  1. I haven't smoked on any sort of regular basis since 2005 or so, but when I did I generally smoked Parliament Menthols or Benson and Hedges. Now that smoking is becoming a lost art, I'm just randomly curious what was popular elsewhere is time and space.

TexAgs represents the weirdness of the hard core Aggie in most things. Their political board, which I can only rarely stomach, is a study in MAGA thinking such as it is.

I enjoy that they can never imagine a place where having all wheel drive is immensely useful.

Certain flagship schools have different ways of self-identification.  Almost nobody that is a Wolverine alum says, "UM" or "U of M", it's always Michigan.  Nobody says "University of California", it's "Cal" or "Berkeley."  Illini don't say, "U.I." or "Illinois-Urbana/Champaign", it's "U of I."  When I'm outta state, I'll say either "UT" or "Texas", usually Texas.  When I'm within our borders, it's always "UT."  They all make sense in their own way.

What has never made any fucking sense to me is whey University of Oklahoma is "OU" and not "UO"   Same with KU, CU, and NU.  And they all have the same justification "Well, that's how all the other schools do it" as if that is some valid rationale.  There are a handful of state flagships that are actually chartered that way, "IU" is actually called "The Indiana University", same with "Ohio University" (there is no such place as University of Ohio), and WVU (there is no University of West Virginia).  There is no such place as the University of New Jersey.

We are "Texas" or "UT", always and forever.  Only the Board of Regents has to make that "UT-Austin" or "UT-Arlington" differentiation for political reasons.  Aggies and anybody else who doesn't get that can get fucked.  Now if you'll excuse my rant, I have to write my application essays for Wisconsin State University.

I’ll note that at least for Nebraska, that NU is almost exclusively used for athletics. Within the state it’s either UNL or simply the U.

According to the SI article I read 15-20 years ago on this, the held back year was 8th grade so they could enter high school a year older. Usually involved moving schools so that kids didn't get ridiculed for repeating a grade they passed. Was all about making the kid as old and as strong as possible in hopes of being drafted. The baseball draft open to high schoolers and being 40 rounds until a few years ago is what was driving it.

Which is why we have a bunch of data showing that the younger HS draftees pan out at a higher rate than the ones that were old for their class. Also ties into why the Oline is the least predictable recruiting ranking vs. performance position group too.

  5. So if the IDF pushes hard into Gaza, does the north and/or West Bank pop off significantly while they are pre-occupied? Also since every one is talking about Israel striking Iran, that a pretty good haul for the planes they have at their disposal right?

Germany has always had some authoritarian tendencies (I mean, the nazis didn't pop up out of nowhere), and they REALLY still have them in the former East Germany (went from one authoritarian state to another).  Hell, see the fact that there's some populist authoritarian shit on the left there, too.

When culturally the two things that make you horniest are rules and schisa that’s what you get.

It looks great. I wonder if other programs will do something similar? I just don't know that even we could sell out DKR for a volleyball game, unless it was against a certain team. With Nebraska, they would sell out regardless.

I almost wanted the match to be against someone other than Omaha for more of a highlight.

When it’s volleyball day in Nebraska you have take care of the state schools which is why you had the Wayne/UNK opener, plus you got more Nebraska kids as part of it. (Omaha’s Middle Blocker is a down the line cousin so that added a little to it for me too)

Paywalled article in Bloomberg yesterday about how retailers are finally putting stuff on sale again. Clothes, shoes, appliances..etc.

Anecdotally, I have noticed a lot more "40% off sitewide" deals from apparel brands lately.

I noticed that too, and bought some corduroy pants to try and manifest fall.

We’re here for a concert and were able to watch the air show for a few miles coming into town. Unexpected surprise.

They really give everyone a free show, which is nice. Really takes the magic out of stadium flyovers once you’ve had them come over low when getting the mail.

I'm real interested to see if he was actually on the plane. With the high-ranking connections a lot of people assume he has, it's possible he could have been tipped off. Or he could've faked his death. Wasn't he in Mali yesterday afternoon? Seems odd to fly from Mali to St. Petersburg and then to Moscow since Moscow would be a shorter trip.

The trick is figuring out where the quotation marks are on Prizghovin dies in plane crash.

Shifting gears, slightly. Burns is a very small town on Marion County's southern border.

I am told he is a former MarionCoKs Sheriff's Deputy.

If someone with better skills would post this to the drag queen thread, I would be much obliged.

Not saying it's related but Dennis Francione's first Head Coaching job was at Peabody-Burns.

  12. There has been a significant proliferation of fancy tunnel car washes around me lately with more coming. Are car washes are really good business and I just didn’t realize it or is it a piece of some bigger real estate thing or what not?
