  1. I'm thinking about gettting a Sunday ticket for Miami. They start at $588 and go way up from there. I just have to drive across Alligator Alley to go so other than the ticket not many expenses.
  2. If you use all the perks it easily pays for itself.
  3. I use their travel portal to book hotel rooms. Chase UR points do go farther for hotel redemptions but I accumulate Amex MR points at a rapid pace. For flights I always transfer points to the airline.
  4. We're headed to Miami for a couple of days tomorrow. If you want Cuban food in South Beach go to Sazon. Very good (my wife is Cuban) and huge portions. We'll probably eat at one of the Prime restaurants as I feel Joe's is overrated. Prime Seafood is a good, although very expensive, alternative. For good Mexican Lola's Cantina at the Marriott Stanton South Beach is priced well for food and drink. At the very least it's a place in SOBE where you don't have to spend $25 for a cocktail.
  5. I was thinking about doing the Aosta Valley but it felt too ambitious. If it was a three week trip I'd have added that.
  6. I was hoping you’d chime in. It looks like day trips from Bologna to Modena and to Verona. We may add a third to Parma or Padua. Probably Parma. The vineyards in Tuscany and Piemonte are the ones I’ve found you need a res for.
  7. Sorry to tell you but it's already in the Keys. It's going to be brutal here when it gets into the canals. The stench will be worse than the dead fish from the red tide that just ended. I expect locusts and pestilence next.
  8. Sometimes the Surly sarcasm goes whoosh right over my head. I have been impressed by the three rookies so far. None have binned a car and they've all driven well given what they have to drive.
  9. Pioneer Woman has a pretty solid salsa recipe on her site.
  10. Not directed at you. She's from Ireland. I'm fairly certain English is her first language.
  11. If you want to get away from the crowd on Capri take the bus up to Anacapri. It’s very nice. You can also take a cable car to the top of the mountain and hike down. Easy hike.
  12. The last time I was there the tapas were about 1-5 euro a piece. It's such a great place to try a lot of little bites.
  13. The big mercado in Madrid is really cool and there's something for everyone there. Mercado San Miguel
  14. Fuck. That’s beautiful.
  15. We are taking the train between cities. We'll be in Bologna for 5 days. We could do a train to Ferrara but in Modena we want to do the balsamic vinegar tour and visit the Ferrari museum. I'l have to check to see what distances are involved when we get to Modena and if we can just taxi if needed to sites. And thank you for the train suggestion! It's usually the first thing I think of. Doh!
  16. Car rentals. We'll be renting for the Dolomites, Tuscany and Piedmonte. I thought about renting for 5 days in Bologna but the rate is so high that it exceeds the cost of the other rentals combined by 300 euro. I can use mydaytrip.com and have a private driver to go to Modena and Ferrara on separate days for 500 euro less than a Bologna car rental. Plus I won't have the hassle of parking and paying for parking in a city. Weird. We found the same in Spain. It was cheaper to be chauffeured than to rent.
  17. It's like last season is extended.
  18. I'd skip Venice before I'd train in and out in one day. Useless waste of the little time you have there IMO. The whole day is traveling. On time spent I think you're overdoing Rome and underdoing Firenze but if you skip Venice the split between the two cities seems fine.
  19. We will be driving a lot. In Bologna we may do daytrips to Modena and Ferrara and get a driver or I may rent a car there. In the Dolomites, Tuscany and Piedmonte we'll have a car for sure.
  20. I've done the Amalfi Coast so bagging Cinque Terre with the difficult travel from Bologna wasn't a tough decision.
  21. Cinque Terre has been scratched. I have zero desire to deal with cruise ship passengers. Instead we are going to stay on one of my favorite piazzas at Greve in Chianti. I'll also get to go to my favorite little vineyard in Tuscany so it's a win, win. A horrific travel day is avoided and no cruise people. Thanks rage. We're doing five days in Bologna so I will be sure to go there and to give him your regards.
  22. And now I'm figuring out to get from Bologna to Cinque Terre. It's not an easy one and looks like 4 hours on trains.
  23. Thank you for the recommendation. We will definitely take the train between at least some of the towns.
  24. Too late to edit. We're staying in Treviso, not Verona.
  25. Here's where we are now. 9/15 Milan, 9/16-9/18 Verona (daytrip to Burano and Murano), 9/18-9/21 Dolomites, 9/21-9/26 Bologna (with daytrips to Modena and Ferrara), 9/26-9/28 Cinque Terre (will just hang out in and explore one town, no hiking), 9/28-10/1 Piedmonte region (Serralunga), 10/1 Milan hotel for 10/2 flight home. Two days to have a car and explore the Dolomites. We've done Venice before so we'll stay in Verona to check it out and train to Venice for the Murano and Burano daytrip. Bologna we'll take a little time to explore and daytrip without having to pack and travel for several days. Cinque Terre we're interested in but don't feel like spending a ton of time there. Piedmonte will be at our favorite little agritourismo in the middle of the Barolo wine region. Exploring and vineyards will be filling our days. Thoughts are welcome.
