  1. The cold reality is the B1G/Pac actually do have enough clout to make the others look reckless if they try to play. There's not enough time for many players to transfer, and the good ones will go pro anyway. I'm curious if some G5 league like Sun Belt or MWC would try to just play in the fall for TV purposes. They aren't making the playoff, and might be able to keep whatever pro prospects they have for a fall season.
  2. There are some good points in the Klatt video, though he doesn't explain why he called out the media on twitter the day before. One thing he mentions but doesn't spell out is the massive testing programs the schools were beginning to implement...players and staff are much safer continuing to go through that process than just shutting it down, games or not. I guess we don't really know if athletes will still be tested if seasons are postponed. Most likely not, and it wouldn't be surprising if schools canceled their test orders rather than give them to other students/staff.
  3. What is spring football normally, like 6 weeks? I can see them trying to bump that up to 10 weeks or so, maybe play 8 games plus CCGs and CFP. Then carve off a couple non-conf games in fall 2021. TV money will be there, quite possibly some level of ticket revenue too. I know people care about NFL defections, but there will be plenty of great players. Teams will just be younger. That said, it's pointless to speculate on the COVID situation at that point.
  4. Well, sounds like college football will be officially called off in the next 48 hours. Get ready for an explosion of idiocy along the lines of Beruit last week. Small blasts from AL, GA and FL combine into a massive wave all the way to Cali.
  5. OK, it's over. Conditions in much of the country have improved but still dangerous, though who knows if that has anything to do with this decision. Like Jay Bilas said, whatever medical advice they've gotten recently, the powers that be have an obligation to share that publicly as it would be valuable to all sorts of other ventures. So I expect them to hide behind vague "safety" and "too many unknowns" statements. Then immediately pivot to defending their decision to allow other students on campus.
  6. I know I've been giving more sunny perspectives about CFB than most, although personally I never gave it even a 50 percent chance of happening in fall. I admit I was up to like 40 percent when teams were practicing last week. But I'm below 20 percent after reading the OU news below. Riley has been a leader on the virus front all year, and for them to just quietly announce practice is paused, Mo State game is pushed back into September despite only one positive out of 205 tests recently...notice the nod to "conversations across the country."
  7. Riley has "paused" practice for a week because they have decided not to play on Aug. 29 after all, game will be pushed back into September. Also he gave an ominous nod to "conversations across the country with regard to the 2020 season." Only one positive test out of 205 in their last two rounds. Hate to say it, but Riley has navigated the COVID crisis as well as anyone, at least with his public comments and actions.
  8. Great song & album, but mainly posting for the dark performance by Aiden Gillen (Carcetti/Littlefinger)
  9. Nothing really happened this week COVID-wise to make presidents all of a sudden decide to shut down practices. Hell, many leagues' schedules were set for late September so they could gauge any outbreaks on campus before holding actual games. Presidents aren't following sports day-to-day, but surely they were aware of money being spent on housing, testing, etc. So maybe it's something else:
  10. ^That would make more sense if they delayed players coming back in person before pulling the plug. They've spent a bunch of money on that and on testing. Maybe we take them at their word for now, they don't want to rush into contact practices after just a few days of meetings and workouts. Get through another round or two of testing to see if the coast is clear to proceed.
  11. I have no idea what a university president's workflow is like, but I find it hard to believe they authorized: opening of facilities, hundreds of student-athletes brought back to campus to begin practice (helmet or no), and most importantly the release of full season football schedules which would activate their 8-figure TV contracts if played. Only to turn around days later and say, nah it's too dangerous.
  12. MAC cancels 2020 football, guess that's the big story because it is a big story Initial reaction - it's debatable whether this was mainly a financial call or due to safety concerns. McMurphy article says NIU pulling out due to safety was the catalyst, and their president is from the medical field. The rest of the league didn't want to go without NIU. But they obviously stood to lose a ton of money off guarantee games, and their TV contract (with no fans) probably wasn't gonna make enough difference.
  13. Added Florida at home, and a road trip to Knoxville...good luck with that. Also LOL Mizzou gets Bama & LSU now

Guess I shouldn't have tempted fate with my post yesterday, apologies (although it's Cards again so the question is still valid)
  15. Has there been a COVID liability lawsuit that has any legs in the five months we've been dealing with this? Meatpackers, Amazon warehouses? I know it takes time and money for those things to unfold, but surely Pac-12 realizes the legal odds are in their favor. Watch the movie "Dark Waters"...DuPont was knowingly poisoning drinking sources, they had to settle some suits years later but they aren't exactly out of business today. Whether that's right or WRONG is a cloak room matter
  16. Been with this show since day 1, even started a thread here back then. My LOL rate at whatever Christian DeVille (Lance Reddick) says is pretty close to 100 percent, and Grace (Aparna Nancherla) isn't far behind
  17. A large, incredibly loyal fan base that gets drunk and aren't total assholes? That's what they've done to be P5, dickhead
  18. Had to go back and check we weren't calling this an "NFL Survivor pool" because, damn that doesn't sound right in 2020
  19. Maybe the partiers (athletes and other students) are mostly immune by now. Gotta watch out for the sheltered ones who can finally break loose from their suffocating families. Only expecting 50% campus population so I guess that will help
  20. SEC will test players twice per week, typically Sunday and Wednesday. The other conferences need to do this, especially for the first month when we'd expect to see a higher number of positives. Wish it could be daily, but hopefully this snuffs out any team-wide outbreaks before they get going. Also really cuts down on chances virus transmits during a game. SEC also requiring face coverings for everyone on sidelines. Even participating players are supposed to have neck gaiter they can pull up when they come off the field (that one seems tough and probably not necessary).

  22. Good luck to y'all...seems like symptoms have been around a few days, so hopefully you're on the back end of it. Lots of people keep testing positive for a while even when they feel recovered.

Other than the MIA & STL outbreaks, has a single MLB player been ruled out with COVID since the regular season began? USA Today tracker shows none since July 22. Votto and Moustakas had concerns but turned out negative. Teams don't have to disclose names, but it would probably leak after a few days.

  25. This is true, but I worry about Trump quickly spinning it into "Dems coming for your guns" all through the campaign. That resonates with low-info and bad-info swing state voters, who won't read a word about the actual lawsuit(s) but just hear the distorted message.
