  2. All good. I fully expect the run game to be mediocre at best. Would love to see 4 per carry, but that probably only happens if you get a 30+ yard run in there. OSU runs a lot of inverted Tampa 2. Not loving the deep ball with Quinn's propensity to throw moon balls and NFL safeties in a 2 high. Have to find ways to get players in space and they have to make someone miss.
  3. I think this is a game, where explosives will be at a premium. 8-10 plays drives vs either defense will be tough sledding. One reason I would like to see more Wingo and Blue (Blue in the passing game). I say that even with the fear of Blue fumbling.
  4. not really the point, but OK. Just saying get your best after the catch player some touches.
  5. I think Sark will come out like normal in big games. He will throw the ball. I could see a heavy dose of short passing game in the game plan. I think getting Blue involved passing game could be big for the offense. Blue is Blue, but if you get him in space he is threat to go 70 yards. Running the ball will be tough. Texas needs to optimize the the runs that are blocked well. Too many times this year RBs have been 1 on 1 with a safety and lose that battle. Have to win some of those this game. Need to get Wingo more involved. He is the best after the catch. I dont care if it is jet sweeps, reverse, screens, or simple slants. He is a play maker. Find a way to get him the ball 6-7 times.
  6. There is something to the idea that people use team accomplishments to judge QBs. I do not think it is the main component of judging QBs though. It is a tertiary element to me. You have to be very good to great at what you do first. Not every NC QB or Super Bowl winning QB is considered great. You start 15 years in the NFL you are going to be a borderline Hall of Famer just for consistency and availability. Eli has 4 Pro Bowl and 15 year of starting in the NFL. Phillip Rivers and Eli are similar. It will be interesting to see if Rivers gets in
  7. I am not putting Street in because I didn’t see him and I know 0 about how he compared to his contemporaries. 1- VY- clearly left college football as the best QB in the country 2- Colt- Heisman finalist.. Junior was freakish. 500+ yards rushing. Over 75% comp, 34 TDS, 8 ints… was he the best QB college country? I think so, but it was certainly a debate After that there is a big drop in my eyes. 3- Ehlinger - guy would do anything to win. You need a 4th down conversion. Bam Bam Sam will get it. Responsible for 41 TDs as a sophomore and 39 as a Junior. Very good college Qb, but nobody ever said he was the best QB in the nation 4. Ewers- he can pass Ehlinger. Similar to Elhinger. Very good QB, but never in the discussion as the best QB in the country. I maybe discounting him, because he has Sark and Sam had Herman.
  8. Honestly, they 4th and short jet sweep gave me mixed feelings. 1. Sweet, 1st down 2. WTF, Texas cant just run the ball up the gut on an undersized DL.
  9. Michigan played a ton of 2 high vs OSU. The key to their win was 2 fold. 1. OSU tried to reverse the narrative and out-physical Michigan 2. Michigan stopped their run game with light boxes. They have arguably the best DT duo in the country. This is where I would love to have Sweat back for 1 game.
  10. Just for the record that play is RPO. WR screen up top.
  11. Helm can come off sooner, but its a 4 yard gain. Not much to bitch about here.
  12. Always thought the correct way to look at these comparisons is to compare them to their contemporaries. Game has changed so much from VY, Colt, to Ewer let alone Street. I didnt see Street, so I really have no way to base an opinion on where he belongs. I do have VY and Colt above Ewers. Both of those guys were the best QB in the nation or in a heated discussion for that honor for at least one season. Quinn has not
  13. Never seen Street, but he went 20-0 and won a NC. So if wins and NC are the measure, I figure he has to be pretty high on the list
  14. not to mention Texas ran it with Bijan and that really fit him. You never knew where he would end up. Playside D gap or backside A gap. It will be interesting to see if Texas reverts to the IZ next year.
  15. that seems to be the way of the 2024 Texas offense. When you give up on something, it comes back and makes you look stupid. When you believe, they come out and kick you in the nuts. Though I doubt that happens vs OSU. This is probably the best defense Texas has played. Their edges are very good.
  16. Its a bit of an odd match. "Big Humans, Big Humans!!" lets makes OZ the core concept. So the OL is big, but wants to block horizontally. That has oddly been the staple, because of the interior OL (mostly Conner and Majors). The OTs can straight up mash people downhill.
  17. I just dont see that. Wingo is doing the typical backside WR blocking thing. He gets downfield, gets in between, and waits for a reaction. Moore gets into the NB and walls him off (nice block). Goosby is firing off at the LB, lunges at him, and misses. Golden could be running a route, but a go route on an RPO would be highly unusual. Read option looks like the play, until you see the guard pulling and Texas rarely runs it. Not sure what is going on here. Maybe someone else on here can figure it out. All I know is the hand off was the call. Quinn was DOA holding the ball there.
  18. Guys are hash. If was a poor game. From what I saw I put more of that in the feet of Sark and Flood for not having them prepared, but the OL has been nails in pass pro. Big reason for Quinn's success the last 2 games is he has had excellent protection.
  19. The play is fucked, because the OL failed to handle the movement. Dorbah slants and shoots the gap. He beats Campbell to the spot. Campbell feet are behind him. He ends up knocking him down and moving him out, but he cannot stop the penetration. This screwed for 2 reasons. Goosby doesnt even put a hand on Dorbah and Campbell makes a bad first step (he stepping straight forward on a 45 degree angle). The DTs are running a stunt. Conner has a good step and walls off the slanting DT. He cant stop the penetration. That also knocks Banks off. He has no chance to get the looping DT, who makes the tackle. Majors whiffs on the ILB, he is there to make tackle if the DT does not. This is great example of how the OL was not prepared to handle movement up front from the ASU dline. This is was a technique and communication issue.
  20. the whole thing is mystifying. It is not RPO. I agree Texas rarely runs read option and it would be odd to trap the end on a read option. I think Quinn just spaced on the play. If Wisner spaced, you would think it would be a fumble, but that is pure speculation. Very strange play
  21. Sark can be frustrating at times. He loves to get creative with motions and formations vs top level opponents. It can disappear vs opponents he doesn’t deem worthy. I would expect a lot of motion vs OSU. I hope to see empty looks designed to get OSU to declare coverages and motions back into more standard looks. Sark is capable of stealing a quarter with his game plan. That is kind of an unknown for this game. How good is that opening script
  22. Texas defense should be able to slow the OSU offense. Key will be stopping the run and getting OSU in obvious passing downs. Freshmen Simmons is pure speed off the edge. I think Donovan (assume he is still at OT) will struggle with him like PSU game. Texas also has athletic DTs that can give your guards issues I have fears about the offense. Quinn is can be one of the best passers in CFB when he has clean pockets and knows where to go with the ball. When defenses make him move or think, shit can go sideways fast. That probably sounds familiar to you and your QB.
  23. So Dorbah did shoot the gap and went under Goosby.
  24. You have to start from the beginning to get an idea of what happened. Dorbah is an Edge. I am guessing he shot the gap on a stunt and beat Campbell to the spot (purely a guess). Possible Goosby whiffed on him, instead of getting an arm on him to help Campbell. Campbell is beat by speed as his shoulders are parallel to the sideline. All he can do is push him laterally, he can not stop him from getting up field. This is about leverage and positioning, not strength and toughness
