Draft grades in general are fucking stupid. And this hot take is stupid even for draft grades. He is penalizing Dallas for taking high upside infrastructure pieces because the head coach is trying to win now to save his job. Would it have been a good draft for the Cowboys then to act desperately and mortgage away their future to fix one or two immediate holes? By this logic the Vikings must have had an amazing draft.
Well run teams don’t take WR’s and RB’s in early rounds. They take infrastructure pieces. Unless you point out where Dallas reached in taking these players, I don’t see how it’s that low of a grade.
Guys like Rasheen Ali were available in the fifth round. Not sure what their plan is when you could have taken a quality back that late in the draft. Outside of not taking a RB everything else seemed fine. No big reaches and trading down to get Beebe for free was solid.
No one wants Brooks, the top running back taken in the draft over LJ Johnson who might get passed up this season by his own teammate, Ruben Owens. That’s some serious Aggy logic at work.
The hit rate on selecting players that are projected around where Dallas takes them has been pretty good. Getting Beebe for free made this a pretty good draft so far.
I’ve seen some mocks that had Beebe in the first round. Certainly a projected second round player. The adults in the room are definitely running this draft for Dallas.
I realize a lot of this is opinion and conjecture, but who the fuck watched film and thought JJ McCarthy is a better prospect that Penix or Nix? The Vikings took a guy I think that goes in the 3-4th round in any other draft.
Dallas didn’t fuck up the draft so far. They trade back, get the guy most thought they take at 24 and get an extra third round pick. That’s about as good as it could have gone.
I was thinking this with Golden and Bolden. Someone is going to be second team and I cannot think Golden especially came to Texas to be the 4th or 5th guy.
Sure looked that way Saturday. Watching Taaffe’s bizarre play it reminded me of playing Madden 95 on Sega and you clicked to change the player and dive and the player you immediately switched to dives crazily in the wrong direction of the play. It’s the only explanation to explain Taaffe diving randomly into the opposite direction of the play. Someone must of been controlling him remotely and they hit the wrong button.
Agree. I was speaking in context of evaluating the wide receivers. Watching a receiver run a fly route and catching a deep pass against busted coverage doesn’t say much about that receiver. Cook made contested catches for first downs against our best corner and that was encouraging.
Johntay Cook had some really nice routes and catches going up against the ones. He’s definitely one of our starting three. As fun as it is to watch a wide open receiver catch a bomb, that doesn’t tell us much.
On the Manning to Blue TD, Taffe looked like a walk on. He took such a terrible angle that he nearly tore his own ACL. That was brutal to watch. I bet we see Mukuba and Williams as the starting pair for most of the snaps this year.
I feel the same way. If we bring in four players in the portal, who gives a shit who transfers outside of true freshman January. If we had to bring in four defensive tackles, we didn’t have the right players on the roster.
