Lmfao they're deploying DPS and declaring THIS a riot

How tf is that obstructing a passageway, and how is that not a public discourse space on a public university campus? Read the law, it's only 7 fuckin pages long.

    https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/86R/billtext/pdf/SB00018F.pdf#navpanes=0

This is absolutely fucking absurd. The state is out of control.

Seems that if these folks had planned ahead, they'd have an application for TRO ready to file down at the courthouse restraining UTPD and the DPS (and anyone else necessary) from depriving them of their right to speech in violation of that statute.

Note: IIRC, UT does have some sort of "curfew" on such activities (meaning no overnight "camping") which would probably pass muster as a reasonable time place and manner restriction under the statute.  But that's only effective after something like 10:00 pm.  Right now?  I don't see how any reasonable time, place, or manner restriction is being violated.  It's a bunch of maybe 50 students, on the grass, chanting slogans and shit.  They could be there chanting "free Palestine," "OU Sucks," or "bring back G&M Steakhouse [I'd be there with 'em]," it don't make a shit.

Plus, it gives cover fire for the "conservatives" who totally disagree w/ the GQP, J6, think Trump's rhetoric is too inflammatory, etc., to say "see, he's going to have a level-headed #2 in his administration which proves he's learning to become more presidential. He certainly won't repeat all of the mistakes he made last time."

    These.

    That is not true

    Jefferson-Adams 1796 and 1800 (Adams wins round 1, Jefferson wins round 2)
Quincy Adams-Jackson 1824 and 1828 (with some others) (JAQ wins round 1, Jackson wins round 2)
Van Buren-Harrison 1836 and 1840 (Van Buren wins round 1, Harrison wins round 2)
    Cleveland-Harrison 1888 and 1892 (Harrison wins round 1, Cleveland wins round 2)
    McKinley-Bryan 1896 and 1900 (McKinley won both)
    Eisenhower-Stevenson 1952 and 1956 (Ike won both)

Good catch. I was thinking with the "in modern times" modifier, but I still didn't recall Ike and Stevenson.

i've seen one thing: we've never had the same map twice in a row.

We've also never had a back-to-back rematch before.  Unprecedented shit fo sho.

  5. We got what had to be around 3+ inches at our house (rain gauge broke the other day, so that's an estimate).  Was steady and we got some good standing water and runoff - the kind of stuff that would have been great for the lakes.  Seriously, we're missing the target by just 40-50 miles, every damned time.  LT went up only 500 a.f. yesterday.  That's nothing.  Every drunk pissing off their boat over the weekend would make it go up that much.  It's frustrating as hell to watch.

  6. My theory is because we’re in this weird transition period in which most new cars have auto headlight functions, but most old cars don’t. So people sometimes drive a car that has the function, and sometimes drive a car that doesn’t. They get used to the function in their new car and forget to turn them on in the old.

The problem is compounded because many newer cars also have daytime running lights, which means that the parking lights are always on, and sometimes means the headlights are on, but not the tail lights.  When it gets dark, people see the light in front of them because of the running lights function, and never turn on the full headlights.

    I get that.
What I don’t get is that there is zero awareness of someone behind them flashing their lights and even honking at them.

Just cracked open a fresh bag, had a small bowl plain, no salsa even, for a little salty snack. Don’t know how they make them so different, but they’re perfect.

  8. And y'all wanted to fire Jorsh.

Last night was the first game where AFC played like the better team pretty much the whole match. No big groaner mistakes or stupid lapses, just pretty sound football. That was the turn I’ve been looking for. Wins are great, but the last few have been because they were lucky. This one was because they were good.
  9. Take the amount of coke Ellis had in his beard/nostrils in "Die Hard" and add another gram-and-a-half and that's about how much I saw in Don, Jr.'s beard the time i met him in Austin.
What were we talking about?  Oh yeah..........."As a student of the Constitution", let me learn you something.  The next MAGA worshipper that can tell me why Article I & II are about what they're about and why they're numbered that way, will be the first.  It's all there, the lead branch of Government in a Democracy is the duly-elected Legislature.  Not a Dictator, not even a President.  But then, that would presume these  people can even count to 2.  And that's not a given these days.

