I mean if the core of your political argument is that people like you instinctively have idiotic political opinions, perhaps you shouldn’t share your idiotic political opinions.

Put another way, just because YOU are a bat shit crazy woman doesn’t mean WE all are…

wait, that might not go over here as well as it sounded in my head.

  2. Holy wow Batman. That’s idiotic. Men start wars, men kill people, men rape women, men kill pregnant women, men enslave men. We’d be better off if women were subjugated to men?

    holy fucking wow.

    No its even worse, cheerleaders.

My niece played travel club softball, and she has been married for about two years with a new baby, and is in a stable committed relationship. I believe your friend may be on to something. Having to compromise on team decisions, and work within that team provides a lot of maturity and growth.

When CHIEF Jr.'s girlfriend would get bent out of shape he would tell her, "you are just like a toddler throwing herself to the floor in a candy store, you are an embarrassment to be around." The beauty/crazy matrix is for real.

My 16 year old son is done with the ladies for now. He says they require waaaaaaay too much attention.

I’m going to tell him he needs to scope out the team sports girls that don’t have time for him.

What the fuck does “Ghost of Based Patrick Henry” even mean?  It that a band or a 3-D hologram based on the life of Patrick Henry?

what is happening to these people and where do they get these agendas?  It’s like Don, Jr. locked a half dozen Qanon leaders in a bathroom with a pound of blow and told them not to come out until they had finished it and could produce a two day Hilton conference about Satan and Child Molestation.

There is a long history of sanctification through comparing themselves to the evil in the world. The worse they become the worse the evil in the world has to be so they can be the light of the world.

its shocking, freighting, and disgusting.  It’s so bad.

the depth of lies and the degree to which they believe this shit is going to lead us down the brisket path and that’s not a bbq food tour.

  5. That’s radio. And on the public tv side I’ve been enjoying the hell out of Frontline from PBS the last few days.  The News Hour is pretty good historically I haven’t sat to watch it in a few years.  I watch BBC on TV more than PBS and admit to flipping through the majors when events happen. But damn the big three are lazy and are just on a 20 min news loop and talking heads. It’s so bad.

A lot of young women have become bossy and entitled. I know CHIEF Jr.'s last girlfriend was. One of his best friends just broke up with his fiancé', they had bought a house together. He said it was because of her uncompromising, her way or the highway approach to any disagreement. With divorce rates at 50% and young men loosing their house, kids, and half their retirement, they are reluctant to commit to such an arrangement. CHIEF Jr. and all of his well educated friends that are knocking down high five and low six figure incomes are looking to own their own houses, and getting prenups before getting married.

    CHIEF

Did those women you reference play team sports? I actually have a theory. It’s not mine, a retired successful woman who owned a killer company couldn’t figure out why her women employees were so bad then she decided to only hire those that played team sports growing up and it solved a lot of her problems.

Fucking Barr, man. He should still hang for lying to America about the findings in the Mueller report.

I saw a clip this morning of him on Fox News saying he’ll vote for Trump again. He said Trump is playing “Russian roulette,” (nice choice of words, you Russian-investigation-obfuscating piece of shit,) and that 4 more years of Biden would be “national suicide.”

Really, Bill? Suicide? Seems the country is doing okay. I recall the same sort of hysterical warnings coming from the GOP about an Obama presidency but we had 8 years of Obama/Biden and came out better than before. Have we forgotten Trump’s gross incompetence and mismanagement of the pandemic? Yeah, thanks for testifying that Trump lost the election and warning that a second Trump term would be a “horror show.” You’re still a traitor and a spineless coward who at the end of the day will choose party over country every time.

my (former) buddy listened to me while I explained what the Mueller report really said - this guy did really, really bad shit but while POTUS impeachment and conviction by the senate is the only remedy, and since ALL are entitled to a speedy trial, if I recommend prosecution after his term in office, he will essentially be denied that constitutional right, so I decline to so recommend.

I happen to think that is a bullshit take, his recommendation is not an indictment, but here we are.

I have a buddy who bought an astro turf business franchise where you buy the regional area, a few years ago.

He paid $900k a few years ago and now makes $6 million bucks a year. It's a business that is just him, his wife and his brother. Think: astro turfing peoples backyards who are sick of yard work, custom golf stuff like backyard putting greens (and even a par 3 single hole for rich people).

I think it's still early innings for that type of business-- especially if regulations ever happen that even come close to what you described...

we almost did this - install artificial turf instead of a lawn - we decided against it because it's really, really fucking hot on the feet in the summer and it's nasty chemicals in how that shit is made. add to that, I have no idea if any of it can leach out under the summer heat. but I'm sure it's a fantastic business right now. I bet there will be a lull if we get a year or two of historical average rain.

but I agree yards need to be reduced in size, our front yard is maybe 20x20 with the rest of the front desert style plants in beds (agave, drought tolerant grass, yucca, etc.). our back is a bit larger, but it's on top of septic which helps some.

hoping to run select sprinklers 40 mins or less per week, some even less, some once a month if at all.

