  1. Well, Prophet Bluto was correct. Niedermeyer’s men did wind up fragging him.
  2. You are entirely correct that Russia, as a thing, has always been and will always be an outcast from civilized nations who have largely forsaken the, “ I don’t give a shit about your territorial borders - if you have something I want, I will take it by force” philosophy. With Russia, it is a feature, not a bug. it’s military and economy and institutions need to be ground down and destroyed to the point where they finally understand that they will only be able to eat a potato in a room with heat in the winter, unless they give up their nukes. I am not saying they will give up their nukes, but I am saying that many will be starving in the cold for decades because they won’t. And sitting right next to Russia will be Ukraine - a nation that gave up its nuclear weapons and embraced what western civilization could bring. Ukraine will arise as a regional power, a direct contrast to the starving and impoverished nation shitting in cold out houses right across the border. The leaders in the vertical of power will never give up their nukes so long as they are in power. it appears very likely that they will not be in power for long. But we still have not wrapped our heads around how truly fucked Russia is. Their economy is destroyed. We tend to forget that the now-broke government is currently unable to make payments to regional governments to cover the most basic necessities for its citizen. And Moscow does not care if the regions from which it sucked the minority meat soldiers all starve this winter. Manufacturing is dead. Transportation is dead. Since they’ve turned to a war economy, all private Enterprises not related to the war effort have mostly ceased. And the most important tell that I have read is that Russia’s largest state run and backed defense industry companies are all deeply in the red - this despite the government ostensibly propping up those companies. They will have to come up with a word more powerful than recession for what Russia is about to enter into for the next many decades. Post World War I Germany is not even a good template, as it was far easier for Germany, a much smaller country than Russia, to re-emerge as a strong economy after a few decades. Russia’s vast size and disparate populations will present an almost impossible logistical nightmare to an economy trying to return. And when Germany failed, at least the victorious allies (with small exception) did not divide Germany among the victors. it is incomprehensible to me that China would not seize large sections of valuable Russian territory in the east. China has never abandoned its claims to Russian territory. This last thing is the most frightening scenario to me and the greatest chance of an actual nuclear confrontation. if Russia somehow revolted against Putin and reclaimed their government today - nothing about that effort will prevent the ruinous future that they will be facing - nor will it prevent the decades of poverty and the loss of basic services for its citizens. The Ukrainians have already destroyed Russia. That is a fait accomple The only remaining issue is what damage Ukraine (and the world) will suffer from its death throes..
  3. My short haired fox hound does not like “feels like 26”
  4. I can’t think of any reason, but this is probably the thread to put it in
  5. So - like the end of the college football season at Kyle Field?
  6. The Supreme Court ruling about sending troops to Chicago gave me more relief than I’m willing to admit. If he had the green light to send federal troops to any Democratic city he deemed a threat, that would certainly encourage the coup attempt. Naturally, three justices were all for it. But still, very significant in avoiding what might’ve been.
  7. Why I still visit X occasionally.
  8. If those two were aligned instead of divergent, a lot of this country’s problems would likely be solved.
  9. it’s like when you think democracy is down and out, and then democracy suddenly sees a Farrah Fawcett poster!
  10. They won’t release the files, but it’s pretty clear that Saint Nick was a frequent visitor to Krampus Island.
  11. He should’ve said he would never do that in a million years because that was wrong. But he would absolutely enjoy seeing it if it somehow did happen. Which is likely what he actually meant before his eighth beer.
  12. If it was done in order to flee Columbus, Ohio - that would be a likely “not guilty”.
