  1. I don't advocate moronically chanting a conference name but I do hope the other schools do well out of conference because that affects the seeding and perception of my school's teams. In men's basketball the non-conference performance of the schools in the SEC absolutely helped everyone when it came to NCAA tournament seeding and getting in.
  2. Cal and Stanford's academic rankings means absolutely nothing in the athletics world which is why they had to beg for a bargain basement offer in a conference on the other side of the country. And in athletics I mean football, football and football. The Big Ten supposedly cares a lot about academics but the reality is they accepted Nebraska (when they were relevant in football) and rejected Cal and Stanford so it's clear what actually matters.
  3. They need a break from the Minnesota-Maryland-Rutgers gauntlet.
  4. There was an ESPN story that detailed the hiring process and some of the Trustees and the Athletics Department weren't on the same page so it's likely a Trustee told her to stay away and that was overruled by management. The president of UNC publicly rebuked some of the Trustees for their actions during the hiring process and the internal battle is still going on.
  5. It's not unusual for a coach to have a young woman he's seeing but it is unusual for a university to be so desperate that they agree to let her have a role in the program. IF UNC had any self-respect they would tell Bill to keep his sugar baby away from the program. ESPN had an article about this hiring and it was a circus with some trustees and politicians trying to hire Bill without the Athletics Director knowing what they were doing.
  6. Hiring a 72 old coach that cares more about his pleasing his sugar baby than football will be an entertaining trainwreck for everyone to watch.
  7. So all of this is because of God instead of his greedy stupid father. Been a rough year for Los Angelos and I hope UCLA football has a good year despite this guy. Sports can be a refuge to forget about things for a while.
  8. Yes but if the AD had a lot of financial backers the University wouldn't have to bail them out.
  9. UCLA gave 30 million to their broke athletics department so I don't think they will be spending a lot on a mediocre quarterback.
  10. According to espn he was 35th in qbr so why did he get any raise. The future is paying guys that have proven they are good college quarterbacks like Ohio State and Indiana did. Curtis Rourke was third and Will Howard was seventh in qbr.
  11. I'm a UK fan and many other fans have lost perspective about that game. UK under Cal would have a couple of games a season where they look like the best team in college but most of the time it was a disorganized mess that could and did lose to anyone. UK will have a better SEC record and a better future. Look at the big wins Pope has with a team cobbled together in a short time frame.
  12. Bluegrass Airport for Lexington. UK lost the few decent players we had and return the same shitty coach so that game won't be competitive. It's a nice area but I'm biased since I grew up in Lexington.
  13. No one is going to travel a long way to watch UK's football team play. Basketball yes.
  14. UK fan here. UK has one decent player on offense (WR Dane Key) and the other starters are bad. UK's defense was solid for the first half of the year but with injuries and the incompetence of the offense I think they quit at the Florida game. UK's best DL Deone Walker sat out yesterday's game and I wouldn't be surprised if he sits out the final 2 games because why risk your draft status for a crap team that's going nowhere and a coach that quit before the season started. Texas winning 70-0 would help us get Stoops overpaid whiny fat ass out of here.
  15. There's 66 reasons UCLA has a lot of potential and 3 negatives.
  16. UCLA is a great large public university in a recruiting hotbed with great weather and a million things to do and you're comparing them to New Mexico State? Is this a joke? USC has all these pluses (except they're a huge private school) and that's why they have historically had one of the best programs. I don't see why UCLA can't be successful like USC.
  17. At the time he looked like a desperation hire and this press conference reinforces that. UCLA has the potential to be a top ten program and this is the best they can do?
  18. Florida State signed of their own free will and you don't get out of contracts because you don't think it's fair. It's understandable that the Big Ten and SEC aren't interested because if FSU will sue the ACC, they will sue the Big Ten and SEC and the last thing presidents want is to have ugly lawsuits that air out all the dirty laundry. As a secondary fan of an ACC school, FSU has acted terribly for a long time and that's why they were singled out. Any conference that has them as a member will regret it.
  19. Any list that has Iowa as more valuable than USC shouldn't be taken too seriously.
  20. I would advise against visiting Neyland Stadium unless you want to be around a bunch of rude obese cretins that should be thrown into an active volcano.
  21. TV executives are calling the shots now and they don't care about Stanford and Cal which is why they had to take a bad deal with the ACC. Several of the PAC presidents (notably the Arizona State president) demonstrated repeatedly that they are out of touch with reality which is the main reason their conference is gone.
  22. Cal's athletics department is in terrible financial shape and needs to cut a bunch of sports. Is the state going to fund all of the sports that they sponsor? I hate to see athletics siphoning money away from one of the world's great universities. Cal's value to the state and world isn't in athletics.
  23. My point is the Big Ten was doing well financially as a midwestern conference and they didn't have to become a national conference and add anyone. This is different from the Big 12 who had to add the best schools wherever they could to survive. USC's major problem has been USC and moving to conference on the other side of the country isn't going to fix that. I realize the SEC started this expansion stuff but we have at least stayed somewhat regional.
  24. The Big Ten didn't have to have this coast to coast monstrosity to survive. They're just really greedy so we have Rutgers playing at 11 at night.
  25. If ever there was a large public university that should have dropped football, it's Cal. What little success they had was achieved with cutting corners and they have a faculty that is openly hostile to football and students are indifferent. The other UC schools have shown you don't need major sports to have a great university.
