playing OU ) into a program that continually faced any challenge and made the plays needed to pull out games that before would have been losses such as Kansas or Oklahoma State, beat THE Ohio State at Columbus, Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and finally USC for the national title. That is one reason why I mentioned Nobis. The old timers I know who saw him played talked more about Tommy's leadership and toughness than his physical ability which was pretty name impressive when you consider he was a 3x all conference player in an era where freshmen didn't play varsity ball, a 2x AA, and he started both ways for three seasons. He was a key piece to the Horns winning the National Title in 1963, beating Navy and Staubach in the Cotton Bowl that year, as well as beating top ranked Bama and Namath in 1965. The guy averaged 20 tackles a game at linebacker while playing guard. Fuck, load management or monitoring work rate.
  24. Finish? It was hard to start after watching the first 10 minutes and thinking it was Wilson redoing his character from You, Me and DuPree yet again. He has done a ton of work since Midnight in Paris and much just isn't good or different from the other bad roles.
  25. Not only did the Tom Hank's classic "Bachelor Party" gives us NIck, but who could forget Milt and the first time we meet him.
