Remember when I told you about that system off Mexico? Yeah.
I was paying attention. I’ve also stopped wishing for tropical storms to fill the lakes. It fucking kills.

Now hearing their entire cabin is gone. What that means, I don’t know. Jesus.I can’t even. In July. Not a drop of rain is supposed to fall let alone a fucking life threatening flood. So ill. Ugh.

Wow. Smart folks. Put them in positions requiring critical decision making. Good for them. Wow.

Drinking now. Here’s a pic of homesick jr and myself escaping Harvey. We’re standing on a “mini-dam, on the river property where the two houses out of view are now no longer standing. If this picture was taken right now, we’d be an easy 18-22 feet under water. The entrance to Camp La Junta is literally about 500 yards behind us.
That can’t be you. All men posting on surly are fatasses.

Just makes me sick to my stomach. My kids have gone to La Junta and Longhorn over the years and I just cannot imagine what these families are going through.
You are prepared for a broken bone or an ear infection during camp but your child being swept away by floods in middle of night is just beyond the pale.
These poor kids.
In July too like that’s supposed to be impossible.

So San Saba flowing into Buchanan is flooding, N. Llano is flooding and that hits LBJ, the Guad is flooding and that goes into Canyon, and I suppose the Perd may exceed its banks too going into Travis (though maybe not).
I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed it this bad. So many rivers over their banks.
unbelievable.

Which means they never progress to seniors and you eventually run out. Doesn’t seem all that smart to me.
I think this is the existential threat of AI, not job losses per se. Companies, firms, management and schools and universities are going to have to actively solve for this issue in the long run.
Unless AI can fully replace the nuanced judgment of experts humans where subjectivity and circumstantial dependencies including human mood dictate outcomes, which I am quite suspicious can happen, then the risk really is the elimination of the path to experience for younger workers.

What is already becoming manifest is that AI dev tools like Cursor or Copilot are very useful in the hands of already senior engineers, who know when to call it on its BS. In my org, the senior devs who are using it basically have an incredibly fast junior dev at their disposal to help them get stuff done faster, which is all well and good. But when the human junior dev uses it in the same way, they implicitly trust the output from the AI junior dev and thus there are no guardrails preventing the blind from leading the blind. We just had a junior on my team send up code for review that while (thankfully) not completely wrong was done in such an over-engineered and complicated way that if it were to have been approved it would've been completely out of line with the best practices and general framework of our codebase. Do this enough times and best case scenario you have a terribly unwieldy, spaghetti codebase and at worst a ton of bugs making it to production.
This is exactly my experience on the legal side of things. I’m using it more and more in a discrete instance and the analysis and even the writing is solid. But I’ll spend an hour or more working with the AI tool like is a junior attorney basically making it probe its work. I certainly know where to start but I let AI formulate the approach to an argument and then I probe it for accuracy and improvement. Prompts like, please double check, are you sure, please quote the statute or case (I don’t cite cases so I have less risk there), please provide a link so I can verify, etc. then when it’s time for work product I ask it to write up the letter, memo, clause in a contract, and then I work on the language with it but it’s already writing at a high level when I use a prompt like please prepare a lawyer demand letter written in a style that is sophisticated and similar to what you would expect from the best law firms in the country. Out pops some pretty fantastic writing that I then edit to put my voice into it. As of right now I don’t see the need for a junior attorney and not even 3 months ago I was planning to hire someone, I still may but the calculus has changed.

What makes these people you know liberals since they don’t hold to much of a liberal worldview?
I was wondering the same thing, maybe better and expanded social programs for all, expanded Medicare, education, labor unions, higher taxes to pay for it, etc, etc, but latent racism, homophobia and transphobia.

Oh, and for those of you feeling some nostalgia, you need to read up on MAME. It can be a bit daunting to setup, but it might be worth your time.
You can have every game you could ever want on your PC or Mac
We have an arcade at home in our game room that we designed (a company made) and we assembled that has 3000 arcade games. It’s pretty rad. When the kids have friends over it gets used.

Last weekend, I had to take the girl child to the mall. We went to the food court, and she said they had opened a new arcade. I glance over, and it's full of redemption machines and whatnot. Looks pretty boring.
She wants to go over, so we stroll in, and I'm just underwhelmed. This isn't an arcade, by God. Foghat isn't playing cranked, there's no sketchy guys off in a corner, and no one has quarters lined up on the marquee of a game. Until I spot in a corner an Asteroids, Dig Dug, Robotron 2084 and some fighting game that I had no interest in.. Oh boy, now I found something.
The games don't take quarters, only a prepaid card you tap. She wants to "win" something so I buy her a $10 card, then buy myself one as well. The games I was interested in only used a dime credit per play. My goodness; 10 plays of Asteroids for a buck? The mind reels.
After what was probably less than 5 minutes, she came back. She had burned through her card trying to win something stupid, no doubt. I'm still on my first game of Asteroids. She says something like "you are pretty good at this". Well, I once was, but no one else is playing this fossil, so I'm going to quit with the high score. I play some Dig Dug and Robotron, and she was mesmerized with how many moving characters were on the screen at one time. I scored something like 78,000, but man, my 57 year old reflexes aren't what they once were.
After the game was over, I spent the rest of my credits on air hockey with her. To be honest, that was more fun.
Might not make her core memories but it will yours. Well written too. Copy and save that shit for posterity.

interesting radar track of Barry, thing disintegrated in northern Mexico, crossed the border and seemed to almost reorganize some. Kinda wicked.
