Stop asking any question that amounts to "so what if the American people DON'T get totally assfucked?" That's a hypothetical that will never happen. "We get assfucked" is the always and only answer.

And I just got the name of a 20-inch metal-spiked dildo the circumference of a coke can changed from "The Rectum Wrecker" to "Little Love Lance." I'm sure that will make it feel better when the GQP rams it up our collective ass repeatedly.
Jesus fucking Christ, the Monster Raving Looney Party in the UK is more worthwhile than the utterly worthless pile of medium-wet shit that is the Democratic party in the US.

Don't overlook this. It's not ICE (and it's not just ICE, it's "Homeland Security" as a whole. It's a separate military force, controlled entirely by the POTUS, to be used exclusively INSIDE our borders, against people here in the US. And the size of that budget...is $175 billion. Where does that put it on the GLOBAL scale?
It's the third largest military budget in the world, behind only the US defense budget and China's defense budget. It is well over Russia's budget.
The GQP just funded/created the third largest military force in the entire world, and is turning them loose against.....us.
I remember back when "libertarians," and "no government interference/no big government" types would have freaked out at the creation and funding of the third largest military in the entire fucking world, to be deployed entirely inside our borders....but today, crickets. Huh. Guess they didn't give a fuck about a single thing they claimed to care about all that time.

it’s not like the DA has an unlimited amount of money to spend. They have a budget, and spending it all on one case can wind up negatively affecting a larger number of cases that require expensive experts and testing.
This is a very, very good and important point.
Gov't funded entities have limited resources (which are declining by the day -- DOGE, EVERYWHERE!). Everyone wants the thing/project that touches on them done perfectly. The street in front of MY house should be perfectly smooth! Cool, the city has 1200 miles of streets to repair and maintain, and a budget to maintain.....50 linear miles a year. So, each 50 miles can get touched - on average - once every 24 years. Sure, some higher-traffic stretches will get more frequent work....meaning that lower traffic streets like residential streets get stretched out to a 30 year schedule.
DA's budgets are similar. We want them to take care of ALL cases, and get those thugs off our streets. But then we demand that they blow 70% of their budget on two "high profile" cases, leaving few resources to deal with the other 5,000 cases on the docket.
Decisions have to be made, resource allocation has to be considered. Every public official I've ever talked to has said some version of "if you give me the money/budget, I will do exactly what you want - nothing would make me happier than repaving every street in town" (or words to that effect).

Well, yeah....human decency and good public policy are political poison in this state.

Again...if you submitted a script/book idea with an exact, unembellished description of this timeline 20 years ago, you would have been ushered out of every possible room as being clearly insane and quite likely a danger to yourself or others.

In the long run, it’s also a ton cheaper to incarcerate someone for life than it is to go through the process to execute someone.
Yep. It's a very good deal for the state to make. The only thing it misses out on is vengeance for the family (which 1) I understand COMPLETELY their desire for vengeance, but 2) that's really not a business the state should be in).

Was a bill really required to allow Texans to spend gold and silver? I'm assuming this doesn't require companies, stores, vendors, whatever accept gold. Hell, some places don't even accept cash these days.
Greg Abbott has morphed from entertaining the ideas of the fringes to mainly focusing on the fringes. Crazy how he's surpassed Rick Perry.
Was just having that conversation with someone who was much closer to Republican inside circles than I ever was. Conversation ended with "When Abbott took over for Perry, did you ever imagine how badly you'd be longing for the return to the relatively decent and benign reign of Perry?"
I'd kneecap any 10 Surly posters if it would get Rick Perry back in the governor's mansion.
I mean, I'd also probably kneecap any 10 Surly posters just because we've all got it coming, but still....

Elon acting like MAGA actually cares about principles and policies and isn't just gobbling up whatever Trump tells to think is super adorable.
Elon thinking that anyone believes that HE cares about principles and policies is rich. He cares only about things that will personally enrich or glorify him (feeding his ego, and trying to fill that enormous void of needing validation and love...that will never, ever be filled by ANYTHING external). He has no empathy or concern for any human being other than himself. View everything he says through that accurate lens, and you'll understand all you need to understand about him.
Fuck him. I hope that he realizes, with increasing despair and desperation, that nothing he does - no amount of money, no amount of power - will ever fill the void he carries around. He will die empty, alone, and desperate for the love and validation he could never obtain, because he doesn't have the first clue where genuine love and peace come from.

