New book in John Scalzi's Old Man's War series.  I really loved the first 6, hoping this one holds up.

Just started this last night after finishing up Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 7 (audiobook).  I'm listening to this, but I may have to switch to reading.  I'm about 20% in, story is interesting and drops in lots of little refreshers, without being a slog, since it's been about a decade since the last book.  However, the narrator is driving me nuts.  She's way too chipper and while her voicing the main character is fine, the way she is voicing all the male charaters is less than optimal.

Just finished the Prince of Nothing trilogy based on the recommendation from this thread.

That ending was bullshit. Everyone who recommended it can kiss my ass.

Starting Hyperion based on a friends recommendation. Was at his place for a party Friday and saw he had them.  He read them as they came out and said they held up.  Canterbury Tales set in space.

Forget that. Give me The Player of Games.

Well it wouldn’t make sense to do the second book first.

I’ve looked at those a million times and never read them. Let us know how they hold up.

I disagree.

Sure, if they were doing the Mars Trilogy, they couldn’t start with Green Mars of Blue Mars (I’d kill to see that series made).

But in the Culture books, you’re not following the same characters through multiple books, and The Culture itself doesn’t change in a way that you have the follow the publication order. Maybe you wouldn’t start with a later book like Excession that has more complex interaction among the minds, but any of the first few could work as the first storyline for a TV series.

Look to Windward would be my vote. Love that one.
