  1. Went to Ft Worth last weekend for the Pearl Jam concert. Wife and I each picked up a pair at Rod Patrick’s. My first pair of full quills.
  2. Three recs for L&J Cafe on the surl = sold for me. In on those carnitas.
  3. This looks legit
  4. Thanks for the food recs. Is there a cultural area there for shopping and/or bars?
  5. Wife and I are going to the Foo Fighters concert in El Paso in a couple of weeks. I was there once on a cross-country Clark Griswold style vacation; I was in the first grade. A million years ago. Looking for recommendations for an interesting area to stay and restaurant recs. For reference, we usually stay at Hotel San Jose in Austin, and prefer locally owned restaurants/ food trucks. Wife is looking to hit up Rocketbuster for a pair of custom boots. I’m gonna try to convince her to recreate the tradition founded at the sun bowl. Will report on my success or failure of this mission.
  6. They’re just the dumbest people imaginable
  7. Just saw that Charlatans (UK) with Ride are doing shows in Jan in austin and dallas. In for this show. I always dug the manchester scene sound. Ride’s Going Blank Again was in heavy rotation back in the day. Twisterella always makes it on my 90’s playlists.
  8. Does bono have a last name?
  9. Yeah. Bono’s kid. I didn’t know that until after their set. I liked ‘em. Need to listen to some of their studio stuff. Their live performance was good; plenty of ambient noise to add depth. Gave me a pumpkins vibe a bit.
  10. It was fucking glorious Vedder came out before the opening band and did throw your arms around me then introduced Inhaler.
  11. Made the trip down from Dallas last night to see the PJ show tonight. Wife is working in San Antonio today and driving up mid afternoon. Hoping for a great show to close out the tour.
  12. Lulz. 6 ft and 205 lb here. I’m svelte compared to the other GenX dudes we saw at the show.
  13. Of the random sampling of people around me before the show, 3 people were seeing PJ for the first time; all of which were 40+ yrs old. Another guy had seen them 35 times and another 10 times. That was my third time. Deep cut set lists are for people having already seen them several times. Your 90% number there to see deep cuts doesn’t check out based on those numbers. Take two deep cuts off the setlist and replace with any of black, animal, wishlist, daughter, nothingman, not for you, corduroy, go, or given to fly, and it’s a damn good set. Eddie calling out Mike before alive tells you what eddie thought of the set list. Regarding Dickies, the art deco architecture is beautiful. I suspect that is what masks its deficiencies with the people you spoke with. The seats are too narrow; it’s difficult to argue that point. Restroom set up is reasonably good. Hallways are much too narrow to accommodate the merch sale line, concession lines, and general thoroughfare. Dickies suffers from form follows function failure in my opinion.
  14. Also, Dickies Arena seating sucks. Seats are wider on airlines. Not exaggerating. Viewing is poor because 1) the seats are too close together and 2) the seating on the “sidelines” is very close to the court. Bands play in the “end zone” so the angle to view the band results in your neighbor in the audience blocking your view. Lousy venue.
  15. Fri night set list for PJ had too many deep cuts. It was my wife’s first time seeing pearl jam, and I got damn frustrated with them for it. They played some goddamn disco song for fuck’s sake. Can’t include black but can fit in a disco song? Eddie knew going in the set list would disappoint and told the audience that mike mccready made the set list leading into evenflow. I get the band wants to change things up but not everyone has seen the band live 10+ times. People that had seen them a bunch were happy with the deep cuts but people that drop $200 and never seen them before want their best Only thing that pulled the set list out of the ditch was surprisingly playing Yellow Ledbetter to close the show. That being said, Eddie sounded amazing. He held one note for like 10 seconds to close out one song. Truly remarkable given his age. Wife is now toying with the idea of an Austin show to get a better set list.
  16. Agreed. My philosophy now is that any interaction I have with cops now is to not have any additional holes in me when the interaction concludes. My strategy is be super nice and non-threatening. I rarely get a ticket when employing this strategy.
  17. This was decades ago in college. It was around midnight, and I had just gotten off work. We had to wear a tie to work way back then. So, I was dressed to back up my story. I was doing about 45 in a 30-35. I was headed to taco bell because I needed food badly. Also, I’m type 1 diabetic and I could feel my blood sugar dropping. Red lights behind me. I pull over and get out to walk back to the cop. Again, this was decades ago 1990-ish. I explain my situation to the cop. Diabetic. Blood sugar low. Taco bell. He asks for something to prove I’m a diabetic. I had a card in my wallet so I pull out my wallet and fumble through it. I may have played my situation up a bit by dropping a few things on the ground. Cop tells me to come back to his car. I’m sitting in the front seat and show him my diabetic card. He calls a officer and tells him to buy me a candy bar from a convenience store and drive it over to us. I get a warning and a free snickers. Lesson - If you can somehow trigger a cop’s “to serve and protect” instinct, you might have a good outcome.
  18. There is only one way to handle traffic stops. Approach them with the philosophy that you’ll make it the most pleasant experience the cop will have all day. Smile. Be charming. Be respectful. Thank the cop for doing their job and for pointing out your error. I don’t get pulled over often but I normally just get a warning. In college, one officer even bought me a candy bar. You make it confrontational and only bad things happen.
  19. I saw Joshua Radin on Fri night at kessler. It was like going to a coffee shop. He tells lots of stories between songs and apparently has a very loyal following. He said he doesn’t have a setlist as he “doesn’t want to be beholden to a piece of paper”. He does have a list of songs “so that he can remember songs he’s written”. Entertaining guy. I got Pearl Jam in Ft worth on Fri night. They canceled tonight’s show in Indy due to illness . Hope things turn around because my wife may lose her mind if she misses this show after missing the okc show last year. Later this month, I have Off With Their Heads in deep ellum.
  20. Urban dictionary is still a thing, right?
  21. From the outside you can’t understand it. From the inside you can’t explain it. Also, you’re being very generous using the word “think” when referring to maga.
  22. You don’t seem very cool, crazy and fabulous.
