What I DO know is that Putin's little 3-day Special Operation is now officially in contention for "The Mother of all Backfires."

Plan was to waltz into Ukraine and loot it -- expanding Russia's effective border/buffer, and further enriching its oligarchs.

    Outcome.....

Russia economically ostracized, LITERALLY cutting off its pipelines of cashflow from Europe.  And that ain't coming back.

Causing NATO to expand by adding two real-deal formidable countries (and Ukraine's future membership still TBD).

Already in demographic decline, causing the people who could drive Russia's economy to either flee, or die in the war.

Instead of demonstrating your military might to the world, demonstrating that your military is shit.

Instead of putting on a kick-ass advertisement for your military kit, so other countries would buy it, you've shown it to be shit and nobody's gonna be buying.

Not that it matters, because you can't fucking build any more kit anyway.

Instead of deposing the Ukrainian leadership, you've destabilized your own.

And there's more.  Those are just the biggies that jump out.  What an absolute fuck-up.

I’m sure they would have sailed a good chunk of their navy halfway around the world to immediately get their asses kicked on arrival if given the chance too

Is it odd that I have no clue who John Rich is?

Just means you weren't listening to country radio from 2005-2007ish, and stayed away from places that feature those people later on. Or weren't big into Lonestar in the 1990's. (I'll always stand by No News as one of the top country bangers from that decade.)

Because it's too expensive for a small town to do a rubble recovery.  You want them to carefully pick apart that big pile and then demolish the building after they find all the bodies?  Why not just demolish now and then as you're cleaning the pile just deal with the bodies as you find them?  That's their logic I'm guessing.

Davenport is the largest of the Quad Cities and the anchor of a 380k metro area, plus John Deere is HQed there so you would think heavy equipment wouldn’t be a problem to find.

On a grain corridor note, it'll likely fade in importance with Ukraine having smaller crops to ship coming forward on account of the war and all, so they'll have less trapped grain due to overland routes anyway. The big thing for grain stuff is what Russia choses to do with their own coming off a big crop last year, and likely a smaller one this year.

  5. On a side note to earlier inflation stuff, besides eggs retracting their beginning of the year surge, you have pork packer margins turning negative and cattle margins close with pork the cheapest it has ever been relative to beef on a whole sale basis. It seems that right now packers are willing to eat the losses to hold market share. Cattle are still going to be tight for awhile but we probably have enough rain to stop herd liquidation for now and should be kicking off the rebuilding of numbers. Pigs and broilers are up numbers wise and should stay flat at worst for now. Veg oil is at the lowest levels we have seen in quite some time too. Nitrogen fertilizer looks to be about 40% of this years number going to the next crop year as well.
