To be fair, the justice system was never designed to or for protection of the Republic. It should work slow as state removal of liberty is big AF.

The people through their congressional representatives were given the ability to impeach, remove, and restrict from office those who would imperil our system of government. There's no such thing as 'beyond a reasonable doubt' in politics.

However, half the people are broken in their brains. Partisan interests have trumped loyalty to the constitution due to monied gentry, religious zealots, and legally anthropomorphic corporations using their $ and power to pervert the very system of government meant to represent the people. Instead it represents entrenched wealth and ideologues who themselves prop up power hungry sociopaths who use politics as a personal means to enrich themselves.

And therefore the only real lever designed to protect us has been perverted to the point where we have to rely of the justice system as a last resort.

Ahem.  Technically, it's the second-to-last resort.

We can see the last resort from here.

Why does a police department own a dump truck?

I saw Austin use quite a few of them several years ago when Obama came to town.  They are quite effective mobile roadblocks to stop car/truck bombs.  Fill them with sand, park them to block the roadway, and you can't get a car bomb through.  In Austin, I saw multiple streets completely blocked off with full dump trucks -- like a dozen of them.

  3. Why isn't it as simple as seeing why the fertility rate falls once an economy becomes developed?  Ask the question "WHY did people historically have a large number of kids?"

Seems that there were two reasons.  1) Labor.  In agrarian societies, kids are farm labor.  You need them around to keep things rolling along.  And 2) higher mortality rates.  Have 5-6 kids, hoping that 2-3 survive past age 7.

In a developed economy, neither of those factors are in play.  Child mortality is rare, and we don't need kids to milk the cows.  Thus, the only reasons to have kids are PERSONAL ones, tied to self-fulfillment and desire, and broad social values.

TLDR; dropping fertility rates are a feature, not a bug, of developed economies.  It's not much more complicated than that, and applies across cultures.  Maybe we should focus on how to make our economies more functional and resilient with that factor in mind.

cofer is the supposed friend of garza?  that would be the same rick cofer who represented kaitlin armstrong.

Yeah, the "the defense lawyer is a friend of the DA!" is a dog whistle for people with zero understanding of how being a professional works.  I am a trial attorney, and opposing counsel is OFTEN someone with whom I am actual personal friends.  Why is that?  Because all-in-all, our profession is a small world.  Most of us in a particular field know each other well.  Why would Garza and Cofer be friends?  Maybe because THEY WORKED TOGETHER AS PROSECUTORS BEFORE COFER LEFT THE OFFICE TO DO DEFENSE WORK.  That is a regular, common thing.  Many - perhaps most - good criminal defense lawyers in most towns spent time as prosecutors.  They see the same folks over and over.  They are friendly, they socialize, the go to Bar activities together.  In short, "Garza and Cofer are friends!" is a giant nothingburger.  "The DA and many defense lawyers in town are friends!" is the full statement, and it's meaningless.

Like I said, I go up against friends all the time.  I don't give my client shitty service because I want to do a favor to my friend, nobody I know would even think of doing that.  In fact...it's kinda fun to go head-to-head against one of your friends and beat them.

Those little shitheads won’t be so tough in gen pop.

Wait....you think that any of them will actually end up in prison?  I must have missed the part where we found out these dudes were poor blacks and browns.  Otherwise...rich white boys don't go to prison.

And you might want to scrub your denigrating remarks about these fine young men.  When they become governors and senators in 25 years or so, they will be looking for payback.

  6. the other voluntary choice is to remain in Gaza, waiting for a slow rebuild, dependent on foreign NGOs for a lifetime because there is no hope and no opportunity.   It's easy to migrate.

Alex…I’ll take “why is there a need for a total rebuild, and no hope or opportunity?” for $500. Oh, and the answer is “what is a lot of shit the IDF and Israel has done and continues to do, including destroying functionally all infrastructure and terrorizing/murdering the population?”
You get people to “voluntarily migrate” by making the place they presently live unlivable. That’s how your stated goal, your perfect plan, is achieved. It’s so simple, even an idiot like me can see it.

  7. Ok, so this is going to be a “three days in London to visit our daughter and one friends,” and “the rest in Scotland” trip.

We’ll head up to Edinburgh to do some Fringe festival stuff during the day, then Tattoo that night. Next morning, we rent a car and drive to Glasgow by way of Lanark to see where my wife’s people are from. A day in Glasgow with the boy, then west.
Take our time going to Oban, lingering in the Cairnbaan area to check out all the Neolithic sites. Spend a day in Oban (distillery, other stuff around town), then ferry over to Mull that evening.
Next day, leave Fionnport on Mull early for a 3 hour trip/tour to Staffa, to see the granite pillars and puffins and such. Return to drop off in Iona, spend the second half of the day walking and pondering Iona (pretty impt spot for Presbyterians and said theological musings these days), then last ferry of the day at 6:30 back over to Mull. Spend the night there, then travel to Skye - trying to decide if we take the route with two ferry crossings (mostly coastal route) or the more inland route through Ft William, which gets us on to Skye via the bridge. Either way, it’s a 6 hr travel day.
Do a bit of Skye late that day, a full day in Skye the next day, then most of the day in Skye…then a 3 hr ferry ride late over to Lewis and Harris island. Next day is a full day on Lewis and Harris (always wanted to see the Calanais standing stones there).
Next morning, EARLY 3 hr ferry to Ullapool. Use that as a base, do some local highland hikes, see the gorge, etc. next day, start the 4 hr trip back to Edinburgh, stopping along the way at various things, maybe passing all the way through Inverness and checking out Culloden. Drop off car and stay at hotel at EDI before morning flight home.

My questions are for folks who have done the islands - does it sound like we’re doing things right, or wrong? Two lengthy ferry trips in there (to and from Lewis and Harris), and I plan on buying tix (including for our car) well in advance. I’m actually booking hotels and such now, so appreciate any input y’all may have.

  8. wow, you are really stupid believing I want them killed off for ethnic cleansing.  You don't know much about this topic , after reading dozens of your posts.  What you wrote is offensive and insulting.

Naah. The killing is just a means to an end. How do you get millions of people to abandon their homes and go somewhere else (your stated goal)? There’s only one tried-and-true method: drive them out. Israel is pursuing your plan using the #1 method for doing so. You should be smiling.
  9. some of you will rejoice (but will deny it)

Israeli strikes on southern Gaza city of Rafah kill 22, mostly children, as US advances aid package

The first Israeli strike in Rafah killed a man, his wife and their 3-year-old child, according to the nearby Kuwaiti Hospital, which received the bodies. The woman was pregnant and the doctors saved the baby, the hospital said. The second strike killed 17 children and two women from an extended family.

“These children were sleeping. What did they do? What was their fault?” asked one relative, Umm Kareem. Another relative, Umm Mohammad, said the oldest killed, an 80-year-old aunt, was taken out “in pieces.” Small children were zipped into body bags.

Mohammed al-Beheiri said his daughter, Rasha, and her six children, the youngest 18 months old, were among those killed. A woman and three children were still under the rubble.

You should be one of them. After all, there’s no better path to your “perfect plan” to ethnically cleanse Gaza than to drive them out with fire.
  10. Rigoni is the futbol equivalent of an automatic out in the batting order. He’s just awful.

    Well…I mean…except for that time.

What the hell? I’ll take it!