Yep. Another system I used and liked, just not in the US, are underground cisterns for each house. The water is not potable and if the power goes out you have none unless you drop a bucket. Wonder if these could be installed in backyards here for just simple uses. Toilet and plants. They basically become a rainwater supported well.

not sure where here is, but generally yes, 100% they can. you do have another issue with connecting to house plumbing if it's not an original design to have potable and non-potable. while I don't advocate you drink out of the toilet, most houses (including ours which is dedicated rainwater only) do not have separate potable and non-potable supplies.

  12. the more this simulation goes on the more important it becomes to know what is (1) a purported fact, (2) purported evidence, (3) a conclusion, and (4) an opinion.

From there, you then have to do the work to evaluate the (1) quality of the purported evidence, (2) congruence of the purported evidence with the purported facts, (3) the strength of the connection of the conclusion given in light of the evidence and facts reviewed, and (4) the quality and merits of the opinion in light of the conclusion (assuming it's well supported by quality evidence supporting facts).  The stronger the evidence, the more evidence, the overlap of the evidence with the stated fact should lead to the logical conclusion. Then we evaluate the merits of the opinion which often explains what to do next, or what might the ramifications be under the circumstances.

Evidence strength depends on a number of factors - direct interviews with people who were there, testimony under oath, documents filed with courts, original source documents or videos, these are all prime examples of great evidence. a simple statement from someone that a fact is true is terrible evidence, and borders on a full collapse of fact, evidence and conclusion, even if one person states the purported fact, and another draws the conclusion and opines on it.

most on air live video news channels offer opinion at best or a feigned attempt at the full 1-4 process above because production of those programs is pretty inexpensive if you can focus on opinion. Often times opinion has its place, especially when facts are fairly well agreed upon and established (the collective can often times do this so 1-2 can be skipped). but at it's worst, 1-2 are skipped and we are left hearing conclusions and opinions only without agreed upon facts based on quality evidence.

in addition, plenty of people have an agenda and can promote their views through the appearances of journalism through online platforms. both of these phenomena have crippled us in terms of accessing "news".

the explosion of access to video streaming and the inexpensive cost of having a streaming channel makes it triply worse, very little evidence, facts stated and off to the races with bat shit crazy conclusions and opinions.

left leaning traditional outlets (print magazines and newspapers) are not immune from this degradation and collapsing of facts, evidence, conclusion and opinion. but the left leaning outlets have held on to the values of quality journalism for a lot, lot longer than many conservative outlets. Now, there are conservative outlets I'm sure that are of a like mind with regard to the quality of journalism even if ideologies are not shared. But I don't know many.

This NPR thing is an example of that, at least with respect to one person's view.

In the end though, news consumption and remaining a free person in that endeavor requires rigor, intelligence, evaluative skills, and independent thought and a willingness to dedicate yourself to get your news from a diverse set of outlets. you have to actively participate in the evaluation of evidence, its connection to the stated fact, the combined support of the conclusion and then the opinion (including the bias of the speaker).

I don't think many can do this.

Yeah, religious groups have an absolute first amendment right to do this just like all associations of citizens.  They can’t directly endorse candidates but they can argue all they want for changes in law of policy.

Whether they should or not is a theological debate. It is interesting that they didn’t get the memo that Ukraine is anti-Christian. But they do know what happened with the Baptists in Russia.

Yep, that has always been my experience. I helped my dad install the system you described for his gardens in New Mexico. Worked quite well.

keep the large organics out of the tank (probably with a simple screen) and use gravity or a pump and go. yes super simple.

I don't follow these accounts - Kinzinger reposted this. Might explain how things changed.

you won't really see me defend much about the evangelicals, but I don't have a problem with religious groups speaking with their first amendment rights about politics, especially when their position is not a violation of law or the constitution). even if you put a "stay in your lane" requirement, SBC has a humanitarian angle here too. while they can burn in hell for many of their positions, I still support their right to be in this arena speaking their mind. and on this one, I just so happen to not have to hold my nose at it.

One relatively inexpensive option is rain water collection for homes. Fuck lawns. We are not South Carolina or Kentucky. @troph you have a collection system correct?

Have seen a few very nice systems. Collection tanks with automatic drip systems for small lawn areas. Roots work folks.

I collect in buckets. Amazing how much water I can collect just off the back patio roof. I have heard this is illegal in some areas. My father's HOA does not allow it on homes.

Why? It is going to replenish, just at a different rate and reduces rapid run off from big rains.

rainwater collection starts very cheap and then gets stupid depending on how hidden, large and elegant you want your system to be.  I think gutters to large tanks enclosed by fencing is perfectly nice and then you can use gravity or a pump to push it out to the lawn. If it's drinking water the filtration isn't complicated but adds a few thousand. non-potable water? That can be super cheap.
