I walked right into that. I get the impression that the place I plan on docking my boat has high school/college kids running around pumping gas and whatnot looking to make some extra money. It also seems to be a busier place than a lot of marinas at Texas lakes. I’m basing that on a small sample size, so perhaps I am misinterpreting the situation, but it would seem to me that if I offered one of these kids a couple hundred bucks to do some menial labor I would probably find a taker. I also gashed my typing thumb yesterday, so I apologize for any typos, the bandage is fucking with my typing and I’m tired of mking corrections.
yeah at the lake marinas that's totally possible. cost us $20 to cover our boat for example.

DP with the 6D chess, eh? going undefeated the rest of the way. Win it all for DP!!!

Is there a pay as you go model? Or is it more economical to just go all in?
Depends on her matrix score (hot/crazy). Lando knows what’s best he’s not a noob.

Can’t you just pay someone at the marina todo the maintenance for you?
Yacht maintenance contract is on her list she’s just slow rolling it.

Oh, so it costs more to put in...and it costs more to maintain...and it’s higher maintenance? Yeah that sounds like what she’ll want. hahaha
Space for fresh flowers and champagne on a teak boat deck - duh.

The Sea Dek brand stuff or just that fake teak foam stuff in general? Mrs Landomatic is trying to convince me that all that fake teak foam stuff looks cheap (regardless of brand, color, etc) and is thinking we need to get it all done with real teak. I haven't priced any of it yet, but assuming the real teak is going to be stupid expensive comparatively (not to mention higher maintenance and all that crap), I'm hopeful there is a faux teak product on the market (probably Sea Dek brand) that doesn't?
I tried doing a walk around the docks with her, thinking some foam decking would jump out and look nice where she wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and real teak on some of the more expensive boats. Well, that backfired. She could spot the difference a mile away and most of the nicest boats had real teak.
You’ll need to let it gray or oil it at least 2x per year. It’s a beat down. I like weathered for home applications, but for whatever reason I like the oiled look for boats. The fake stuff will always have the color. I bet the cost to oil 2x a year is not insignificant, or a full weekend (or more) if you do it yourself. My teak was a swim platform and a small walk way, it took a half day to oil. Oiled teak looks far superior no doubt.

You found the ultimate hack!
I only mentioned that because who doesn’t like a cheap laugh? Actually I mention it because on occasion I get told I have nothing to add. I actually think I have a unique and valuable perspective because of it not not despite it.

Another WEN generator recommendation here. Honda and Yamaha might be slightly better (quieter, better fuel efficiency) but I like saving over 50%. If the WEN starts to fail, then I won’t have any issue buying a second/replacement.
the other bonus of the inverter generators is that you realize how you can take power on the go: tailgates, camping, etc. I wouldn’t want to stand next to it for long but they’re surprising quiet for a small engine.
Not having a small generator is a turn your man card in offense after this, especially given all the cool shit you can do with it. Keep it in the garage and throw it in the truck and take with you for all sorts of reasons.

Because Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and Chuck Berry.
I'd listen to the argument that, while heavily influenced, the Beatles and Stones had their own sound. But Elvis? He was just a good looking white kid doing his best to perform like Berry and sound like Roy Hamilton.
And that’s true.

Almost 30 posts in and no Beatles, Rolling Stones or Elvis...interesting.
I was going to go that direction. Decided to go more obscure. My first pick was straight up LHB the eyes just as a mic dropper. Then I remembered the LHB came on stage for a ghostland concert. Still one of the most wicked live acts ever. Wish I had been there for that one.

Scuba lessons in lake Travis scheduled... she nervously googled “are their alligators in lake Travis.” FML.

“I get the news I need from the weather report” that line by Simon & Garfunkel is my theme for this year. Trump gone, news cycle is boring thank god, all I need to pay attention to now is the weather report. Mental health better for sure but that’s more about that ignoramus finally being gone.

We're not fucking around any more. We're going the whole home generator route. We've kicked it around for a couple of years (mainly for hurricanes) but this last experience put us over the top. Kohler guy is coming over today to do a site survey.

Isn't it kind of cisgender biased to do these things any way
Fuck yeah it is, guy deserved it. Shoulda said “look!! we are assigning this one female at birth until or unless she I mean he I mean they tell us otherwise Yay!! Time for fireworks!!” Then the gender gods woulda smiled on that poor dad and he’d still be here with us.

Doesn’t have to be that way. They are killing their own resource. It’s so effing short sighted.

I don't know who has had a more troubled fall from grace, it's just one thing after another and I think it all started after his father died, no? he's just been a mess the last decade. sucks, he changed golf forever. he actually made it a unquestionable sport. it was always a game, but now it's professional sports and I think he gets 100% of that credit. redefined the game. that legacy will never be taken away from him - one of the all time greats, and changed the game forever.

