  1. Re-post from LA Clippers thread...technically works here too (and maybe ATL-LA)
  2. This has felt like a loss since the muffed punt at the beginning. SMU just hasn't cashed in enough 7's and can't count on their defense to get stops. Trap game is a trap
  3. I'm going off @MichaelMina_lab twitter thread a few days ago for the 98 percent, or I think he put it as 1 in 50 produce a false result. His whole deal is while that actually leads to many wrong results, if you're testing every day then those mistakes are rectified quickly and with great confidence. Pretty sure they have enough data at this point to make those calculations. Now I have no idea if that's the test Saban flunked and then passed, but the way it's being reported would indicate it was. Bottom line, there will still be games lost due to being extra cautious and that's fine.
  4. If those things are indeed 98 percent accurate, pretty likely Saban was a false negative considering no symptoms and no one around him seems to have tested positive (I doubt he and the AD spend a lot of time face-to-face). So a very good chance he leads the Tide out of the tunnel on Saturday night. This wouldn't help the local folk take the virus more seriously, to say the least.
  5. This was a bad week, but it looks like it will end with 93 percent of power-5 matchups being played on schedule (71 out of 76). That's nowhere near shutting everything down. I agree we'll have a point soon where some games are just canceled, maybe even having a minor effect on conference championships or even CFP selections. It will be sad but funny if for example the SEC decides to scrap LSU-Florida because they need to play Georgia-Florida on Dec. 12 instead.
  6. If we could just play BEFORE the test results come back, we'd be fine!
  7. Yeah, Iowa too. And it hasn't even gotten terribly cold yet. In a few weeks, I'll be posting "ZERO postponements in games involving Clemson or Alabama...the playoff is safe!"
  8. None of their teams are in Nashville or Waco so they have a decent chance of making it through. Still a shame my weekly note about P5 matchups is taking some hits.
  9. Weekly update...looks like we will wake up Sunday with 58 out of 60 matchups between two P5 teams in the books on schedule. "Isn't it cute" that we thought they could play college football this fall? "This is fine" cartoon; "See you in 2021"; etc. (I know, we probably shouldn't take a victory lap with like two months left to navigate...lots of people were certain this wouldn't get off the ground at all)
  10. Other than the details, this has been a pretty open secret for years. They have been to the Final Four and made other nice tournament runs, but this guy doesn't even get brought in for interviews at Power 5 programs. But WSU was so attached to the success they looked the other way.
  11. *Announces 75 new staff layoffs (not really...just the above pic is good example of what leads to that stuff)
  12. I agree but the testing wasn't the same in the beginning. It's a story of money, mostly. The other ppd game was Notre Dame at Wake Forest (UND outbreak)
  13. It's late Friday so time to update this stat. There are 16 games scheduled tomorrow between two Power 5 opponents. Assuming no last minute cancellations (pretty sure we have not seen a game called on less than 24 hours notice), that means by the end of Saturday night, 41 out of 43 matchups between two P5 teams will have been successfully played. (I know, I should probably start waiting til Sunday to update this)
  14. Disagree about national security crisis. Everyone home and abroad knows better decisions will be made without Trump being involved
  15. Who gives a shit what people are talking about, damn near 100 percent of voters know which way they're going. His path to victory is solely based on how much voter suppression or judicial fuckery they can get away with. The positive test likely saves us another agonizing debate and a bunch of stupid rallies televised live nationally. The down side being he will certainly use this to amplify his anti-mask, anti-testing, etc., thus making conditions even more dangerous for everyone.
  16. Notable that this thread had zero posts Sunday and Monday. I'm not gonna research this but there's a good chance the thread hasn't had two quiet days in 5+ months (if ever). I think that speaks to all conferences being committed for the fall, and also so much evidence that they are going to keep moving forward despite occasional lost games. Still, the question in the thread title will remain relevant until we get to selection day.
  17. Another "speaking of Florida" post... (Side note: some very nice scenery in here to distract you from the COVID-ing)
  18. Just to update what I posted last week, when talking only about games between two P5 teams: Already played: 8 of 9 scheduled (VT at UVa was ppd) This weekend: 17 of 18 appear to be on schedule (ND at Wake ppd) I know there is still time today for bad news, and around noon tomorrow tweets will start flying around like "OMG Vanderbilt has 27 players sitting out!". But if we wake up Sunday morning with 25 out of 27 power-5 matchups in the books, that's pretty far above a lot of people's expectations.
  19. USF statement doesn't say anyone caught COVID from Notre Dame, but implies that enough of their players were in close enough contact with ND players as to call off this (non-conference) game. Hopefully USF comes clean with its testing results over the next few days, it would be quite important to know if the virus can be transmitted during a game. Seems like yes but it hasn't been proven yet.
  20. OAN = Offense is Ass Now
  21. This is grasping at anything (like many of my posts in this thread) but after today the ACC will have successfully played 8 of their 9 scheduled conference games. The Big 12 and SEC get going with conference play next week so we'll see how that goes. But so far all the postponements besides Va Tech-UVA have involved at least one non-P5 school. Those were the ones we all knew would have trouble testing and bubbling. (I know a handful of the postponements were due to COVID at P5)
  22. November 25 (day before Thanksgiving) is the official start date
  23. Yah, I now regret lumping Wolken in with Mandel, Thamel, etc. when talking about the good journalists last week. I do think he's done some solid columns, for example one about the importance of daily testing which ultimately proved to be right on the money. But since then he's gone way out on this limb about the medical expertise of the B1G/Pac, apparently not noticing that they were aggressively trying to find medical solutions to play ASAP. Wish he would go back to just antagonizing red meat SEC types, he's good at that
  24. It seems extreme if the guy returns multiple negative tests within the 14 day period. Maybe that is extremely unlikely with the new, highly accurate tests. But is anyone saying "7 days to evaluate mytocarditis"? It went from being one of the main hurdles to something that just needs a week to check out?
  25. Since no one in the country played a good non-conference game, an 8-1 or 9-0 Big Ten champ absolutely deserves a spot. This just eliminates the American champ even if they're undefeated. Big 12 champ (ahem) better have zero losses to be safe in the argument vs. SEC #2. But I honestly think the committee will go even harder for conference champs only, considering what all the leagues had to go through just to get the season going. Also LOL another ethical dilemma for the AP poll...can we jump the B1G guys back in right away, or wait until they've actually taken the field?