Just remember that the more stridently someone says they’re a “CONSTITUTIONALIST _______,” the more they actually oppose the core requirements and terms of the actual Constitution. It’s fucking comical, and like clockwork.

  10. I had a Jewish girlfriend. Seems like the adjective is fine here.

You had a Jew girlfriend?  It’s using “Jew” as an adjective (instead of “Jewish”) that is the issue.

    Raising a question…
Does this mean I can't saw "jewbies" anymore? Should I say "breasts of Jewish heritage"?

    Glad someone asked.

  11. This. I think many wrongly assume that fascists are all goose-stepping, cos playing foot soldiers obsessed with genocide. The real engines of fascism are run-of-the-mill assholes. The substantial portion of the population who believe they are entitled to special status and who enjoy feeling superior to others. They may be otherwise intelligent or pleasant. But they are all too willing to overestimate their own accomplishments and wrongly attribute the rewards of good luck and a stacked deck to Hard Work or Ingenuity or some other mark of personal superiority over the unwashed masses.
Those are the dicks who truly drive fascism. The casual racists who go about their business every day in the private sector, along the way supporting any con artist who confirms their delusions of grandeur and protects the fantasy by oppressing the less fortunate. They talk politics on the golf course or around the water cooler, convincing each other that they are special, that they earned their presumed elevated status, and that they are the rightful masters of the universe.
We all know these types. Sounds like Beantown has the ill fortune of working for some of them.

This. It’s all this. It’s how the fascists have taken power, every time - thanks to people like this. They don’t necessarily WANT their enemies tortured and disappeared, but ultimately…they’re ok with it.
  12. We had to have a sit down with the MIL the other day about how she has to stop answering calls from numbers she doesn’t know after she fell for a scam from someone claiming to be from the sheriffs dept and she had to pay money or she would be arrested. She got all the way to the bank before it dawned on her (or my FIL) to actually call the sheriffs dept.

At least once a year, I get a call from a client contact or a client’s family member in a panic, and calling the lawyer they know, because they got a similar call. Sometimes, they have the caller still on the line. Last time that happened, I had them patch me in. At which time I let the caller give his pitch. When he was done, it told him that if he called the lady again, I’d take the time to find where he actually lives, beat him senseless the next time he walked out to his car in the morning, rip out his eyes, skull fuck him, and then burn his car. He sputtered, my client was appalled, and I told him that now is the part where he hangs up and never calls her again. He did. I told her not to worry and have a nice weekend.
There was a nice bottle of bourbon on my desk as a thank you on Monday morning.
I hate those fucking predators. I hate them so much.

  13. Something weird and fucky today. Did a 11pm run to airport. I saw no less than 20 cars without their headlights on, or at most only their parking lights on. I flashed a few of the ones ahead of me (same direction) to no avail. Also saw a bunch of cars with only 1 functioning head or tail light.
Never seen that much on a single drive.

This is a thing now. I flash my lights at them, over and over…nada.
  14. That's insane.  The usual Karen at least requires some sort of unpleasant or high-tension episode to "speak to the manager."  This bitch just walks up on people and starts making shit up.

She should be charged with making a false report.
And as she accused the people around her of criminal conduct, they could also support a defamation claim.
  15. Multiple explosions. Did Pancho's finally kill Brisket, his toilet, and his house?

AUSTIN, Texas — Fire crews and medics are on the scene of an incident involving "multiple explosions" at a home in southeast Austin.
The Austin Fire Department (AFD) said just after 10 a.m. Friday that crews were responding to a structure fire in the 4600 block of Imperial Drive. AFD said it had received reports of a disturbance inside a home associated with "multiple explosions, fire, and smoke" inside the residence.

    edit: Meth lab?

Good sir, I haven’t eaten at Pancho’s in…several weeks, I’m sure of it.
  16. I did have to do some training. I’m working, I bill by the hour, every minute you spend talking to me is another minute I have to stay later working.  First wife was dialed in on it, second one 7 years into is now fully trained.

Of course….the NEXT phase of that is that your wife never calls you….except when something really bad has happened.
Now, when the phone rings during the day and I see it’s her, my instant thought is “oh shit…what’s broken/caught on fire/who died?”