Not disagreeing with you, and this is something we all already know and have experienced, but the expectation (by both men and women for the most part) is that men don't cry. The strong, silent type who doesn't complain is the ideal.
It's unfortunate that this is still the case as I work (been still masking up and working M-F since the pandemic started) and supervise a lot of people at my work and I see men who I can tell are just absolutely miserable with a shitload on their mind and when I try to gently (or in some cases, not so gently) inquire as to their emotional state, I typically get a rather unconvincing "I'm good." These are folks who still subscribe to the men don't cry stereotype but could really use some therapy to process what is going on in their lives...but I doubt any of them will actually pursue. So I try to be as helpful as I can by consistently leaving my office door open and will walk around and make sure my folks know I'm there if they want to talk about work, about their personal life, or just to vent.
I had a comment that I started then deleted that was on this line of thinking. obviously I'm waaaaaaay past the men don't cry obstacle. lulz. and frankly that has nothing to do with it. rather I have had plenty of conversations with girl friends (straight ones) who beg, wish, plead for their husbands to open up or to go to therapy or flat out just wished they picked a different guy due to the lack of emotional intelligence or availability. divorced women talk about it even more. I have no doubt that when young men are looking for a young woman the young women they want don't value a man who goes to therapy, but I can almost guarantee you that dynamic is gone by our mid-forties. Those silent alone, desperate men have silent, alone, desperate women at home wishing for emotional intimacy. in the end, once a guy proves he's strong enough in a modern world to take care of his family, the women stop bullshitting about the rest of the proxies for strength and they want connection and intimacy. not mealy-mouthed whimpy shit, but someone that can listen, empathize, not take shit personally and can talk about how he feels when it's needed, one who smiles, laughs, and has enough emotional intelligence to see when she's having a hard time and offers aid without any whiplash emotional bullshit coming back at her. and when a guy does that, it comes across as stable and emotionally strong. the thing those guys think isn't strength is strength, and muscling through ends up being weak. funny how things change. anyway, that's my ramble about what women want. take it or leave it. but I dunno, I think I have an interesting perspective.

Having someone on whom you can dump emotions in a protected environment is so valuable. Often just the physical act of verbalizing things takes some of the power out of "issues". For some reason, hearing ourselves say something instead of it just bouncing in our rattle-can brain is therapeutic in and of itself.
One bit of advice I wish I had....if/when you go...be gut level honest. Nothing is worse than paying someone for the privilege of lying to them. Ask me how I know......
Alcoholics and addicts are notorious for this as our disease wants to protect itself from the truth, but even non-alcoholics/addicts have a propensity to do it. Don't hold back. Say what you feel and let sunlight be a disinfectant for your mind. Pride kept me miserable for many years and cost me a fortune in wasted counseling.
some things should never be said to the person we want to say them to. it's a small part of us, probably hurt, afraid, triggered, etc. that feels that. the adult version of us gets it. but some times that unreasonable part needs to be heard so we can resume adult like behavior. and the other thing is some shit that we get triggered by is so heavy with old crap, the only person who can reasonably be expected to be able to really listen and help that wounded feral mongoose of a part of us is a paid professional. and you know what? that isn't bad. That protects the people we love, including ourselves. I have a one sided emotionally intimate relationship with my therapist. and thankfully we both like it that way. it's perfect.

I was brought up in an environment where commercial fisherpeople were demonized for obliterating the fishery. Lots of latent racism too, because many of them were from southeast Asia.
They were just trying to eke out an honest living.
Conservation has come a long way in 40 years, even factoring in exponentially increased fishing pressure.well, we have to eat, they have to make a living, and I have to have my hobby. we have to sustain the planet. I've always thought the intersection of lefties and sportsmen (not a complete overlap but a lot) is interesting and I think there's an overlap for capitalists and conservationists too - the economy and the food industry needs to have its place, but they can't destroy the fish population that feeds them. the better we leave the planet today, the better it will be tomorrow. there really is so much capitalists, environmentalists, sportsmen and commercial fishermen can agree on when it comes to fisheries. It's kind of shocking (not really) how we get in our own way on this stuff.

That can't be more than a 30 footer (boat). That'll get tossed around like a cork. Displacement is key in that kind of stuff.
he basically admits he's an idoit (probably an oklahoma freakshow) but that the need for adrenaline got the best of him. the camera can't do the storm justice. you really have to pay attention to the waves and how high they are and really focus on the boat movement. if you just casually watch it, it's like yeah that's bad. if you focus on it, damn the guy should be dead and his boat should be at the bottom of the north sea.

shit man I dunno. it's 4-5 steps over what 100 sq ft? probably a few hundred bucks each time? assuming the marina would let you do a side deal. the marina might do it for you with the same kids, probably $350-500? I dunno. you do have the boat owner tax plus the big boat owner tax.