I think they are exactly the type of people who will turn in GOLL once Trump’s SS wants to know who’s loyal.
They have no problems with pain happening to the others. But once the others are gone, GOLL may become a target as ‘other-lite’. Not brown-ish, but still an enemy of the people.
Turning in friends and relatives might be the line in the sand for some folks, but with MAGA, banking on that would be a fool’s bet.
This. It’s literally the way it ALWAYS goes with authoritarian regimes, which are almost always built on unifying and consolidating power on a foundation of demonizing the “other.”
They purge the initial “other.” But they still need an enemy. So they expand the definition of “other.” Again, and again. Eventually including people in former in-groups, even former regime insiders.
Idiots think the regime will never come for them. And time after time, they are wrong.-

I hate war crimes and really want them to stop. There’s a really easy way to make sure they stop happening. It’s not overly complicated.
So, let me read that the way that a war crimes tribunal should read it:
"So, your defense against the charge that you committed war crimes against civilian residents of Belligerent X is 'well, I wouldn't have war crimed all of those civilians if Belligerent X woulda just surrendered.'"
Yeah, not only is that not a defense, it is actually an admission that you are 1) using war crimes and the threat of continuing to commit war crimes to 2) coerce Belligerent X into acceding to your demands.
This is impressive. You've actually managed to make yourself out to be MORE of a piece of shit scumbag who supports war crimes. You are as awful a human being as can be imagined. Hell is too good for people like you.

straw man, moving the goalposts, tu quoque etc. You are a fucking liar, and you deal only in logical fallacies. The EXACT conversation is about the IDF targeting civilians at food distribution centers. Not one fucking word about "weapon stockpiles" or any of that bullshit.
You tirelessly look for justification for war crimes, when a human being of ANY moral character sees and condemns the war crime.
And no, I'd say the group that hates Palestinians the most is the group that has openly stated that they intend to purge all of Gaza of them, completely and totally (the openly stated goal of the Israeli regime and its internal partners). It's a stiff competition, as the gulf states and Palestinian leadership aren't helpful and are actually harmful, but that has nothing to do with the fact that the IDF is purposefully murdering civilians at food distribution points.
THOSE civilian deaths aren't a "masturbatory release" -- they are instead the result of deliberate policy of extermination and ethnic cleansing. That - as we decided in the wake of such actions with respect to jews 80+ years ago, is bad.

Of course it does. Many, many civilians die in every war, which is why it’s a very bad idea to start them. They need to stop.
Jesus.
Proposition 1: Civilians die in wars, because wars are messy. TRUE.
Proposition 2: Intentionally TARGETING civilians (as opposed to them being incidental casualties) is a war crime. ALSO TRUE.
The issue here is not Proposition 1 (sure, it merits its own discussion, the full scope of the war, etc., but that's not what is being raised re the food distribution point slaughters). The issue is Proposition 2.
There is much reason to conclude/evidence demonstrating that the IDF is intentionally targeting and killing civilians at food aid distribution points. If that is true, it is a war crime. We should not support the commission of war crimes, we should demand accountability for such war crimes, particularly because they are using our weapons etc. to do so.
Jesus fucking christ, the dismissal - FFS, the GLEE - reflected in posts that are okay with the intentional murder of civilians is fucking sick. If you support the INTENTIONAL targeting of civilians in Gaza because Hamas is bad and started shit it shouldn't have, you are a genuinely evil piece of shit.

ICE is a military force. And by budget size, it’s something like the 5th largest in the world.
It’s insane. We are a militarized police state, geared entirely at xenophobia.-

Smart, thoughtful candidates with great policy ideas that will actually help the people. In other words, LOSERS.
The Dems cannot win with that shit. Pay attention to the voters, and what they want. They want performative bullshit. The Dems need to find a celebrity, stoke and feed his ego, and get him to run. Yeah, like a McConaughey type. That's it. That's the only prayer the Dems have in a statewide race for the next generation.
Hate it if you you want, but it's true.
