NOLA and Bloody Mary Bar were great. NOLA bartendress was gorgeous (and only a little racist) and bartender at Bloody Mary Bar was badass. Would have fucked up Tom Cruise in Cocktail.

Great pizza at La balmesina too

  2. Do we need to consolidate the Spain threads?

It’s a 10/10 weather day here today. I walked from my hotel in Gràcia to the Rambla all the way down to the big market La Boqueria. Holy shit is it fantastic. Go early because it gets crowded.

Then walked over to Cal Pep to meet my cousin for lunch. Thought it was good but not mind blowing. They open at 1 and we got there at 1:30 and got seated immediately, but they were already out of a couple of specials. Maybe those would have been better.

    Snack at La Boqueria:

  3. Work event today where Cognizant was supposed to bring the AM FW driver but she got sick and couldn’t come. They did have a rep there and I asked if Alonso was still sore about the testing duration. She said “Um, he’s ok? I’m not sure how much I can say…” The rest was the standard cars look good, drivers feel good, looking forward to the weekend stuff.

  4. I was in San Sebastian last year.  It’s beautiful.  I was there during San Fermin(running of the bulls) and it was quieter than I would expect for a coast town mid-July.  Much of the town basically closed down before 10pm. But I am not an expert.

San Sebastián is great. I’ve also done a Paradore at Santillana Del Mar that was very idyllic and quiet, and tapas in a wine cave (warehouse full of casks) in Santander. Bilbao is very city-like like Barcelona but the Guggenheim is impressive.

North coast of Spain is a fun trip. We got a rental car and drove all along the Basque region. Easy to recommend.
  5. Landed this morning at 8am local time and just finished a fantastic three hour dinner with colleagues. Restaurant recs are almost pointless, everything is kickass.

This was Cherie/Secret Tapas just off of Diagonal and Granados.

  6. I can’t stop thinking about how bad this was. Why was the tunnel to the lab secret? How did they get Annie’s body up that ladder? How did all the scientists get down the ladder so fast when Annie was wrecking shop? Why was a bunch of nerds’ reaction to a break in to murder the unarmed burglar?

  7. I love love love this movie. One of my favorite Cohen films. Clooney is in masterful comedic form and CZJ is at the top of her game, just stunning. So many great lines. I have a nine hour flight later today and was looking for something to watch, might have to throw this on the iPad.

    Super underrated.

  8. I’ve got an old phone laying around somewhere from the Cingular wireless days.

I worked there for its entire existence.

Fun morning: couldn’t get an Uber in downtown Dallas so I walked about a mile dragging a suitcase and laptop bag on the warmest day of the year to my meeting. Showed up 15 mins late sweating like a whore in church.

    Coverage came back around 11:15CT

  9. One half-assed pass with less than 30 seconds left and we’re going home down 1-nil.  The return leg won’t be easy; we’re going to see an entirely new level of shithousery and the lowest block in the history of football. Both of which we struggle to deal with.

    What is “lowest block”?
  10. Regardless of what they may have intended, I think the sum of what they put on film has to be that there are actual ghosts in Ennis.

Otherwise, you have at least four characters (Danvers, Navarro, Julia, and Rose) that are experiencing hallucinations, and somehow the rolling orange is common to all of them except Rose. Even that doesn’t explain how a hallucination of dead Travis would lead Rose to the frozen bodies of the scientists or how Navarro is having hallucinations of figures appearing behind her that only the viewer can see.

This also raises the question for me of what happened to Navarro at the end? We see her walking off into the frozen tundra, heading towards absolutely nothing, like she’s finally doing what she’s tried to do before and like her sister did. Then she shows up in the final shot in Danvers’ lake house. Is she alive there, or is it her ghost?

I honestly thought they were going to tie in some sort of toxin in the water that was making everyone go crazy. It’s the only thing I could come up with that would have explained any of it, and even that theory would have had issues.

Like someone else posted: the fact that they didn’t explain any of the other symptoms like fried corneas or burns is really shitty. On top of all the other shitty stiff.

This didn’t earn the TD name. Stolen valor.

  11. 4,2,1,3

The little liquor store by our airbnb this weekend had little bottles of Cimarron. Now I have a little bottle of Cimarron.

How did I fuck that up so bad?

    Ocho
    Cimarron
    Casamigos

    Never had 1940
  12. I used to really enjoy Casamigos Reposado. And I don’t begrudge anyone who likes it, drink what you like. But as as soon as I started drinking good additive-free stuff it ruined Casamigos and all the other vanilla-flavored tequilas for me.
