I do not remember who spoke at my commencement in 1988.

I am so thankful that McRaven spoke at my daughter's commencement in may 2014.  It was memorable.

I suspect that Acho's will be memorable as well but for different reasons.

That was one of McRaven's opening remarks. he said he had no idea who spoke at his so something like "if you can't be memorable be brief". Of course he was memorable.

I just checked on my bumpers and in South Austin they wanted $300 per bumper including the bolts and doing minor straightening.  Repops are about $150 each.

My bumpers and overiders were about 600 each which is OK. Just got another quote and everyone wants 150 each for dog dish half moon hubcaps. My top amount is 100 and that is almost 3x aftermarket. I am not doing a show car so I guess aftermarket is it

  3. has anyone rechromed hubcaps? I can buy knock off of the dog dish caps for 35 bucks but the rechromers want 150 per cap. I know the 35 bucks ones are probably crap but 600 bucks ain't cheap either

Can't you just find the correct formula and have your paint shop guys match it? What year is the car?

    1969 - 1971 MG Paint Charts RM 1.jpg

That's the problem.  British used cellulose paint in 60's and single stage. No one sells it anymore and it probably had lead in it. So you are about 2-3 degrees of freedom from the original. Best hope is to match the original in an odd place - like the back of the dash etc.

  5. Man choosing paint is not easy. I know what I want - the same as we used in the 80's. Unfortunately you can't buy that anymore. After 2 years up north being

worked on mechanically it is getting close to paint time. In the early 80's we matched the original paint and got PPG paint in the color below. Unfortunately that

is not longer sold. The interwebs are full of stories of matching MGA Iris Blue and it seems like maybe/possibly the 1979 VW Florida Blue is it. Getting samples

sent to me. Really wish Dad had left an old can around somewhere to make it easier

  6. James was proof that heart mattered. He was told his entire life that he was "too small". Dude flat out could play. I think he played 5 years in NFL and at one point had the NFL single season record for total yardage. And it stood for a long time. RIP - you were a player.

My Mom bought a set of 1962 World Book and had the yearly update for several years. Would kill to get my hands on them now. One thin g that stood out to me was highlighting Great Southwest International as the world's most modern jet airport. 10 years or so later it wouldn't even exist.

Look at estate sales. Lots of encyclopedia's show up there

I have programmed a second fob for three different cars. Yep - it's a racket with dealers. For the cars I found, that if you have at least one working remote, you can do it. Instruction for the cars were on the web. It definitely involved a lot of goofy crap (turn key three times, lock/unlock doors three times etc) to get into programming mode. In the end the on line instruction saved a bunch. For all three I used factory key/fob. On the older 4Runner I got it from junkyard.

  11. Probably starting a flame war but does anyone use the chronograph function on Daytonas or other chronos?  Every vendor seems to have a model but wondering if anyone uses it. On the other hand I haven't used the rotating bezel on my Sub very much either

That's in the ballpark of what I just paid for one vehicle--- ~$125 with taxes/ royalties/ etc.  So, there's probably some wiggle room to negotiate.  They said going forward that I would be auto-renewed at this price, and not have to do the annual price savings dance.  I set a calendar reminder to make sure.

They said the opposite to me. Mine will auto renew at list price so I get to call next year. I am just glad to get 12 months and both cars on same bill. used to have to call every six months for 2 cars = 4 calls per year

It's 100% real and I'm the guy that had to play with him for 18 holes... I sent the video to Zire golf. He used that yardage stick on every single shot. The stick had a bunch of writing on it and had different lines for where to place the ball for every club. It was insane. And when he got to the green, he used his range finder for every putt outside of 10 feet. This was for a work trip a few years ago and that round was so brutal that I got absolutely hammered that day.

Can you play thru your own foursome?

Crisco. Bardol. Vagisil. Any one of them will give you another twenty to thirty yards on your drive. Of course, if the other players are watching me close, I just put a little jalapeño inside my nose and get it running, and if I need to load the driver up a little, just wipe my nose.”

I think we need a side thread on how to cheat at golf

Dumb question amnesty please. When people say “it’s to get the watch serviced”, what does that mean? Do you know it’s time by performance, or just every 5 years bring it in the shop?

On my Sub it was time when it totally stopped running.

Fun fact. 15 years or so ago the unscrupulous among us would smear a thin layer of chap stick on their drivers to knock the spin down and make the ball go farther.

Not sure if it still works with new ball construction but depending on the viscosity of your pudding and application thickness you might be messy AND over the green. You should test it out and report back.

Th judges would have accepted vaseline also. Players used it for years to cut down the spin and make the ball avoid hooks or slices

Yep. Used it for syncing twin SU carbs.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I was a poor grad student and had to use the cheap method - piece of rubber hose in the ear and listening. SU (Seldom Understood) carb's were a piece of work. The manual was no help - it said "turn the adjusting nut until it sounds right". The problem was 3 dimensional. Had to get it sounding right on 2 devices and get the rpm's correct. Getting 2 of the 3 was easy.
